He should have died when the Sex Pistols did.

He hates Green Day, yet he likes Gaga? Is he serious...?

Says the man doing butter adverts.

What do people expect? That's just how he is. He's an angry old man who is only mad because Green Day managed to stay relevant, while he's had to resort to doing butter commercials, stints on Judge Judy, and making snide remarks about good bands to remain in the spotlight.

Green Day worked just as hard - if not harder - than the Pistols. The Pistols were a manufactured boyband who were in it for the money right from the get-go, luckily for them they were a fucking good band back then. I'd have a lot more respect for them if Lydon shut his mouth now and then or if they stopped doing those goddamn reunion tours.

I completely agree with you both.

Aaaand I think I can't give anymore rep today. Oh well, I loved everyone's replies, so...

He has a huge boner for Billie. He can't stick it in him, so he has to try to stick something else to his band. :whistle

Everybody has their own opinion, I disagree with him. :)

He's probably just jealous.. I bet his dream was to play in a musical on Broadway. Starring in a self-written play.. Idk.. "Nevermind the Butter" or something.

He's obviously jealous of the length of their career.

I think he's in love with Green Day and there's just a hell of a lot of sexual tension there. MOVE ON JOHN!!!!

I pray for the day when Johnny Rotten realizes he isn't and never will be relevant.

 Anyone saying he's jealous is probably way off. I doubt he gives a fuck about Green Day's success. I just think he's way too hung up on being "truly punk," especially for a man whose band was manufactured by a suit from a label.

I do respect The Sex Pistols, I grew up listening to them and all that but come on Mr Lydon, seriously. Bashing Green Day doesn't make you look any more punk or whatever you're trying to be. STFU already.

But I kinda agree with him on the LaGa thing. She's not like everyone else, that's a good thing.

yknow you cant get upset, john is who he is and he never said he was nice, hes rude and hes speaks his mind, even when he doesnt have room to speak he will, what do you expect.

Just another jealous old man..

Some people I can't stand, one of these is Johnny Lydon.

Seriously, I don't even care about John Lydon. He rejoined the Sex Pistols just to make more money, and he participated in an advertisement for a butter! And this is his opinion, I don't want to judge it or try to change his mind....

Posted

As if Billie cares what he thinks... he's laughing all the way to the bank while Johnny Rotten is well rotten =/

Posted

Wow, just wow.... i think i just lost some respect for Johnny Rotten... Just because Green Day didn't go through the exact same stuff YOU did, doesn't mean they don't go through a lot.... wow :whistle

What a self-absorbed kook.

"They haven't had to go through the violence, and the hate, and the animosity that us chaps way back when had to put up with. We had to fight for every single footstep."

That's a big fat fucking lie.

I posted this in the random news section,

Johnny Rotten is just an irrelevant bitter old man. Who is he to judge anyone after being on the shit that is "I'm a celebrity get me out of here" and those stupid fucking butter adds. He has no credibility anymore

I think his main problem is the immediate success bands can achieve nowadays, compared to the struggle he had.

Oh John, one day you'll realise things evolve and change over time.

Johnny, we're getting a little sick of the "not true punx" thing...

How amusing

Even as far back as during Dookie times Billie's talked about John Lydon in interviews, saying the Sex Pistols were great but the stuff he did afterwards was crap and he's a bitter old man now etc. I'm guessing around the same time Lydon was slagging off all the "new" punk bands coming out and that's probably what inspired Billie's comments, but as far as I know Green Day said negative things about him before he said negative things about them specifically. Although the things they've said about him are true, whereas the things he says about them are hilariously ridiculous.

I think that's the real reason he slags them off all the time and "hates" them - he must've seen some of Billie's comments about him. He'd never admit it but I bet that's why!

John Lydon has a cheek to say anything against Green Day as he is one of the biggest sell outs of the lot. His band were sell outs from the start and all the Sex Pistols ever were, was a mere commercial venture which blew up in his face. He is still riding off the back of that fame clinging to his dignity by a thread. Now, Green Day are riding off the back of a successful number of successive albums and are continuing to exploring new ventures in how to release their music to a wider audience and to a younger generation.

John Lydon is displaying a very close-minded attitude towards music and 'punk'. I think he can't accept the fact that music changes with time. When he says Green Day didn't have to fight off the 'animosity' he faced - I think he needs to have a closer look at Green Day's history - as Green Day lost a whole set of fans when they went to a major label and were outcast from the scene they came from, so they had to do pretty much do all their hard work over again and it paid off. Green Day are a very open minded band and are open to change, just look at the way their sound has changed, they like to take on new challenges and experiment, whereas John Lydon's bands since the Sex Pistols have pretty much been rip offs of the Sex Pistols.

This would be my personal message to John Lydon, please re-evaluate yourself and take a look in the mirror before you start saying sh*t about other bands. Green Day were a small band who have had to fight off massive amounts of crap to get where they are nowadays, as one of the biggest bands of all time and they have constantly proved themselves and stuck at it when the going got tough. Whereas you have always ran for the hills when you had crap flung and you proved you can't take it when the going get's tough.

*Rant over*

This just sums it up really.

I don't even care what this man has to say anymore, its just one big massive sharn in my opinion.
