Class.of.13 Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Anyone know why Billie didn't say the real names of the songs he played at the Tiki Bar or whatever it was called? Like when he played Amy but he said it was called 409 in Your Coffeemaker.

TheJesusOfSuburbiaIsALie Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 This might probably be a stupid question but can you guys give me a few bands Bille/Tre or Mike would have listened to when they were around 15? I know that they've mentioned some in few interviews but I wanna know more bands which they listened to
Heather. Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 Replacements, Van Halen, Husker Du, definitely REM... These are mainly Billie Joe's favorites, at least.
JDookie Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 What is the connotative meaning of the words "horseshoes and handgrenades"?
lizziebix Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 What is the connotative meaning of the words "horseshoes and handgrenades"? It's any old saying: "Almost only counts in horseshoes and handgrendades." In the game horseshoes, almost still scores points; almost in throwing a handgrendade also "scores" even if not exactly on target.
idiot4u Posted October 25, 2011 Posted October 25, 2011 It says 'Be Silently Drawn' It's from a quote by “Let yourself be silently drawn by the stronger pull of that which you really love” by Persian poet Rumi He got it mid 2010 Thank you--that's really beautiful!

Thank you
Heather. Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 Does anyone know how much $$ the guys make? Or just "rock stars" in general? You always see those Forbes list of highest paid celebrities, and it's mostly actors and Jay-Z or pop singers, so I was wondering how much the boys really make? I imagine the majority comes from touring and not record sales? I guess they're "super rich" but not "obscenely rich," by Hollywood standards I mean. Do they make more than a few million a year?
greendaytone Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 It'd be complete speculation. I've never seen any figures in public of what the band earns individually. I remember Rolling Stone had a write up of the top 10 grossing tours and Green Day were in there with a few million (can't remember how much). Anyway, i think they keep all that stuff pretty private and rightly so.
farley drexel hatcher Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 The American Idiot tour brought in 99 million dollars in 2005. Obviously, that was the tour itself before any of the members saw any of it, and that would be cut considerabely, but still. That was just 2005. They're definitely millionaires, haha. But yeah they keep quiet about it. One thing they did talk about is that Billie doesn't get any extra for writing the lyrics.
stuart_and_the_ave Posted October 26, 2011 Posted October 26, 2011 I found this on Billboard No idea how accurate it is, and just glancing through Billboard seems to have the same list for 2009 and 2010 If it is accurate they don't make as much as a lot of bands/singers/etc I guess due to their pretty low ticket prices
greendaytone Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 $99 million on the AI Tour? Really? Wow.
pasalaska Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 $99 million on the AI Tour? Really? Wow. well, just the ticket sales for Wembley stadium must have been around $8million. (80000 people x $100 per ticket) But I don't know if that figure is with or without costs of running the show.
Heather. Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 Very interesting. Thanks guys. I agree that their salaries are rightfully private, was just curious if that kind of stuff happens to be made public like so many movie star salaries. I didn't really think Billie would make more for lyrics, but I guess that happens in other bands? I wonder if that was his decision and he could hypothetically get more?

I understand your curiosity too, don't worry I'm sure all of us wonder about it at some point. And yeah, I'm pretty sure some bands probably do have differing pay for different roles. I'm sure all that is agreed upon when signing contracts and the like, and I'm sure there's nothing legally stopping a band member from doing that... Though whether the other band members would agree is another story. I'm sure he could ask for more, to the detriment of Mike and Tre's pay, but we all know that he'd never do that.
Zelda Posted October 27, 2011 Posted October 27, 2011 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7F_9ND5SEDQ Is this an official video? People are going back and forth about it in the comments, and I just want to know for sure if it's real or not. I know it says "Reprise Records 2005" at the end, but honestly, I just can't imagine the guys having anything to do with this godawful video.

I forget who the director was. Anyway, it is an actual film strip that was going to be used, but it is NOT by any means a music video. When it was leaked, it did not have music. It's a piece of film that would have been used in the video had it been completed.

It's official footage, shot by Sam Bayer and owned by Warner/Reprise. Unless I've read wrong, it was originally released/leaked without the song - just the footage on its own. Someone then put the footage with the song. It was never intended to be the Watsername video, and was just extra, discarded footage. edit: late.

Compared to the rest of the list 12 million (or 3-4 million a person) doesn't seem like much, until you put it into a real world perspective. edit: oops, this post doesn't have much to do with Green Day...

I didn't really think Billie would make more for lyrics, but I guess that happens in other bands? I wonder if that was his decision and he could hypothetically get more? From what I remembered reading, Billie wanted everything to be split three ways equally, including his lyrics royalties, so they were all earning the same (and that's where most of the money is to be honest) And that was a quote from Billie himself, like in an interview. I just can't remember where from now.

Except that they can't possibly get all their own tour money... you have to pay alllllll the road crew, not to mention the venue you're playing, ya? For all we know, they could get less than 50% of tour $$, and if that's 6 million dollars split three ways, well, they'll still live very comfortably for a while, but in today's world $2 million ain't what it used to be...

It said this on top of the article, though, and I assumed that was true. Note that Billboard’s tally for each artist is based on the artist’s share of revenue (earned from CD and digital sales, publishing royalties and all forms of streaming, as well as the biggie—touring) as opposed to total dollars generated by each artist in the ranking. and with 2 million you can do a lot... if you put just half of it, a million, in a saving's account - and do it in a smart way - you can $30,000 a year just from interest. If you immediately spend it and all that, then no, 2 million isn't a lot, but if you treat it well, you can go a loooong way with 2 million.
