Bastard of 1967 Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 it looks like those same Green Day fans are now going to make him a lot of money At $4 a copy? As I said before that's barely enough to cover printing and distribution costs.
Katarina. Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I'm being all paranoid it'll sell out before I can order it Same here. I'd like to wait with ordering my copy until it's being sold through GDA.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Same here. I'd like to wait with ordering my copy until it's being sold through GDA. On the one hand I want to wait for GDA too because it's probably the cheapest and everything, but on the other hand I'm afraid it'll like, go on sale when I'm at school and when I get home and want to buy it, it's already sold out.
J'net Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 On the one hand I want to wait for GDA too because it's probably the cheapest, but on the other hand I'm afraid it'll like, go on sale when I'm at school and when I get home and want to buy it, it's already sold out. I don't think that will be a problem - we have arranged to get more at the same price if we sell out our first batch.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I don't think that will be a problem - we have arranged to get more at the same price if we sell out our first batch. Oh, that's good
lizziebix Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 I don't think that will be a problem - we have arranged to get more at the same price if we sell out our first batch. Good to know. I keep thinking they'll show up while I'm out of town and get sold out. I could buy directly from last gasp...but I'd rather wait.
clairemarie Posted February 13, 2011 Posted February 13, 2011 Mine came in the mail while I was away on vacation a couple of days ago. I got home last night and I read it until I couldn't keep my eyes open anymore. I finished the rest when I woke up and it was wonderful. I'll definitely be buying any other issue I can get my hands on. The whole paragraph where he says that stuff about Green Day superfans didn't even stick out to me overall. I think it's great he included it and if it hadn't been discussed so thouroughly on here, I wouldn't have paid any mind to it whatsoever. Aaron is simply a fantastic writer. Opinionated, yes, but I can't help but feel for him. Although I may not agree with everything he says, he's nothing short of brutally honest which I admire about him. After reading this, it's not hard for me, at least, to see his side of things. I'm so happy I ordered this and as many others have said, it's worth purchasing if you can.
Fanny. Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Mine came in the mail today And I only got charged 13$ for shipping instead of the 30$ written in my email! I've read the whole discussion in this thread and even though Aaron seems to have a harsh opinion about Green Day fans, it won't stop me from reading this zine, which so many of you described as being a beautiful piece of writing about the true friendship between Billie Joe, Mike and Tré. So I can't wait to read it!
SOB_Edgar A. Poe Posted February 14, 2011 Posted February 14, 2011 Wow. I love reading any book about Green Day and this guy must write a great book if he has this kind of relationship with them. I'm going to be looking all over the interweb for this thing in a few days. If I can get it for decent shipping it will be mine... oh yes... it will be mine.
Wolfdemon Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 I just got this today in the mail and already read all of it. It's fucking amazing. But don't expect to be that much of Green Day in it, Aaron goes off on his own a lot during it and writes, but there is still a good amount of Green Day in it too It's really great to see a sort of "behind the scenes" view point of it. I am now on a Green Day high and am having difficulty coming down from it... Not that that's a bad thing
Bohemian+Scandal Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 Just finished this. It's not exactly overflowing with Green Day as already mentioned but it includes enough of them to satisfy. I'd say it's more about Aaron than anything (as it should be of course). There are some wonderful moments described in the zine from past tours with Green Day and the Asian tour. I honestly couldn't put it down. Aaron has a very simple and fluid writing style that makes it easy to just swim around in. Major enjoyment for me, but now proper sleep has been compromised. Oh, well.
Ellenkc Posted February 15, 2011 Posted February 15, 2011 This just came in the post. Off to do some reading Edit: Shit, I'm glad I got #51 and #52 as well. That was great, definitely something different. I barely noticed the paragraph about the fans, had to backtrack when I figured it out. It's not a paragraph that really stands out from the rest of the book, it fits in rather well with the way Aaron writes. Interesting to read another insight to the band, Schneider seems fun. A six storey building full of used book store sounds like heaven, I'd stay in there for months. I cringed all through the octopus scene, they freak me out enough already. I would definitely avoid Tre in an aquarium that's for sure. Kevin seemed really fucking sleazy.
Tripe Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Just got this yesterday and concur with everyone who says it's a Must Read. Anyone who is a serious fan of the band should definitely try to get it or read it. I thought the same thing about Kevin and the other guys from Prima Donna, Ellen. Especially since I am pretty sure Kevin has had a long tern girlfriend for awhile now. Ew. Could be a problem if/when she reads the Zine. That bit about Tre and the octopus grossed me out too. Mostly, I felt sorry for the poor octopus!
solongfromthestars Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I couldn't help opening those spoilers, I'm dying to read this even more now!
Hermione Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I couldn't help opening those spoilers, I'm dying to read this even more now! Me too. To be honest I don't think I'm looking forward to reading about the octopus though. I read about Tre being cruel to a 'fighting' fish during the Pop Disaster tour (putting it with another fish so they'd fight, and then instead of helping it or putting it out of it's misery when it was badly injured, removing it from the fishbowl and "hilariously" pretending to give it mouth to mouth before putting it back in the bowl and leaving it to suffer). I lost a lot of respect for him when I read that and could only hope he'd changed now he's older. REALLY hope he didn't do anything cruel to an octopus . Will someone tell me what he did?
solongfromthestars Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 I'm intrigued to know what Kevin did as well, I remember a few people saying how sleazy he was on the 2009 UK tour. Aww, really? I didn't know about that but that's just wrong. I hope he didn't harm the octopus, too
farley drexel hatcher Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Could someone who has read this put some nice bits in some spoilers? lol. I want to know if it's still worth reading XD
Fuzz Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Could someone who has read this put some nice bits in some spoilers? lol. I want to know if it's still worth reading XD Just buy it. There's not a single person who bought it who has said anything other than "it's really great" or "definitely a good read for Green Day fans" or things along those lines.

Basically, Tre somehow procured a live octopus and after messing with Aaron with it a bit proceeded to try to eat it alive (some kind of delicacy?). He took a bite out of it, but the Octopus fought back. Tre escaped and I think his bodyguards knifed the Octopus to death. Tre's not exactly the kindest soul when it comes to animals. I've come to learn that now. That guy is legit disturbed. Other mentions of Tre that are in this zine aren't exactly flattering either.

Bastard of 1967 Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 I'm a dick for thinking that's kind of funny. I've read lots of articles about how intelligent octopi really are. Little fucker must've put up a hell of a fight...and yeah, unfortunately it sounds like Tre has a little something with animals that cuts too close to what we used to expect from guys like Michael Vick. Mike and Billie have both really grown up from their own somewhat checkered pasts and it'd be good, I think, for Tre to follow suit one day.

Thanks for telling me, didn't wanna have an unpleasant surprise when reading it. I honestly don't understand how anyone can have such a complete lack of empathy for another living creature that they'd literally torture it and cause it extreme pain purely for kicks. That the fact it must be in agony didn't even enter his mind or trouble him for a second. Disgusting to say the least. It says a lot about a person that they're capable of cruelty like that, it's not just about animals. Someone who does that lacks something important in their character - empathy and compassion. I used to admire Tre as a person as well as a drummer but this and the fish thing have destroyed my opinion of him. Sad.

If anyone would expect anything less from the guy who milked a dog for his coffee, you've missed something along the way.

Pretty sure he didn't physically hurt or even harm that dog while he did it. It's not really acceptable, but still, it's not the same thing. But this? And the fish thing? Totally unacceptable. He's a fully grown man, it's about time he grew the hell up. It's things like this that make him seem unhinged and a bit scary.
GDM Posted February 17, 2011 Author Posted February 17, 2011 While I agree with the thoughts on the octopus, I would say that there was also some really nice things about Tre in this. In a way, he became a little more human, and though I still have issues with the octopus, I think on the whole, he came out much better than not in this. but still, he's whacky, this is for sure.
