Accede to Hannah, I love the way that Billie Joe howls, screams throughout the song.

Nowadays, if I listen to this song, I have a feeling that is like a FBHT song. I could imagine as Rev. screams this on stage! :)

This song was never one of my top favourites of off 21CB, but that doesn't mean I don't love it, it's the best song to listen to when you're just really pissed off. Also, I really love the energy in the song, it makes you wanna, like, jump around or something, idk. The song doesn't have that much of a deep meaning to it initially, it's just a regular Green Day fuck you kind of song.

That being said, however, it does fit nicely into the Christian/Gloria storyline. It's right after Viva La Gloria? and Restless Heart Syndrome - in which Gloria has fallen from grace, so to speak, in Christian's eyes. I think this song is Christian's reaction to that, in a way. Like if you listen to the first Viva La Gloria and LNOE and songs like that, Christian almost worships Gloria and really loves her for who she is. Also, I think Gloria is kind of the one steering Christian away from all the "bad" that's in him. And then whatever Gloria did (get addicted or whatever it was) made Christian really angry at her, and this song is the expression of that. I hope that makes sense.

Oh, and I love the screaming in this song, especially the G-L-O-R-I-A part. M

My favourite lines are "I'm not fucking around!" or "I'm a hater, a traitor in a pair of Chuck Taylors."

love this song, i think the lyrics are really clever.

I was in a shop with my Ipod and the guy was letting me test out speakers and he liked Green Day so made me pick a song and Horseshoes & Handgrenades was the first one it came onto and the guy turned up the volume so "IM NOT FUCKING AROUND" blared around the shop.. was fun

To be honest, I didn't really like the song when I first heard it. But now it's one of my favourite songs off 21st Century breakdown. It's such a powerful song, I always liten to it when I can't wake up in the morning. :P

The lyrics are quite amazing. My favourite line is, "Maybe you're the runner up but the first one to lose the race" because it's so true.

Oh, and the first collab video. It was amazing.

I'm not fuckin' around!!

And the best line has to be 'maybe you're the runner up, but the first one to lose the race'. so pessimistic

This was the first song on 21st Century Breakdown that I instantly loved. The lyrics, and the way Billie sings it just makes it really awesome.

My favorite is this:

Demolition, self-destruction

What to annihilate

The age-old contradiction

Demolition, self-destruction

What to annihilate

The old age

it makes me want to destroy things :D

Great song, even if the copy editor in me hates how they combined hand grenades into one word . Don't we all get a great pleasure out of screaming I'M NOT FUCKING AROUND at the top of our lungs?

I remember the first time I heard 21CB, and this came on after Restless Heart Syndrome.

it blew my mind.

I'M NOT FUCKING AROUND

badass.

First off, I think that Billie averages about 5 "ya knows" per minute.

Secondly, FYEAH HORSESHOES AND HANDGRENADES. This is absolutely my favorite song from 21CB. Although the title track was a great, obvious, and necessary choice to open up the 21CB shows, I always thought that this song would be a kickass opener. Its got so much raw energy; great song to work out to as well.

I think if they weren't doing stadium and arena shows, H&H would be a cool opener. If it was in a smaller punk venue it would rock! But 21stCB is a better opener for the type of venues they play, its more grande and it has the energy and reach that they need to reel in such a big crowd so early.

I like listening to horseshoes and handgrenades because it's really kick ass song...

I just think it's strange that Billie doesn't like it so much...

I find that it really shows a different side of Gloria (even though last of the american girls...) and of the resiting side.

In the song we understand that Gloria is going to fight until the end and will not take no for an answer....

It makes her a stronger character

DEMOLITION

SELF DESTRUCTION

WANT TO ANNIHILATE THIS AGE OLD CONTRADICTIOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

I wish I could do more than just blurt random lyrics but this song just speaks for itself :D

Yeah thats something thats also stuck in my mind. I remember, that I was totally blown away by RHS, but its still this kinda slower and (at least i nthe beginning) calmer song and then BAM! Horseshoes and Handgrenades with all it's aggresion blasts out!

That, plus there's no other place to play the opening track than at the opening of a show.

One of the songs on the album that didn't strike a chord with me instantly, but now I love it. It sounds so.. old-school Green Day in a sense. The part that's like "Demolition, self-destruction

What to annihilate, the age-old contradiction" sounds really Insomniac-like to me, but that's just my opinion :) This song is one of the ones on 21CB that just kicks ass and rocks out right off the bat. Not my favorite on the album, but I still love it.

Song is a throwback to their roots for sure. It's really bad ass.

NO IDEA why they don't play it live.

Gonna go print the lyrics and sing along RIGHT NOW!! :P

I counted the yknows during his TimesTalk interview, and I think that was about right.

And I agree, it would be a great song live. I think it would've been better than the Static Age.
