First time I listened to Deadbeat Holiday, I immediately noticed that it was like Mass Hysteria. Same with Jackass and WMUWSE. The guitar chords during the chorus are exactly the same. I hear alot of people saying that Static Age ripped off Church on Sunday. Anybody else notice that Church on Sunday has the exact same riff with the same timing as Sassafras Roots (but a half step higher)?

I hadn't really noticed anything, but my friend pointed out that Viva La Gloria! and Letterbomb are quite similar. I sort of see what he means. They're two of my favourite songs and that probably explains why

When me and my mum first listened to 21CB we thought Restless Heart Syndrome sounded like that "are you going to San Francisco" song. I don't quite know where that came from. I don't really see that anymore.

But yeah, I guess it happens with all music. There's only a certain amount of noises you can make.

Well, I don't know is it just me, but for me the song Drama Queen sounds a pretty similar to Why Does It Always Rain On Me by Travis. I realized this today! Interesting part is that Billie made a cover of that song in the early 2000's, when he recorded those phone messages for greenday.com. And I mean Drama Queen sounds similar to original version of WDIAROM, not his cover version of it.

Here's the videos, what's your thoughts?

Drama Queen:

Travis - Why Does It Always Rain On Me?

And here's Billies version of Why Does It Always Rain On Me:

i never noticed that one.... :pinch:

well, that's like those are the only ones that I sometimes confuse, and think it's actually Lights Out instead of Letterbomb that was starting, while listening to the Cast Album was the 1st time I noticed it, and I think that's where it's more noticeable! The drums are so so so similar =0

you're right! they're like exactly the same.

Yeah once I was listening to my iPod on shuffle and RG came on and where the lyrics came in I started to sing KYE.... I got so confused!!

Welcome to Paradise and Paper Lanterns are like the same, in the beginning aren't they?

Lights Out is very similar to the 1st bit of Letterbomb.

Yeah....

See what you mean

Yup

same rough-sounding guitar.

I recently figured out that the chorus of Deadbeat Holiday is like the verse of Mass Hysteria.

Thoughts?

i thought that too it's just the same at the beginning but i wasn't pretty sure about it ! :P

Sure nearly every chord on Insomniac is a retrograde of another, they're just played differently in each song.

That's true! I listened Insomniac yesterday and noticed that.

One of my close friends said that Letterbomb sounds like 86. I don't necessary buy into that.

I second this. Lyrically and Technically, lights out seems like an American Idiot track and Warning put together.

It's odd to me that it is 21CB era.

Also "Little Girl" and The Doors "Alabama Song" (Whiskey Bar) are very similar.

And the whole thing with the Gloria character and the doors song "Gloria" ...I think they listened to a lot of The Doors while recording.

Odd you say that, my close friend said that Misery and Alabama Song (Whiskey Bar) are similar.

I noticed the drum intro to Lights Out is the same as some of the drum parts in Letterbomb.

Also, the drum intro of Know Your Enemy is the same beat as the drum part for Extraordinary Girl.

Chorus of East Jesus Nowhere and the verse of Sally have the same chords; plus many songs starting from AI are really similar..I'm thinking about Holiday, Boulevard, and 21 Guns...perhaps it's difficult to understand by someone who doesn't play any instrument, but it's true. Holiday's chorus F C# G# Eb / F C# G# C ; Boulevard's chorus C# G# Eb F / C# G# C; 21 Guns' bridge Dm Bb F C / Dm Bb F A...to sum up, the same ending.

Yeah I barely play guitar, so.

I do play the drums, but they obviously don't have notes. :P

Yep. like, I can't figure out which one it is until 5 secs.

Yep.

It's just true punk chords :P

Don't if it's been mentionned, but Static Age and Church on Sunday are A LOT similar.

"If I promise to go to church on sunday..."

"In stereo in the static aaaaaage"

anyways.

Idk if that has something to do with it, but you know, punk in the beginning was like 3 chords...
