Edwood Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I just want an album with good music that sounds like the real Green Day I know. Is that too much to ask for? And what is the "real" Green Day? Green Day is a career band whose musical ambitions have always been closer to the likes of The Beatles, The Who, and The Clash, as opposed to The Ramones. The band is not here to please anyone but themselves. They believe in what they are doing, and that is the only thing that matters. I have been a Green Day fan for over 18 years now, and the one thing that I have learned is that the band is not interested in regressing as musical artists. Therefore, even though the new songs may appear to be more straightforward and energetic, they ultimately represent the continuing evolution of the band’s sound.
Sanity Loan Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I just want an album with good music that sounds like the real Green Day I know. Is that too much to ask for? I don't believe there is such thing as "real" Green Day. They haven't made the same album twice. Hell, none of their albums have sounded the same. I think the closet we can get is 1039 and Kerplunk - they sound similar. But nothing since then has sounded alike. .... But I think I know what you're getting at
PleasedToMeetMe Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I just want a straight up Green Day record. No rock opera or concept album. I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale.
kellista Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I just want a straight up Green Day record. No rock opera or concept album. I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale. I think another concept album might be okay, as long as its a different concept. You can only have so many sequels to the same album.
The Beatles Posted January 26, 2012 Posted January 26, 2012 I just want a straight up Green Day record. No rock opera or concept album. I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale. I got to agree, after having such blow out success with American Idiot, I was a little apprehensive to hear that 21st Century Breakdown was going to be another rock opera - let alone another album.

But it's not another rock opera though, is it? Green Day themselves have only ever called it a concept album, and as far as I can recall, never claimed that there is a storyline to 21st CB - just that the songs are all different 'images' of the time period they were written in or something like that (paraphrasing here, don't remember Billie's exact words).

I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale. See, I don't think it's the idea of the concept album that is getting "stale", it's what the concept is about. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown's concepts were different, but they releated to eachother in a way. They both had the feeling of anti-war and were (atleast somewhat) politically driven. If Green Day were to have a concept album that was way out there, something unexpected and never imagined, it would be fine. It's just that 21st Century Breakdown was almost too related to AI in the themes to be fully appreciated for it's concepts. That's how I feel about it.
Stephanie. Posted January 27, 2012 Posted January 27, 2012 I just want a straight up Green Day record. No rock opera or concept album. I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale. This is what I was trying to say! Thank you!

Vespertine Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 I just want a straight up Green Day record. No rock opera or concept album. I love American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown but that idea has gone stale. Well all I want is a good album with good music and decent lyrics, really. I couldn't care less whether it'll be a concept album or not
Satan Posted January 28, 2012 Posted January 28, 2012 Well all I want is a good album with good music and decent lyrics, really. I couldn't care less whether it'll be a concept album or not this. having a concept doesn't change the quality of the music.
charlatans&saints Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I'm not really concerned about what type of album they put out. I know Green Day won't put out an album that they haven't worked hard on and that they are not proud of. I was hoping they were going to have the new album ready by February/March, but as there is no word yet I can see that's not happening. I just hope the new album comes out soon, before I go to college and I'm around 300 miles from anywhere they would play.
OldWhatsHisFace Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I don't care when or how it's gonna be released as long as I know it's gonna happen, that's all that matters I just want it to be like the first 3 albums But it wont because of the lyrics, they won't be about what they were about.. But what I have heard, from like the Tikki Bar, they were awesome!
PleasedToMeetMe Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 Yeah the new songs are exactly was I hoping for. I can't wait to hear a studio version of 'Oh Love'.Yeah the new songs are exactly what I was hoping for. I can't wait to hear a studio version of 'Oh Love'.Sorry, didn't mean to repeat myself. Editing posts on my piece of shit phone is just not possible
LinziLetterbomb Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 If we get a new album this year...whether it be a rock opera or whatever...i will be happy!
pretty_and_demented Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I'm not gonna start worrying about the new album till Green Day gives the release date
Satan Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 ugh, they've been so quiet lately. The secret shows really spoiled me
pretty_and_demented Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 ugh, they've been so quiet lately. The secret shows really spoiled me Same Here but quite must mean they are hard at work
Fuzz Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 A couple messages to @GDA Anyone seen anything for these rumors to be running around?
Laura! Posted January 30, 2012 Posted January 30, 2012 I saw that too, but I looked all over on the internet and couldn't find anything. I asked someone where she found the info but haven't received a response yet.
Alan86 Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Wow I just searched "Green Day" on twitter and there are so many messages about them recording the new album, no one seems to know where the info came from though. I'll believe it when the band announce it.
farley drexel hatcher Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 Didn't it stem from Mike being at the NAMM show? One person he spoke to tweeted that he said they were 'working hard on the new album', and then another article said he was getting a bass shipped to their studio in Oakland where they were getting ready to begin recording.
Fuzz Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 That's definitely the newest info I know of. I wonder if some site picked up that story and other people are seeing it now...or what.
reckless Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 I think everything started because of this https://twitter.com/#!/IdiotNews4U/status/163876491984252928 Don't know where the news comes from but my timeline went crazy right after it.
Isabel Posted January 31, 2012 Posted January 31, 2012 ^ Yeah, that's where I read it last night. Is this IdiotNews4U twitter legit though? The fact that it says "@GDA even knows we exist and loves what we do!" makes me wonder
