GDM Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Book Thug Nation is probably the best as its aarons store. There are probably others selling it as well. Tanya probably knows I posted links to two stores above. BTW, they don't really talk about the bookstore being Aaron's... just an FYI...
Anja Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Awesome, thank you! I hope they're still selling them by the time we get there! Pretty sure. In some bookstores in the Bay Area, they're selling issues from like 7 years ago I posted links to two stores above. BTW, they don't really talk about the bookstore being Aaron's... just an FYI... Oh okay. What's FYI?
GDM Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Oh okay. What's FYI? Abbreviation for "for your information."
Abbey. Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 As Tanya mentioned, I would encourage everyone to hold off purchasing zines from Microcosm for the time being. Please do not spend $30 to have it shipped to you. I know 1234 Go Records in Oakland already has it in stock as well as many independent bookstores across the USA. Please google "zine" and whatever country you live in to find a zine distro by you. Shoot them an email to ask them if they distro Cometbus or know a distro in your country. It is a well well known zine and please promise me you will not pay an extraordinary amount in shipping. You are getting ripped fucking off if you do.
clairemarie Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 Just ordered my copy from Last Gasp! I could have gone into the city to get it but shipping was only $6. I won't be up there for a while so I didn't mind paying a little extra. I have to say though, $30 is ridiculous!
EvanAsFuck Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 So I"m gonna be in NYC for the Musical from the 25th-27th... Do you think there will still be copies of this available then? Cause otherwise I'll just pay the extra 5 bucks for shipping...
GDM Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 So I"m gonna be in NYC for the Musical from the 25th-27th... Do you think there will still be copies of this available then? Cause otherwise I'll just pay the extra 5 bucks for shipping... Don't know. When I bought it at Book Thug (from uh... Aaron, btw...) he said he had 15,000 copies of it in the back... and he was wrapping them up to ship to other bookstores. I am pretty sure that it won't sell out, but since it's on GD.com, who knows?
GDM Posted February 5, 2011 Author Posted February 5, 2011 Microcosm just emailed me back... they say: "It looks like it comes out today technically but we haven't received them yet but we'll list it as soon as we get them."
Abbey. Posted February 5, 2011 Posted February 5, 2011 It will not sell out that quickly. Moat distros still have #53 in stock and that cam out in Oct 2009.

Yeah it wasn't a smart decision to buy it from there.. I would've canceled my order to get it from somewhere else but they don't refund shipping cost, so I wouldn't get the 30$ back only the 4$. Next time I'm not buying anything with expensive shipping like this, that's for sure!
Tripe Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Thanks for the headsup about Last Gasp having #54 online now. Ordered two, only $6 shipping which is reasonable. Looking forward to reading this!
SOMERTEN Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Just wondered if the Green Day fans he has such distain for are expected to pay for this and make him money. Hope someone scans it, it's the punk thing to do. Must say though he seems a rather 'lost middle aged man' himself. Who does he think buys Pinhead Gunpowder records if not Green Day fans? judgemental git.
Moxy Crimefighter Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great, I hope I can get my meat hooks on this. I love Cometbus Must say though he seems a rather 'lost middle aged man' himself. Who does he think buys Pinhead Gunpowder records if not Green Day fans? judgemental git. Pinhead Gunpowder fans buy Pinhead Gunpwoder records. If Green Day fans buy them and see the band as the Billie Joe Show. then they aren't real fans of the band.
IscoredWaddlesgoals Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Just wondered if the Green Day fans he has such distain for are expected to pay for this and make him money. Hope someone scans it, it's the punk thing to do. Must say though he seems a rather 'lost middle aged man' himself. Who does he think buys Pinhead Gunpowder records if not Green Day fans? judgemental git. Exactly. I'm tempted to order it, but I think I'd just feel like a total mug. If you don't like Green Day fans, Why dedicate an entire issue to Green Day that you know they'll buy ?
SOMERTEN Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great, I hope I can get my meat hooks on this. I love Cometbus Pinhead Gunpowder fans buy Pinhead Gunpwoder records. If Green Day fans buy them and see the band as the Billie Joe Show. then they aren't real fans of the band. Really?, wonder how they heard of them in the first place.... PS. I take it his first class flight costs to China will be getting repaid to the people he has such distain for, the Green Day fans that paid for it. A free magazine scan will do instead.
Hermione Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Great, I hope I can get my meat hooks on this. I love Cometbus Pinhead Gunpowder fans buy Pinhead Gunpwoder records. If Green Day fans buy them and see the band as the Billie Joe Show. then they aren't real fans of the band. The majority of Pinhead Gunpowder fans have heard of PHGP through being Green Day fans first, so the majority of people who buy their records are Green Day fans and that includes the 'real' fans too. It's sad that he'd leap to conclusions and be so judgemental about them. But he leaps to conclusions and judges a lot of people in his writing, not just Green Day fans , while often complaining when people do the same to him. He can be a hypocritical git indeed! But he's still an amazing writer and someone who can be admired in many other ways, I might totally disagree with his views or attitude sometimes but that doesn't stop it being fascinating reading. We know what to expect from him already so it's up to each of us whether we want to buy his magazine. If you don't want to you don't have to.
GDM Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 Yea, don't let that stop you from buying it. He talks crap about a lot of people in the issue, though he seems to have a special disdain for hardcore Green Day fans. But, seriously, like I said before, it's the best thing I've ever read about Green Day. He is a great writer. I never read him before my Green Day adventure began in 2009, and I've read a few things from him since then. He's an ass, but a talented one, no doubt. And when you actually talk with him, he's quite nice... so... go figure.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Just wondered if the Green Day fans he has such distain for are expected to pay for this and make him money. Hope someone scans it, it's the punk thing to do. Reading scans from a computer screen is annoying, much rather read it from actual paper. Also, I hope it doesn't sell out too fast, with it being posted on both greenday.com and GDA and all.
SOMERTEN Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 Reading scans from a computer screen is annoying, much rather read it from actual paper. But even if I wanted to buy it, based in the UK I am asked to spend thirty bucks on postage, so you can see why scanning is a better option! Go on, one of you kind souls that have bought it, scan in the interesting bits about Green Day. You can leave out all the crap about his expenses paid for visit, the country (which we can read about anywhere) and his sexist little piggy ramblings! A 40 year old man writing a fanzine, I ask you!
pols4tre Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 I'm picking up my copy when I head off to New York! :D
GDM Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 lol... Larry is asking "It seems some Green Day fans feel they were unfairly characterized in Cometbus 54? Why are they so sure they're the ones being talked about?"
Noy Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 do u think i can order the book from "last gasp books" to israel ? lol... Larry is asking "It seems some Green Day fans feel they were unfairly characterized in Cometbus 54? Why are they so sure they're the ones being talked about?" lol i saw XD
GDM Posted February 6, 2011 Author Posted February 6, 2011 do u think i can order the book from "last gasp books" to israel ? lol i saw XD I posted a long reply on Facebook. God help me. I have a big mouth. Probably why I'm a Green Day fan... If I were you, I'd wait on ordering from Last Gasp. If it's $40 to Australia, it's probably more to Israel. Like Abbey said, google "zines" and you may be able to find a few places in Europe that will send it to Israel for less than $40 US!
jon18 Posted February 6, 2011 Posted February 6, 2011 It would be very nice if someone post the scans on the forum. I live in France and i don't want to spend 20 or 30 euros for a magazine.
