justcause Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 The thing being that the 'intro' is not an intro - it's a deep conversation, spoken with guitar and bass and drum. I remember being so absorbed in this conversation that when the vocal came in, it almost seemed unnecessary, but then there are these words, another plane sweeping into it. 'The world is a sick machine, breeding a mass of shit' - naw, I never bought that, maybe because I never bought what the world sells - but I could see the place. It's the difference between knowing the dark and letting the dark know you - and I can hear this song resonate in See the Light.
Mar Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 The instrumental is truly what a panic attack sounds like in my head.
darenmay Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 the intro makes the title. it's really a good song!
ifmemoryserves Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 I LOVE THIS SONG Just ugh everything is so great. The instrumentation, the lyrics, the energy. Fantastic.
insomniaticnimrod Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 The name def describes the song. I like the lyrics and the sound. Overall a really good song
Bastard of 1967 Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Best build up ever! I so agree it sounds like pure panic and agitation right from the beginning. And then finally the lyrics come in to express those dark feelings even further. The whole song really captures that feeling of panic so well, the title couldn't be any more fitting. I love the unconventional way this song's put together with the long intro, and the interesting almost grungey sound of the singing part. I love listening to all the little nuances in the music as it builds up and then just enjoying those dark lyrics being sung in such a dark way. It stands out as a really different and interesting song whenever I listen to Insomniac. ...and yet there is *still* a melody that flows through it all. Picture-perfect Insomniac-era Green Day if you ask me. Dark, exceptionally potent, and it kicks the shit out of you through all the angst, panic, and even depression. I'd say this is the most Nirvana-like of all their songs.
Clayish Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Insomniac has some of the best bass lines i've ever heard, and this song DEFINES Mike fucking dirnt. I love Panic Song so much. Just pure anger.

I always pair it up with Armatage Shanks in my mind, they both have that grunge/Nirvana inlfluence.
November's Storms Posted January 29, 2011 Posted January 29, 2011 Contender for my favourite Green Day song. It's the most played on my ipod, simply because like Katarina said, once I hear that intro I can't stop it and just enjoy the ride. As soon as the first few beats of that bass guitar come in, its just a rollercoaster of panic, chaos and noise, which I love Anybody else think that the reason they don't play this song live is because they can't? If I slow drum and bass intro to half its speed, its still incredibly difficult to strum a solid note repeatedly for 2 minutes straight. I always think that they gap before the vocals come in where its just the bass drum and guitar is there purely so Mike and Tré can recover for a bit before playing again. Billie said that "Christian's Inferno" was the most diabolical song he has ever written. I can't say he is wrong but I think this one is. There is no hint of optimism anywhere in it. If you could summarize Insomniac into a song it would be this one. "The world is a sick machine etc..." has to be the bleakest (and one of my favourite) lines in any song I know. And I love how the title is just so simple. No need for poetry or double meanings. This is what panic sounds like so we will call it Panic Song. This song describes how I feel right now pretty well actually.. I used this song for an art project, or rather, based the project around the lyrics, so the lyrics have kind of lost their meaning to me (I'm sure that's temporarily, though) because I've read, seen, listened, analysed (on and wrote them out a little too much, but oh well. I still love the song And go me, I might use the song for another art project as well But it does work very well, the lyrics and the music are descriptive and it's relatively easy to use, to put an image to. Do you have any pictures of the artwork you did based on this song? Or was it even a picture? When I hear this song I always think about summmer time, don't know why but it still feels great.! The thing being that the 'intro' is not an intro - it's a deep conversation, spoken with guitar and bass and drum. I remember being so absorbed in this conversation that when the vocal came in, it almost seemed unnecessary Thats so true, I've never looked at the intro in that way but I know exactly what you mean now.Plus, I've seen a couple of Panic Song covers but this one is the best. The bass player makes it look so effortless! And they did a lot of other cool GD covers that you wouldn't normally see

And they did a lot of other cool GD covers that you wouldn't normally see I was just listening to Last Ride In today, thinking what a cool piece of music it is and how it would be great if they slipped an instrumental track into the next album.
GDInsaniac Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 They should play this song during their first encore.
umbjisfhinefum Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 This song is definitely one of my top 3 of insomniac. I've always felt like if ever I was to just get in my car and fucking drive nowhere...kinda like run away, but not as cheesy...I would play this song as loud as fucking possible.
November's Storms Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 You know when Mike comes up to the front to play the intro to Longview? Imagine if the just started strumming the intro to Panic Song instead, how awesome would that be?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Do you have any pictures of the artwork you did based on this song? Or was it even a picture? I do, somewhere... Let me try to find pictures It was a poster. Couldn't agree more with the rest of your post, btw.
November's Storms Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 I do, somewhere... Let me try to find pictures It was a poster. Couldn't agree more with the rest of your post, btw. Sweet! I love seeing artwork based on the songs. I'd especially love artwork to see this one. And thanks It is one of my all time favs, so I wanted to give my post a bit of effort
Wet socks traumatize me Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 This song is definitely one of my top 3 of insomniac. I've always felt like if ever I was to just get in my car and fucking drive nowhere...kinda like run away, but not as cheesy...I would play this song as loud as fucking possible. Yeah! It's such a powerful song.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Sweet! I love seeing artwork based on the songs. I'd especially love artwork to see this one. And thanks It is one of my all time favs, so I wanted to give my post a bit of effort Haha, it's not really original, the assignment was "make a poster for a song that reflects the feeling of the song" and I had other ideas (some for other songs) but my teacher thought they weren't good so I kind of just went with this as a last resort It doesn't photograph very well, so with flash (colours and contrasts look better) and without flash (without the annoying white spots but the colours look weird, and with a bonus Tre creeping in in the corner). edit: oohhh wait I still had this one too. with flash but with less annoying white spots. Wow sorry for the many pictures.
Metanoia Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 Haha, it's not really original, the assignment was "make a poster for a song that reflects the feeling of the song" and I had other ideas but my teacher thought they weren't good so I kind of just went with this as a last resort It doesn't photograph very well, so with flash (colours and contrasts look better) and without flash (without the annoying white spots but the colours look weird, and with a bonus Tre creeping in in the corner). Wow Sanne!! That is brilliant!! Really I love it!!
November's Storms Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 It's really good, love how many emotions it shows but they all represent the same negative feelings. If I had to do something for Panic Song my immediate idea would be to use less colour instead of more, but the colourful theme actually worked
Hermione Posted January 30, 2011 Posted January 30, 2011 That's amazing Sanne . Really great. I want it on my wall.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 ^ You must wake up very relaxed, if you wake up to this song Wow Sanne!! That is brilliant!! Really I love it!! It's really good, love how many emotions it shows but they all represent the same negative feelings. If I had to do something for Panic Song my immediate idea would be to use less colour instead of more, but the colourful theme actually worked That's amazing Sanne . Really great. I want it on my wall. Heh, thanks guys And oops Stephen, I accidentally posrepped your post instead of hitting multiquote. Yeah, my original idea was the letters being less coloured too, but my teacher didn't agree with that (as usual, haha), so I had to make them coloured, but it worked out better than I thought it would. Only downside is that it's a bit hard to read what it says if you don't know the lyrics back to le song...
November's Storms Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 And oops Stephen, I accidentally posrepped your post instead of hitting multiquote. I forgive you
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted January 31, 2011 Posted January 31, 2011 I forgive you Phew, that's a relief, I was afraid you'd be mad at me for raising your reputation.
