Nickofsuburbia Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I've never understood the point of these "least favorite" threads. well were not gonna sit by green day and say theyre the shit if they turn into a rap group are we we can criticize our band if we do it with good reason and in other news... LOTAG because it was just bad marketing EJN needed to be a proper single with radio play and all and Last Ride In because theres no vocals haha
lastnightonGDA Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 East Jesus Nowhere was a single. wow, this shows just how much I followed everything 21st century breakdown.
Hermione Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Was Macy's Day Parade a single? If so that. Also I demand a pole! wow, this shows just how much I followed everything 21st century breakdown. Just shows what a TERRIBLE job they made of releasing it as a single more like . They didn't make a proper video for it and released it as quietly as possible at the same time as 21st Century Breakdown. They should've taken the world by storm with it but instead they swept it under the rug, and from then onwards they only promoted the musical and songs from the musical. I guess it came out just as they decided to abandon the album in favour of the musical so they didn't want a non-musical song taking attention away from it. Can't think why else they'd throw such an amazing song down the drain like that!

Hermione Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 ^ It is indeed BTW if anyone's wondering why they released LOTAG as a single here's the answer: Because LOTAG is in the musical. Simple as
Guest EDIT Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Know Your Enemy! Way to repetitious. Do you know your enemy, do you know your enemy, well got to know your enemy woah! and Jesus of Suburbia I personally should have been divided into separate songs because it's hard to listen to one song for 9 minutes, even if it is awesome. I never really liked East Jesus Nowhere, but American Eulogy should have been a single for sure!
DropkickGina Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Know Your Enemy Too repetitive as has been stated already and was therefore (in my opinion) not a good preview of what was to come on the album. Thankfully, I was blown away by it when I did finally hear the entire thing.
Beathe. Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Last of the American Girls. It's my least favorite song from 21st Century Breakdown.
Hermione Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 I don't understand how anyone could say BOBD and not 21 Guns . I get that not everyone's into the slower songs so either of them might be quite low down on someone's list, but BOBD is a thousand times better than 21 Guns. The idea of preferring 21 Guns is unfathomable to me. Hang on was 21 Guns feat. the AI musical cast a single? If so then that's my least favourite single by a million miles, the only one I actually dislike rather than just not liking it as much as the others. And I'd forgotten The Saints Are Coming! That would be in second place.
sampy Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Last Of The American Girls. For me, this song have always been little bit bland. And as a single, it was really boring choice. so much KYE hate. I was glad it was their first single off of 21st CB. Me too! I love that song and I think it was a great single. Sometimes I feel like there's no one else than me who really likes this song
pasalaska Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Brain Stew. just bleugh. least favourite Green Day song. Jaded, however, is awesome, so I can put up with Brain Stew so long as Jaded is played right after it.
Nova-Caine Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Was Macy's Day Parade a single? If so that. Also I demand a pole! Can't think why else they'd throw such an amazing song down the drain like that! *Smacks hard* Macy's is in my top 3 songs haha I agree with everything you say about how the whole mess that surrounded the singles release and promotion, it was half hearted and Warner have shown no interest in Green Day with the last Album, I also think its time to step away from Warner and tell them to fuck awf!!! LOTAG is a weak song, yeah its catchy but not single material, whoever chose that should have been taken out side and flogged hard!
clairex Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 BOBD - mainly because it was played to death on the TV & Radio.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 21 Guns or Wake Me Up When September Ends, 21 Guns because it's a shit song and Wake Me Up because the video was terrible (21 Guns one was worse actually) the song doesn't represent the album at all, and in fact only recently I figured out how well Letterbomb flows into Homecoming. And there were already 3 singles out by this point and Warner were just milking it for all its worth. Other than that, Warning I just think is a bit dull but I can see why they released it, as the title track.
Boston Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Every single from 21CB. As much as I sincerely despise 21 Guns (unless its the musical version), I think I'd have to say Last of the American Girls because it really made no sense. Nobody ever really picked up on it, and I feel like a different selection (East Jesus Nowhere, The Static Age, or Horseshoes and Handgrenades) would have been recieved better and maybe would have lead to a different outcome for the album's popularity amongst fans and others. Me too! I love that song and I think it was a great single. Sometimes I feel like there's no one else than me who really likes this song. I like KYE as well (especially in the musical), but the first single probably should have been 21st Century Breakdown since it was the title track, if it was even given a single at all. I really can't decide whether all of the songs were awkward to choose as singles or whether the album promoters were terrible at their jobs. I think it was a little bit of both.
Nzap Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Redundant. Don't really like the song. But maybe it was a good single choice with all the loving lyrics, I don't know. Still can't figure out why Castaway wasn't a single, would've been perfect I think.
littlegirl-of-suburbia Posted March 14, 2011 Posted March 14, 2011 Last in ride is really shitty (in my opinion) but thank god it's not a single.... I like LOTAG but maybe it wasn't a good choice as it got most of you other GDCers mad... But the single i dislike (i can't hate a GD song) the most is 21 guns, I think that I've heard it way too much now... Brain Stew. just bleugh. least favourite Green Day song. Jaded, however, is awesome, so I can put up with Brain Stew so long as Jaded is played right after it. For me it's the oppisite i love Brain stew but not Jaded... Maybe Brain Stew is one of those songs that you have to be in the right mood to listen to...
solongfromthestars Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I love 21 Guns I didn't like it in the beginning, but ever since I saw it live I've really liked it. I thought the video was great as well and that it really represented the song's place in the album, but that's just me, haha. It wasn't a great choice for a single, though. Probably BOBD for my least favourite. I don't detest it but I don't love it either, there's GD songs I'd much rather listen to. I preferred the musical version to the studio version. It was a good choice for a single though, even though I don't really like it. I don't mind LOTAG but I thought it was an awful choice for a single. I love that song and I think it was a great single. Sometimes I feel like there's no one else than me who really likes this song Me too, haha
james.england121 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Last of the American Girls - by a long way. I think 21 Guns got a bit ruined also, good song, just overplayed.
Smoothed Out Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 Either LOTAG or Redundant...the first one's reasoning is pretty obvious to say the least, as for the second choice I'm not sure why, I just didn't like it as much as other songs that could have been singles
yourmumgoestocollege Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 KNow your enemy. I got took the piss out of school so much for liking Green Day because of that song. Half of my school would be saying this to me. "Steven" i would reply yes "Do you know your enemy". Simply a shit song and thats coming from a green day fan. I know its meant to stick the meaning of knowing your enemy of what not but comon.
