After listening to Stay the Night for the first time recently, I could have sworn that I had heard the beginning of it before. Is it possible that part of Stay the Night is in the Awesome as F*ck DVD?

Nah I don't think so. It does have some similarities to other Green Day songs though, Too Much Too Soon springs to mind and probably some others too that I can't think of off the top of my head. Could that be what's making it seem like you've heard it before?

This guy made a download of all the new stuff

That's about as close as we have right now, I believe.

Yeah, that was probably it. Thanks. I just watched part of Awesome of F*ck, and I think I figured out what it was that I thought was Stay the Night.

Ahh I see, was it similar to another song on there? If so do you remember which one it was? I'm curious

Well, actually, no. It wasn't very similar to another song on there. For some strange reason, I thought the beginning of Stay the Night was the beginning of 21st Century Breakdown. Which makes no sense, because they sound nothing alike. So really, I'm still in the dark as to why I thought it was on there. I think I may also have thought that in was in one of those scenes between songs, where they show things before the concert. I don't think that it was. Who knows? I might have even thought it was similar to Cigarettes and Valentines.

Thanks for explaining , it's funny how with music random things can connect to other things in your mind so yeah I can see how something like that could happen. Now you mention it I'm thinking there is a similarity to Cigarettes And Valentines though, quite a big one. Just humming them in my mind I think both the verses and choruses are similar :sherlock:

Yeah, it is funny how songs can somehow become intertwined in your head. It's interesting that there's a similarity between Cigarettes and Valentines and Stay the Night. You don't think that maybe Stay the Night could have been one of the songs that was intended to be on that album, do you...? :P

Could be! Or it could even just be part of a melody or idea from a C&V song that they ended up using at a later time. It seems newer to me, like the lyrics are more current sounding than C&V. But it's really hard to tell. I'd love to know if it or any of the other new songs are from there.

It was confirmed in an interview that Too Much Too Soon is from C&V. I wish I could point you to the interview, but I don't have the link. It was posted in a thread that was something like "songs from C&V that you think might have been released" or something like that.

Oh yeah! I remember that, can't find the interview either though since all the words involved are too common to search for on here. That one's still weird to me since I associate the song with American Idiot so much, never would've guessed it. I wonder if any of the new songs are from it. I suppose if/when they release them they'll probably say so at some point if they are.

What the hell does "mandolin of discipline" mean? Is there another meaning to mandolin besides the instrument?

Umm Hello! If you have one of the Mike Dirnt Macbeth Studio project T-shirts,

you may have notice this red.... thing.

I have seen a picture of him where he has this tattooed on his shoulder, can't find it anymore though.

So.. I just wanned to ask what this is and if anyone knows more about it. :)

It's probably something really obvious and everyone except me knows it. Arrrgh.

It's a 45-rpm adapter. I'll merge this with the Green Day Question and Answer thread - please use that thread in the future for any other questions you may have.

I've always thought the Stay the Night intro sounds like their cover thingy of Santa Claus Is Coming To Town  Now that I listen to it (Santa Claus), it doesn't sound that similar, but Stay the Night always reminds me of it...)

It was mentioned in this radio interview.

Not sure about that one myself.

There is a kitchen tool called a "mandoline" with the addition of an "e" at the end. It's a slicer. Ouch! Hopefully, that's not the "mandolin" being referred to.

Stay the Night reminds me of 86 (A LOT) and Scattered, but it has something unique/new/fresh about it as well. Great combination, if that's what (certain) songs on the next record sound like, then.. awesome.

Maybe it's just something like striking up another tune. Like, another round of whatever the singer is doing, haha. Maybe he just used mandoline because it is an instrument and it rhymes with discipline (and discipline isn't a word that needs explaining in this song).

I've tried to get my head round that line so many times . I think he really is just talking about the instrument. The song's about discipline etc, so he strikes up a mandolin (plays a bit of mandolin in the background) which he's decided is a mandolin of discipline, as if to say "yay for discipline!". Like you might ring a dinner bell to say "it's dinner" or play a marching drum to say "we're marching"......he plays a discipline mandolin instead.

I've also heard other ideas that the song has a double meaning. That it's about sometimes having to do things or put up with things they don't like as a band/musicians in order to do the things they enjoy as a band. With putting up with being dominated etc in order to get sexual satisfaction as a metaphor for it. Including a reference to a musical instrument would make sense with that. Not sure if I agree with that interpretation or not though.

Does anyone know if its true that Billie has ADHD? Or is it a rumour?

Does anyone know if its true that Billie has ADHD? Or is it a rumour?

I've heard him describe himself as having ADHD before in at least one interview. But a lot of people will say "I've got ADHD" in a non-serious way, just meaning they have a short attention span or are hyper etc, not meaning they've actually been diagnosed with a medical condition. I'm pretty sure the term ADHD wasn't even really used when Billie was young so I highly doubt he's ever been diagnosed with it. I think he was just using the term to describe his personality.

Posted

Billie's difficulty focusing as been talked about a lot (usually to say that he's got ten radios playing in his head at once). ADHD is a very subjective diagnosis, it's very over-diagnosed in America and if he 'has it' doesn't mean much. He 'has/had' a panic disorder too. I doubt he's medicated though, what with his criticism of that in RHS, but who knows.

Anyone have the link to the Green Day Dreams thread? I searched for it, but came up with nothing.
