I dunno I'd say he had the most 'abnormal' childhood. Mike and Billie's parents split up/passed away but other than that they had a pretty normal lower middle-class childhood. Tre lived in the mountains without light, heat, electricity or windows. He went to some hippie school, his nearest neighbour lived about a mile away and his dad has post traumatic stress disorder.

He is very private do, if you look at something like Riding In Vans With Boys, aside from on stage Tre only shows up once or twice messing around in the background and Mike and Billie are around the camera a lot.

Yeah all thats pretty true. And it reminds me, gotta watch Riding in Vans With Boys again!

I don't think they used it for the North American shows either. I guess for South America they cut down on stage equipment to carry around because they needed to fly everywhere, they didn't bring the LED screens either.

they didn't use it for North America.

I'm pretty sure that was to do with the venues they were playing - most of them were amphietheatres with only a tiny pit or no pit at all. Denver and Irvine, for example, had pits theat were only about 300 people.

I think it's an anti-anxiety drug.

Yep, correct spelling is actually "xanax", it's a mild tranquilizer. Billie's misspelling of it is deliberate, as is his turning it from a noun into a verb -- he's basically describing using alcohol to take the edge off his worries about the future as Adie is enroute to him.

Interesting, thanks!

Is that no heat electricity light thing actually true? I thought that was exaggerated... yes, it was a very simple mountain shack thing, but I'd heard that they did have heat and electricity and stuff...

I don't know, it's come up a few times and there's a bit about it in Nobody Likes You;

"Willitis is a little town not far from my ranch," Winston Smith says. "There's no electricity, no running water. Just kerosene lamps. Tre definitely grew up in that situation."

I remember reading some article on GDA where Tre was saying his house didn't have windows and he had just gotten health insurance for the first time, so I guess it's true..

Oh okay, then it's probably true.

I'm no expert on sound production, but it means they took the recording of his vocals and made it more polished, a cleaner sound, getting rid of any imperfections. Compare his vocals on 21stCB to the early stuff and you'll hear its much cleaner and direct. Don't know if that makes any sense!

Over-produced just means that they mess with the vocals a bit. So, instead of just recording Billie's vocals straight from the mic and leaving them as is, they'll digitally mess with them before they put it with the rest of the track. Over-produced songs come off as a bit un-natural.

Oh ok. I kind of figured it was something like that, but I wasn't sure. Thanks! :)

He can't be terribly private... after all he was walking around naked in BIAB ;):shifty:

I've actually got a question for a change, though I'm not sure if anyone except GD's management can answer it.

Does anyone know why Green Day changed their official merch store from Cinder Block (who they'd been with for years) to Bravado when 21CB was released?

It's kinda annoying that they did that, because Cinder Block had some great pre-AI merch that is now not available, as well as some great AI merch like the shoes, and the Network's offical store, which has also shut.

Good question! They also did the Foxboro merch store.

thanks! and oh yeah, forgot about them.

It's annoying having to scour the interwebs for Network/Tubbies stuff now. I managed to find some good stuff on eBay but it's still a bummer.

Maybe Cinderblock wanted too much money or something?

hmm...

I just wonder what happened to all the leftover CB stock. I hope it didnt just get dumped or anything, because they can't have completely sold everything CB had in stock.

You would think they'd still allow them to sell all their remaining stock, or somehow transfer it all over to Bravado.

There was one eBay user that recently had a load of official CB merch for GD/Tubbies/Network/Idiot Club in all different sizes, and it was a charity based user. Makes me wonder if the stock was given away...

Wahh I didn't even know official Network merch exists, and also not that there was Foxboro merch on the internet, thought they only sold that at their (tubbies') gigs or something... :o

I'd love a Tubbies hoodie.

offtopic but I never know how to call FHT. Tubbies, Foxies, Foxtubs, Foxboro, full name which is too long... too many options :runaround:

I wish the online store of the Network and the Foxies worked again, and the Green Day one also had pre-AI merch in there.. oh well. Maybe later.

No his parents aren't divorced, Tre just doesn't talk about his family much although here was an interview back during AI where he was saying that his mom started crying when he played her the WMUWSE video, so she's definitely still around anyway. His dad gets mentioned more because he was involved in early tours, but his mother wasn't as far as I know. I'd say Tre's the most private out of the band.

I once read that Tré said "my mom learned on google that she was dead"

I'd like to know why they didn't use the catwalk for the South American Tour.

I think it was because our venues were smaller than... I don't know, Milton Keynes?

I think we had the LED screens in Chile, I guess that comes with the venue

It is impossible to use catwalks in amphitheaters since the pits are very small and most of the space is full of seats. Breaking them away can't be a solution, so no catwalk there.

It would have been possible for South America though, but I don't know why they haven't done it. The explanation they had to cut down the stage equipment makes sense though. I just watched some videos again, they didn't use the LED screens, just some banners.

But maybe there were some other reasons we can only guess about. It all depends on the venues in some way...

Posted

Maybe it was too much of a hassle to haul all the extra stuff with them, especially considering they had to fly everywhere and/because the distances between the shows were very big. They didn't bring the screens to most Asian shows either, and also not New Zealand.

Ok, i was wondering.. what will be the next green day song that will become a video clip and if Green Day will actually make another video clip?

I think Green Day are done making music videos for 21st Century Breakdown. They may release a video from the live album to promote it.

I just had a few questions about Green Day's album artwork. The first one is who made the cover art for Dookie? And the second is, is the artist who made the artwork for American Idiot the same guy who made the artwork for 21st Century Breakdown?

Dookie's cover art was done by Richie Bucher

and yes, Chris Bilheimer did artwork for both AI and 21CB

Chris Bilheimer actually has been working with the band since Nimrod I think. I know he did artwork for Nimrod, ISH, Warning, Shenanigans, AI and 21CB.
