greendaytone Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 This brings another question to mind - who played piano on Knowledge? Probably Billie. There's a piano on Knowledge?
DecanoLP Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 There's a piano on Knowledge? I always wondered if the part at 0:21 is a piano, but I'm not sure at all...

jtdscape Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 There's a piano on Knowledge? Another question for Larry when you see him today perhaps?
greendaytone Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Another question for Larry when you see him today perhaps? Yeah, why not? (and it's tomorrow)
The Snark Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 I've been wondering about this for some time and it just occurred to me to ask here. I keep seeing pictures and tiny clips of a video for American Idiot with the guys holding signs with the lyrics on them. What was this made for and is there a place to watch it?
Fuzz Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 It was a behind the scenes, part of 'Heart Like A Hand Grenade' which aired on Fuse about 5 or 6 years ago. I'm sure it's on YouTube or for download somewhere.
The Snark Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Thanks! I could never find it because I didn't know it was part of HLAHG, but I got it now.
green day is Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 There is most certainly piano in Knowledge. Someone in the "hidden things in songs" thread posted about it and I was amazed. It's pretty low in the mix, but it's there. It starts right at the end of the line "can't get the top off the bottom of the barrel". Just put your ear next to the speaker during that line and you'll definitely hear it. And if you keep your ear by the speaker, you'll hear it throughout the song. You can pretty much only hear it when Billie isn't singing, but if you listen hard enough you can hear it when he is too.

As for who plays it (if it's indeed in there) -- I recall some pre-21CB release info from, I think it was Rolling Stone magazine, that noted Billie had learned to play piano during the band's break between AI and 21CB. If that's correct, then the powers of deductive reasoning would lead one to conclude that someone else most likely played it back in the 39/Smooth and Kerplunk era. Would be great if Larry can fill in the gap in our Knowledge here. /BadPun It's from the secret/semi private FHT show they played after the musical ended in April Ok that explains why Billie looks like shit in that one.

I think there's an interview where he said he'd really wanted guitar lessons but his hands were too small so he had to have piano lessons instead, which he didn't enjoy lol. He says he can play the piano in that little "Look For Love" interview . Whether that gave him enough skill to play on that song I have no idea, and I suppose a lot of people can play a bit of piano so it wasn't necessarily him anyway. Be interesting to find out.
Heather. Posted December 27, 2011 Posted December 27, 2011 Now you've piqued my curiosity too! Tony should definitely inquire with Larry about it. I've always had the impression that Billie learned piano as a kid, was probably pretty decent for a while, then forgot it during his teens and twenties, and re-learned in the past few years to the point of resurrected decency. Now I want him to add one ironic rendition of Billy Joel's Piano Man to their annoying Shout! medley and I'm all set.

Mayyyybeeeeee.............

pasalaska Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Wait, so is there piano on Op. Ivy's version as well? haha, no. Have you ever heard the Op Ivy version?
Heather. Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 I think a couple of months ago someone posted a link to a really interesting article that analyzed scientifically why BOBD is such a good song... I can't find it for the life of me and have no idea where to look. Does anyone have it?
green day is Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 Wait, so is there piano on Op. Ivy's version as well? It's all piano on Op Ivy's version. I can barely hear the guitar over all that piano!
Liam Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 It's all piano on Op Ivy's version. I can barely hear the guitar over all that piano! Was that reply really needed?
Hedwig Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 haha, no. Have you ever heard the Op Ivy version? Yes, I have. That's why I was convinced that there wasn't piano on gd's version either in the first place. But now I realize how stupid my question was. I guess I just wasn't using what's called a brain...
HeißblütigerPinguin Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 To those of you who have AAF or have watched it: Does it have backstage scenes like BIAB? Or is it just the show?
DecanoLP Posted December 28, 2011 Posted December 28, 2011 To those of you who have AAF or have watched it: Does it have backstage scenes like BIAB? Or is it just the show? It contains minimal backstage scenes right at the beginning and between some of the songs, but altogether you probably get one and a half minutes at the most. It's not comparable to BIAB at all.

farley drexel hatcher Posted December 30, 2011 Posted December 30, 2011 Has anyone here brought any clothes on Adeline records? I want to buy the grey hoodie, but I'm not sure about sizes ... I want it to roomy, so I was thinking a medium as I'd usually go for a small? But I don't it to be huge either.

It really just depends on how baggy you want it.

Yeah, if it is a man's hoodie then medium might be pretty big on you if you normally take a small. I would definitley go for small.
