This is right. They met 1990 and had an on/off long distance relationship but then that fizzled out and they both started seeing other people. Then in 1994 they decided to get together so Adie moved to California to give the relationship a go and they ended up getting married soon after. About being whiny, I'd be surprised if he said that quote now but when he was younger he was whinier (like most people are). Plenty of equally whiny things said by him in old interviews. It doesn't have to be her name. The person the song was inspired by was called Amanda but as far as the story of the album goes it's still a character called Whatsername. Just like how the Jesus Of Suburbia/St Jimmy character and the songs they're in were inspired by someone called Billie Joe . They're still Whatsername and JOS even if we know people called Amanda and Billie (and probably other people too) inspired them. well and here we fall in the mistake that the girl in JOS is Whatsername(Amanda) cause in the thread of opera she appears before...when Jimmy 'Leave home' well burt the interview in the book what is dated?

Otherwise it's either a sign of disrespect, especially if it's flown upside-down below another flag or a political statement, that statement being either fuck the US, or saying that the US is in "distress". I'm not sure exactly what's meant by Billie's shirt, since he says he's not an Anarchist and he's very much not a hippy. It'd help if I knew when the picture was taken.

They've played with the American flag before - there's photos of them spray-painting 'Idiot' over the flag that were done for a magazine (I'm thinking Q in 2005). It's to go with the whole American Idiot thing, saying the flag doesn't represent them if it's a symbol of all the things they're protesting against in the album; the disenfranchised feeling.

But yes, this is a Network song or demo according to John. Well, not really a song, I think at the time some of us thought it could've been made for background music on the Disease is Punishment DVD.

I found the thread and was surprised we posted about this two years ago! John kept saying "I've got unreleased Network songs/Green Day songs/news about HLAHG!" Now look what we got in the end.. Those shows were fun though, especially when more GDCers were active in the thread for it.
