Boston Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 And I agree, it would be a great song live. I think it would've been better than the Static Age. Me too! I always wondered why they played The Static Age, and then ¡Viva La Gloria!, but never HAHG.
Boston Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I disagree. Lots of album openers aren't exactly great show openers, and lots of mid-album songs work great as show openers. Considering the nature of 21CB, though, I could see how playing the title track anywhere other than the first slot on this tour would've been weird. On future tours, though, if their next album doesn't have a great show opener on it, I'd definitely nominate H&H for the job. Truth. After I posted that, I thought about how Warning would suck to open a show with.
GreenRanger Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I think as an opener it would be a nice surprise. It's a really punch-you-in-the-teeth kind of song so I think it would have worked pretty well to use it...not all the time though. Of course, it would probably have an excellent impact as their encore opener, especially since that's very much the purpose it serves on the album - opening up the final act of the show.
Lena549 Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I love H&H and I'd really like to hear it live! It makes me want to jump around and destroy things because of this pump-ass feeling, it's just a perfect song to listen to when I'm angry. favorite lines: I'm not fucking around I think I'm coming out I'm a hater, a traitor In a pair of Chuck Taylors I'm not fucking around G-L-O-R-I-A I wrote ''G-L-O-R-I-A'' on my Converse and my friends kept asking me: Who is Gloria? Did you write that because the hippo in the movie Madagascar is called Gloia? And I was like: Errmm.... Noo?!
M3G4N Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 H&H kind of faded into the background for me when I first started listening to 21CB, to be honest. Not that I didn't like it, but it just didn't stand out for some reason right away. But I started listening to it more and more, and it's definitely one of my favorites on the album now. I love the raw energy and anger of it, and the riff is damn catchy.
alaniluau Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I vividly remember racing home from school and listening to the new album in its entirety on that MTV leak. At that point in time, I was still adjusting to punk music after falling in love with Green Day a few months previously. When this song entered my ears for the first time, my initial reaction was "Ouch, this is too loud and rough". Then I turned around to look at my mom, who grew up listening to the Clash, Black Flag, and what not, and she was like, "This is the best song I've heard in years!" Over time, I came to love the loud guitars and intense vocals that H&H offers. It's simply an anthem.

insomniaticnimrod Posted March 15, 2011 Posted March 15, 2011 I'm a hater, a traitor In a pair of Chuck Taylors love it
Lindsey Love Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I absolutley adore this song. It's angry and beautiful at the same time. The whole "Horseshoes and Handgrenades" concept is a really interesting subject for a song. I give it a 10/10... actually... 12/10
Doris The Spider Posted March 16, 2011 Posted March 16, 2011 I LOVE THIS SONG. It is my favorite off that album. It was even my ringtone for awhile. It's just so much fun to rock out too!
segaloco Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 This song is quite fun to play, helps relieve a lot of stress
Hermione Posted March 17, 2011 Posted March 17, 2011 It's the most badass Green Day song ever! I loved it from the moment I saw the lyrics, and the way they're sung makes it even better. Of all the just-vocal tracks from Rockband this is the best one to listen to, every single word is spitting with anger and attitude. My favourite lyric is "I'm a hater, a traitor in a pair of Chuck Tailors right now" too, it's just so cool The music is equally badass, it sounds a lot like Main Offender by The Hives, and Stop Drop And Roll, and that's definitely a good thing. It's a great rock n roll sounding song. Another part I love is when it goes "contradictioooooooooooon hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha!" and then the awesome guitar afterwards, I really like the effects they used on the vocals to make that evil laugh. No wonder it's my favourite album when there's TWO different songs containing fabulous evil laughs. I absolutley adore this song. It's angry and beautiful at the same time. The whole "Horseshoes and Handgrenades" concept is a really interesting subject for a song. I give it a 10/10... actually... 12/10 Angry and beautiful at the same time is such a great way to put it! Instead of the contrast between lyrics and music that so many Green Day songs have (with dark, angry lyrics and catchy music), in this one there's beauty and anger in both the lyrics and music. The lyrics are dark and delivered with so much anger, but it's with an aesthetically pleasing choice of words. And the music is crisp and on point, delivered perfectly, but it also sounds just as raw and angry as the lyrics. It all comes together to be totally angry and totally beautiful in a really direct way.

When are you going to get out of my brain, Hermione?!?!?!?!?!?!
Hermione Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Wow! Yeah. You've really done a great job of expressing MY thoughts about this song. When are you going to get out of my brain, Hermione?!?!?!?!?!?! Well of course the first thing I saw when I came in this thread was that you already had my favourite line picked out! So maybe you should get out of MY brain first
GreenRanger Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 Yknow, I'm not sure I ever saw the anger in this song as much as I saw a badass having a good time. I tend to have weird interpetations of songs that form a story, but my first idea of this song was that Christian had, at some point, joined this band of harcore anarchists or punks or whatever, and this was sort of his initiation, sung by the group's leader. I thought the G-L-O-R-I-A at the end was either Christian wishing he had Gloria back or the leader guy mocking him for sticking so close to her for so long. I always thought it was more...swagger, I guess, than anger. The instrumentals made the song too upbeat or jumpy or something for me to interpret the tone as angry. I knew that if Billie did this one live, he was going to have a hell of a good time with it. It just seemed fun to me. That's my real two bits.
letterbomb_19 Posted March 18, 2011 Posted March 18, 2011 it´s my favorite song from 21st CB!!! for me, it sounds like a song from Insomniac.. angry, fast, loud. I just adore Horseshoes & Handgrenades!!! btw: I would like to hear a cencored version of this song
GreenRanger Posted March 19, 2011 Posted March 19, 2011 btw: I would like to hear a cencored version of this song

raven052 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 I'm sure everything I'm about to say has been said/said better by everyone else (I've had a look at the other posts and I'm pretty convinced this is the case), but... I LOVE THIS SONG! First time I listened to 21st Century Breakdown, this was one of the (admittedly many) standouts for me. Love the way it grabs you and just doesn't let go. It's always one of the ones I skip to if I don't have time to listen to the whole album. And I know it's the line everyone's been talking about, but it's just gotta be "I'm not fucking around", simple, to the point, and just... Says it perfectly, right? Erm... I had a whole load of other points, but they're escaping me now.... Great song, and it demands to be played loud, doesn't it?
bollard_11 Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 Love this song!!! One of my favourite from 21CB!!!
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 20, 2011 Posted March 20, 2011 It's a great song, but it doesn't really interest me. It's a good listen for sure and the lyrics are kick-ass, but it just doesn't grab me. Kind of a shame, because I can definitely see how it's great. When I am in the mood for it, I'll really like it, but on other occasions it's just like "oh nice song" and that's it.
