When the guys aren't on tour, do you think Mike and Billie call Tre by his real name?

I wanna see a fan call him frank one day.

Haha, I can imagine, like, when you're at a show, and they're playing KFAD/Shout.. People are shouting that name or holding up signs with "Frank" written on them. I wonder what their reaction would be xD

That's exactly what I wanted to answer :P

Let's do that someday, I really wanna see their faces

The links not working now :pinch: ill keep trying, and thanks Aska :)

Next tour I'm bringing a sign saying "We want Frank to sing Dominated Love Slave".

Not really, but I bet they would be a bit confused

Was Drama Queen supposed to be on American Idiot or on 21st Century Breakdown? I know it's a deleted song from one of those albums but I don't know which... :ermm: I want to know if it describes Whatsername or Gloria

According to Larry Livermore (who gave him the name Tre Cool), he's actually had the nickname Tre since he was a toddler. It's because his name is Frank Edwin Wright III - "tre" is Italian for three. All Larry did was add the Cool. So yeah he's been known as Tre for a loooong time.

It has nothing to do with it being Italian for three, it's because Trés is French for very. As in, Very Cool. But they took off the S.

Neither.

But if they gave him the name when he was young, and then Larry suggested the "Cool" to make "Very Cool", your story makes no sense...

I always thought "trey" was the nickname for someone named the "III" and that's how he got the name. Obviously I have nothing to back this up, but it always seemed logical to me.

I've always heard that Larry gave him Tré as well.

I always paired Tre with tres to make the spin on very cool. Just seemed logical to me

From what I know it's a song from 21st CB, so it describes Gloria.

Larry Livermore himself said it a few months ago! I think if anyone knows it's him. I don't remember whether it was on his facebook or his blog but it was one of the two. He's said that he was already called Tre and he only added the Cool on several occasions, and then more recently he also explained where the original Tre nickname came from.

He got the nickname Tre as a little kid, as it's Italian for the "III". Then when Larry wanted a punky name for him he added the Cool because it sounds like the French "tres cool". It makes sense - if Larry had come up with the whole thing he would've spelled it Tres Cool. But whether it makes sense or not it's still true since Larry said so haha.

It was supposed to be on 21st Century Breakdown, but it was replaced with Murder City at the last minute.

The one time I read something about what exactly Larry Livermore named Tre, it just said something along the lines of "and I gave him the name Tre Cool", or that's all I can remember.

Either way, in that same blog post he also mentioned that it's Tre and not Tré. I mean, if we're nitpicking anyway

I can't find that particular post, though =/

Several magazines that mentioned Drama Queen on the tracklist, and other magazines saying Murder City was added last minute.

I am looking for an interview of Billie Joe Armstrong from over 20 years ago that contained poetry by him. Parts of the interview took place in a house, and some on a stage that looked like Gilman. In the house, there was a table with a bowl of fruit on it and there was some girl (not on the table) that was not Adrienne. On the Green Day website for a while before it changed to the American Idiot stuff, there was a photograph from this interview showing him, the girl, and the bowl of fruit at the table. In the final part of the interview he gave a punchline for the entire interview in a room where Mike and Tre were at a piano laughing, afterward he stepped out of the room into a hallway and shrugged. The interview was on cable television just when Dookie was about to come out. It might be on VHS somewhere, since that is the only medium anyone could record it on at that time besides audio. The Official Green Day Message board was around at that time. There was a phone number to call posted on the interview at the bottom of the screen in marquee.

Has anyone seen or does anyone have this video or an audio of it?

That does not say he was the first to give him the name Tre aswell. It says "playing on the resemblance of “Tre” to “très”", so to me it seems like Tre was a nickname he had already.

Yeah exactly. He was called Tre, so Larry gave him the name Tre Cool.

I don't know why this is being argued about though. Not long ago Larry Livermore explained that he'd been known as Tre since he was a toddler and that he just added the Cool later. So there's nothing to discuss - that's what happened!

Wasn't there something on that VH1 Green Day special from the AI era that interviewed Tre's sister and father about his name? How he had it before he was in the Lookouts?

It's fairly common here to use the nickname "Tre" for a son who is third in a line of successive names....I have known at least three other Tre's. Always thought it was a fun nickname. I haven't seen any of the interviews or read what Larry wrote, but I always assumed he had that nickname long before he was Cool.

He's always been cool.
