Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Random question, but at the beginning of East Jesus Nowhere, is that Billie who's saying, "And we will see how godless of a nation we have become"? I always wondered because it sort of sounds like him, but not really in a way... idk, lol It's not Billie. I think it was recorded from some sort of radio preach type of thing, but I'm not sure.
Hermione Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 It's not Billie. I think it was recorded from some sort of radio preach type of thing, but I'm not sure. Yeah it's a sample from somewhere, and I'm guessing it is from a radio thing like that since it sounds like it, and it's meant to sound like a radio being tuned in at the start of the song. But about that, on the album the sample says "And we will see how godless a nation we have become" But when Billie says it live he always says "And we will see how godless OF a nation we have become" Dude! Don't you ever actually listen to the song? How can he of all people not know what it says? Plus the way he says it is grammatically incorrect

Plus the way he says it is grammatically incorrect I never even noticed that. mind = BLOWN. aaaand it's not like Billie's well known for knowing all the words to his material, y'know?
Anja Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Yeah it's a sample from somewhere, and I'm guessing it is from a radio thing like that since it sounds like it, and it's meant to sound like a radio being tuned in at the start of the song. Punx89 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I never got what the difference is between saying "how godless a nation" and "how godless of a nation" Is there even a difference? lol I do not think that there is a difference between them.Idk for sure
Laura! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Random question, but at the beginning of East Jesus Nowhere, is that Billie who's saying, "And we will see how godless of a nation we have become"? I always wondered because it sort of sounds like him, but not really in a way... idk, lol I tried searching for it but all I got were people quoting EJN.
Hermione Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I never even noticed that. mind = BLOWN. aaaand it's not like Billie's well known for knowing all the words to his material, y'know? True . But my sister and I just happened to notice this ages ago and now get amusement from it every time he says it I never got what the difference is between saying "how godless a nation" and "how godless of a nation" Is there even a difference? lol Oh yeah it means the same thing either way, it's just not grammatically correct with the "of".
The Platypus! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 On Dominated Love Slave there is someone singing in the background for most of the song I was just wondering if anyone knew who it was ?
oda Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 On Dominated Love Slave there is someone singing in the background for most of the song I was just wondering if anyone knew who it was ? I'm guessing it's Mike, because Billie usually does the drums for that song.
The Platypus! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm guessing it's Mike, because Billie usually does the drums for that song. It doesn't sound like Billie or Mike to me but I suppose it does make sense that Mike would be doing the background vocals. Thanks .
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Haha, I always thought it was Billie just screaming and shouting about. Also sounds kind of like him, plus it sounds kind of "distanced", like it's not sung into a microphone, just picked up by it. And in some old live video of it, he also screams during the song.
Katarina. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Haha, I always thought it was Billie just screaming and shouting about. Also sounds kind of like him, plus it sounds kind of "distanced", like it's not sung into a microphone, just picked up by it. And in some old live video of it, he also screams during the song. Well, all the "heeey ha" stuff is Billie. That's what I thought. The backing vocals are sung by Mike as far as I know. It sounds like him anyway.
-Billiejoezee- Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Well, all the "heeey ha" stuff is Billie. *goes off to listen to the song again*
Katarina. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 *goes off to listen to the song again* I just listened to the song again, and it's not just Billie. It's Tre too. I think..
-Billiejoezee- Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I just listened to the song again, and it's not just Billie. It's Tre too. I think.. I always thought it was just tre and mike singing in the background like the part "pick up truck."
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Well, all the "heeey ha" stuff is Billie. That's what I thought. The backing vocals are sung by Mike as far as I know. It sounds like him anyway. Yeah, the background vocals are Mike. Lol I only notice now that that was what the question was about, not the heey ha stuff. But I was talking about the heeey ha stuff. wow being clear.
Anja Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 To me it sounds like all three of them but in different parts of the song of course. Like, the "hee ya" (or whatever) sounds like Billie to me but the "hey bo (?)" sounds like Tré. What is the very last word they're saying though? I don't understand it.
oda Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 What is the very last word they're saying though? I don't understand it. I think it's "staples"
Katarina. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Yeah I think it's "staples" too. Can I just say this is the best discussion about Dominated Love Slave ever.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I hear "lightbulbs". But it might as well be "staples" said kind in a funny way. --- there's too many hey ha/wooo sounds in the song, I totally forgot a bunch. it's defo not all Billie.
Anja Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Maybe that's a question we can ask next time they do a Q&A. Or on twitter =D
Katarina. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Maybe that's a question we can ask next time they do a Q&A. Or on twitter =D Yeah. And where the name Emenius Sleepus comes from. And where the "godless of a nation" line at the beginning for EJN comes from, or who says it (to me it still kind of sounds like John Roecker). =D
lizziebix Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 True . But my sister and I just happened to notice this ages ago and now get amusement from it every time he says it Oh yeah it means the same thing either way, it's just not grammatically correct with the "of". I'm not sure why, but we US Americans tend to overuse the word "of" a lot and insert it incorrectly into conversation all the time. Of course, I can't think of a single example at the moment but I know I hear it all the time!
Desensitized09 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 If you are talking about the 21st Century Breakdown version, I believe it is a soundbite and I think I heard it somewhere but I can't remember exactly where I heard it but its not Billie. When they play it live, Billie always leads into EJN with "And you will see how godless of a nation we have become." Yeah, I was talking about the album version, sorry, I should have made that more clear. Thanks! It's not Billie. I think it was recorded from some sort of radio preach type of thing, but I'm not sure. Thanks! Dude! Don't you ever actually listen to the song? How can he of all people not know what it says? Plus the way he says it is grammatically incorrect Haha yeah I've noticed that! Too funny I've heard it live too many times so I tend to forget mind = BLOWN. aaaand it's not like Billie's well known for knowing all the words to his material, y'know? I literally "lol'ed" at that I tried searching for it but all I got were people quoting EJN. Haha thanks for looking it up where the "godless of a nation" line at the beginning for EJN comes from, or who says it (to me it still kind of sounds like John Roecker). =D Deeeeefinitely not John Roecker, haha I'm not sure why, but we US Americans tend to overuse the word "of" a lot and insert it incorrectly into conversation all the time. Of course, I can't think of a single example at the moment but I know I hear it all the time! This is very true..I tend to do that a lot
Hermione Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I'm not sure why, but we US Americans tend to overuse the word "of" a lot and insert it incorrectly into conversation all the time. Of course, I can't think of a single example at the moment but I know I hear it all the time! Ha! I've never noticed that but that must be why it comes so naturally to him to say it that way. I'm sure I say plenty of grammatically incorrect things every day too though, it's just the fact that he quotes the line wrong that amuses me
