green day is Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Is The Ballad Of Wilhelm Fink supposed to be a spin-off/parody of the Joni Mitchell song Big Yellow Taxi? Just asking because it kind of sounds like it and I know Green Day played Big Yellow Taxi live before The Grouch on the Nimrod tour. I think one of Billie's side projects covered it too. It was Pinhead Gunpowder that covered it. I just listened to BYT, and I'm really not seeing the similarity.
deadair Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 It was Pinhead Gunpowder that covered it. I just listened to BYT, and I'm really not seeing the similarity. There a line in The Ballad Of Wilhelm Fink that is "smash the bottle in the parking lot". I was just wondering if that line was a reference to Big Yellow Taxi

Idlewild. Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Which was more popular, Stuck With Me or Walking Contradiction?
whatsername..x Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Which was more popular, Stuck With Me or Walking Contradiction? Mmm, I'd say Walking Contradiction I think
EvanAsFuck Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 Which was more popular, Stuck With Me or Walking Contradiction? Well I think it's hard to really judge that, but I bet more people know or have heard Walking Contradiction out of those two... Just my guess though.

Just my guess though. yeah, that's exactly why I went for that one too, plus the video's awesome so probably more memorable to alot of people
Jaymee!! Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 I didn't even know there was a Stuck With Me video until last year Remember the thread I made about the video thinking it was all new and unknown and shit? Walking Contradiction is the better song anyway.
Guest EDIT Posted July 4, 2011 Posted July 4, 2011 The Stuck With Me single was more popular but the WC music video received more airplay.
JDookie Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Last time I was listening to Olivia I found natural to link it with Billie Joe's mum Ollie... Maybe her name is the short for Olivia... What do you think about?
Tripe Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Last time I was listening to Olivia I found natural to link it with Billie Joe's mum Ollie... Maybe her name is the short for Olivia... What do you think about? I never thought of that, but you're right...it's kind of a natural connection. I don't know what her full name is. Bet there was a lot of discussion about that in the songs thread when that song was first played in concert. It would be like the Beatles and "Julia," which Lennon wrote about his mother.
pasalaska Posted July 5, 2011 Posted July 5, 2011 Bet there was a lot of discussion about that in the songs thread when that song was first played in concert. oh yes. General consensus was that it's about Billie's mum.

green day is Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 Found it, one of the top comments says what they were doing.

Lauralovesgreenday Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 please could someone tell me the story of how mike ended up breaking both of his arms in a pillow fight? thanks!
green day is Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 please could someone tell me the story of how mike ended up breaking both of his arms in a pillow fight? thanks! He was having a pillow fight with his girlfriend, and he ran into a low ceiling, and it knocked him down and he landed on his elbows and broke them.
darenmay Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 in one 1994 radio live show, billie introduced 80 -the next song-, and he (or mike) said 5 times 16. connection? did he like meet adrienne in may 16, or what could be? why did billie nickname adrienne 80?

He nicknamed her 80 because '80' sounds like 'Adie'

Adie. Adrienne. It's Adie, not 80, 80 is just the name of the song because it's a play on words. No connection between the two numbers.
Karen. Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 in one 1994 radio live show, billie introduced 80 -the next song-, and he (or mike) said 5 times 16. connection? did he like meet adrienne in may 16, or what could be? why did billie nickname adrienne 80? 5x16=80. A play on Adie, sounds like 80.
Hermione Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 The 80/Adie thing is much more obvious if you're American haha. Like, in England we pronounce 80 as "eighTy" not "eighDy" so it took me ages to make the connection between the song and the name. please could someone tell me the story of how mike ended up breaking both of his arms in a pillow fight? thanks! He was having a pillow fight with his girlfriend, and he ran into a low ceiling, and it knocked him down and he landed on his elbows and broke them. And then he and Billie laughed about it all the way to the hospital, apparently . And then Billie wrote a song about it and named it Pulling Teeth, after the Metallica song "Anesthesia Pulling Teeth". Because Mike's girlfriend's name, Anastastia, sounds a bit like Anesthesia.
darenmay Posted July 6, 2011 Posted July 6, 2011 never thought before about the sounds alike. i've always pronounced 80 as eighty. adie=80. thanks guys for the answers!
