What does that "DWK" tattoo on Billie's back stand for?

From what I know it stands for Dookie. :)

no it means "Death Wish Kids"

here's an explanation: http://gimmesomethingbetter.com/excerpts/dwk-u-s-thugs

According to my Know Your Enemy single, all 3 tracks (KYE, LO, HC) are "Words by Billie Joe. Music by Green Day." So I'd say Billie wrote it, not Mike :)

I heard that they both wrote it together

Who wrote Hearts Collide? I just assumed it was Billie but I've seen a few things recently saying it was Mike.

In this video Mike and Tre are asked if any of their songs are on 21CB and they say Hearts Collide was a good collaboration so I guess they all wrote it. (It's the first question btw)

Didn't Billie tweet in response to a question about the DWK tattoo that it stands for "deadly white kung fu"? Or was that a joke and I'm missing something?

Thanks for the answers about Hearts Collide, cool that they wrote it together!

He did indeed https://twitter.com/...967005218471936

^ Woop sorry, Florence beat me on time

^Wasn't that a joke though?

His tweet was definitely a joke, the Death Wish Kids thing is correct. I think joking about what it stands for is kind of a "thing".

i think it was a joke, cos i've read that whole article ( http://gimmesomethingbetter.com/excerpts/dwk-u-s-thugs ) and it seems like that's where he got the tattoo...and since we know that BJ likes to joke and deadly white kung fu sounds like a joke to me i assume it was just a joke ;)

yup that was a joke :D

I think maybe he made that joke cause he doesn't stand behind the real meaning of it anymore, I don't know, and cause it's a permanent tattoo he just had to find out another meaning so it wasn't a real joke, but that's only what I think

Definitely get the book! Seriously, you'll never get a more in-depth and profound look on the Bay Area Music Scene. It's probably the best (biographical) book I've read. (If that word in brakets is even a word)

good idea, do you know where I can buy it in German cause I only found it in English? my two favorite bands appear in this book: Green Day and Dead Kennedys :D

I definitely need to buy this book, reading only these few paragraphs I was fascinated by the descriptions, the people and generally what happened there! And you can see closely what influenced Green Day. I like these quotes from the books on the right on the site where Fat Mike says that Green Day became big because they were better than the others. A punk band saying this for Green Day is great, it just shows that Green Day became a huge band because of being good, not due to "selling out" or whatever. I wish I could get it, I think I can only buy it online and this, I can't :pinch:

why not?

man I'm feeling happy for Billie that he was thrown out of DWK or maybe he would be dead like Lucky Dog

I know it's a late answer, but Billie Joe said the tattoo "DWK" means "Deadly White Kung Fu" himself on an interview. So if he said it twice, either it's true or he doesn't want to say the true meaning.

yes, that was a joke, we discussed it above

She's just saying it's possible he isn't keen on telling the real meaning of it, which could be true given the cirumstances plus the fact he's said the 'deadly white fung fu' thing more than once. It might just not be something he wants to share publicly, and I can't say I blame him.

ah sorry I'm so tired cause it's so late here, I think I didn't read the full post from her  but I think the answer could be what I wrote in this post:

Kinda off topic, but when they were in Argentina, Billie wrote "DWK" in some guy's back for him to get tattooed. Later the guy asked him what it means and he said "death wish kids". (Don't know if it's relevant, but I thought it was kinda interesting that Billie wrote this instead of his signature, it shows it still means something to him). Anyway, here's the video of Billie saying what it means:

But maybe the guy just wanted him to write DWK instead of his name?

then maybe it's normal to make a joke about it

Generally my prents don't let me buy stuff online

And yes! Definitely! If he wasn't thrown out of DWK then he may wouldn't be where he is today. Or maybe he wouldn't even be alive, that's right! Anyway, no matter how mind-blowing all these things are I'm not down with the "live-crazy-die-young" kind of attitude, it's good to know where to stop, where your limits are and try to stay alive.

It's only available in English ;) Doubt it would pay off translating it and having it sold in other languages.

Where you're from? It's sold in bookstores across the US.
