LauraNora Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Does anyone know why Green Day put the song welcome to paradise on Dookie again?
November's Storms Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Does anyone know why Green Day put the song welcome to paradise on Dookie again? It was the producer Rob Cavallo that told them they should have it on Dookie too. I'm a little short on detail though!
Annie, get your gun Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 In the cover of "A Quick one", is Mike who says "little girl, stop your crying. Ivor the engine driver is gonna make you feel alright"... ( ) and then sings the part Ivor the Engine Driver? To me it's him, but maybe I'm wrong

Fiona? Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Yeah totally agrees with you. And when you compare it with this one the handwriting is pretty much the same, so in my opinion the adeline letter was written by Billie too (: Hey, was this what Billie wrote to some mom who bought a GD album for her kid then it was explicit and she got all pissed and wrote the band? Cuz i don't know if i got the story right . . .
November's Storms Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hey, was this what Billie wrote to some mom who bought a GD album for her kid then it was explicit and she got all pissed and wrote the band? Cuz i don't know if i got the story right . . . Yeah she wrote to him expressing her anger about the explicit content and lyrics in Insomniac. Saying she bought Dookie and she and her child really enjoyed it, especially the song When I Come Around. Billie replied to her with that, and it was also the inspiration behind the song Reject on Nimrod.

( ) and then sings the part Ivor the Engine Driver? To me it's him, but maybe I'm wrong Yeah, it's Mike. He sings the whole "My name is Ivor, I'm an engine driver" part, and then starting with "He told me he loves you" it's Billie again. I love this cover btw, really great. (And Tre says the second "stop your crying", and "we have" after Mike's "we have a remedy")
Hermione Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Hey, was this what Billie wrote to some mom who bought a GD album for her kid then it was explicit and she got all pissed and wrote the band? Cuz i don't know if i got the story right . . . What Stephen said, and also here's the letter she wrote to Billie: Yeah, it's Mike. He sings the whole "My name is Ivor, I'm an engine driver" part, and then starting with "He told me he loves you" it's Billie again. I love this cover btw, really great. (And Tre says the second "stop your crying", and "we have" after Mike's "we have a remedy") When I saw the Foxies do that song live Billie sang that part. It sounds like Billie on the studio version to me too. Did you hear some info that it's Mike or do you just think it sounds like him? As far as I can hear (and from seeing it live), Tre says the whole "We have a remedy. Little girl, stop your crying. Ivor the engine driver's gonna make you feel all right" part, and Mike says "You are all forgiven" at the end, but Billie does all the singing. I could be wrong though. Do people think it's Billie or Mike singing the Ivor The Engine driver verse?

And I think it's awesome that he said "that's the difference between you and me, I do what i want, you do what you're told" be because those are my favorite lyrics in Reject. But what the hell? Dookie is pretty explicit! Longview comes to mind right about now . . . haha What Stephen said, and also here's the letter she wrote to Billie: Thanks for posting that letter I'd never read that before In the cover of "A Quick one", is Mike who says "little girl, stop your crying. Ivor the engine driver is gonna make you feel alright"... ( ) and then sings the part Ivor the Engine Driver? To me it's him, but maybe I'm wrong Who actually wrote that song? I mean, Green Day covered it, but what artist is it by? Ya, but parents check what I have posted, I'm thirteen, what are you gonna do? You tell your parents that their sex made you. lol.
bollard_11 Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Really newb question that does be asked alot. Don't judge me, just curious, what does Beej use to style his hair for performing as St. Jimmy? Be gentle, I am nosy.

Longview comes to mind right about now . . . haha Nah as you can see from the letter she didn't say she bought Dookie, only that they liked When I Come Around when they heard it on the radio/MTV. I expect she would've written a similar letter if she'd heard the rest of Dookie

Don't judge me, just curious, what does Beej use to style his hair for performing as St. Jimmy? Be gentle, I am nosy. That is actually a really good question! I'm not sure either, but I DO know that BJ used to style his hair with Jermac Styling Spritz to "get his hair good and crunchy". ( - Green Day Bits on 39/Smooth) that probably wasn't helpful at all, sorry!
Hermione Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Ah, so true . . haha Oh and to answer another one of your questions, A Quick One While He's Away is by The Who
Fiona? Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Oh and to answer another one of your questions, A Quick One While He's Away is by The Who wow, you're kidding!!! that's awesome!!! I had no idea. *purchasing song now*
November's Storms Posted April 11, 2011 Posted April 11, 2011 Offtopic once and once only on this, but one thing I love about The Who's recording of A Quick One. They were still quite a small band back then, with not a lot of money. There was one part of this song where the band wanted to get string instruments (particularly cellos) to come in to play a piece in the song, but they didn't have the money so there is a part where 2 band members (can't remember which ones) are just singing "cello, cello, cello" over and over again. Brilliant!

luvgirlcl Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Ok, so this is a really lame question, but did Billie or any of the guys said something in response to Brandon Flowers (from The Killers) when he criticized them about BIB being shot in the UK and singing 'don't wanna be an american idiot' outside the US?

Katarina. Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 When I saw the Foxies do that song live Billie sang that part. It sounds like Billie on the studio version to me too. Did you hear some info that it's Mike or do you just think it sounds like him? No, I think it sounds like him. Same thing with the Network's Hungry Hungry models. A lot of people thought it was Mike, but obviously it's Tre (Disease is Punishment!). So what I hear in the Quick One: Billie sings pretty much the whole song. Now that I've listened to the song more, I can understand why you think it's Tre saying the "we have a remedy" part. Now I'm getting confused, haha. But still I think it's Mike: we have a remedy, Tre: we have, Mike: little girl, stop your crying, Tre: stop your crying. Ivor the engine driver's gonna make you feel all right.. that sounds a lot like Tre. So I'm just gonna ask everyone here: what do you guys think? Who's saying those lines? And to me the part after that still sounds like Mike.
littlegirl-of-suburbia Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 Ok, so this is a really lame question, but did Billie or any of the guys said something in response to Brandon Flowers (from The Killers) when he criticized them about BIB being shot in the UK and singing 'don't wanna be an american idiot' outside the US? Good question i'd like to say that Billie said fuck you Brandon Flowers (what a stupid name he could have changed it to something cool like Tre did) on live tv... but i think that Billie did say something (can't remember what) about it... I know that i one of the Static Noise podcasts the guys talk about it (and maybe you'll find tyhe answer there)

luvgirlcl Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I think Brandon had a point tbh but then he lost all credibility of his own argument when The Killers' live DVD was shot in...you guessed it, London. Yeah, but the whole point he was getting at was not only having a DVD shot overseas (which btw, almost all bands do), it was that together with singing something that stirred anti-american feelings... but ANYWAYS, if anyone happens to stumble upon some sort of answer from the guys, would you let me know?
pasalaska Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 I swear I've read or seen some sort of reaction from Billie, but then again he doesn't usually rise to criticism... my mind may just be making things up. /useless post
captain peroxide Posted April 12, 2011 Posted April 12, 2011 He tries to not read stuff about himself or the band. He said it throws him off and makes him second-guess himself too much, so he tries to stay away from reviews, criticism, etc. Which is backed up by what Cometbus says in #54 as well. That said, he may well have responded to Flowers, I don't know.
