Is Anyone Else Getting Tired Of ...

I can't believe I never even thought of the Green in Green Day as referring to the environment. Weird.

But It's not like I pay attention to any messages anyone tells me about the environment so I find it hard to care.

I always get annoyed SOOO FUCKING MUCH,

when my dumbass friends ask, "is Green Day an eco-friendly band?"

Asking that isn't really intimidating, just the face they make.

I don't see them eco-friendly, other than the charities they help with.

To add to how they aren't eco-friendly, just watch the American Idiot Music Video.

Tons of Green Water. Wasted. looks like it tastes pretty good.

I wouldn't say I'm necessarily getting tired of the boys being promoted as eco gods, but it is certainly something I've noticed. I think Adrienne has encouraged them to be more involved in environmental issues, which is great considering that they have such a profound influence on so many. Having said that, they don't seem to be overly concerned by the matter. They do the best they can do, and I will support them for that.

I'll tell you a little story... when Dawn met Billie Joe backstage at American Idiot with me, Toniann, Maryann, Shannon and Julia, Michael Mayer was there. He was standing with a bag from a pet shop. A person in our group asked him what he had gotten, and he told us that Billie Joe and Adrienne had just given him a set of eco-friendly doggie poop bags. He said that Billie and Adrienne were a little astonished that he used non-eco friendly (i.e. non bio-degradable) dog poop bags.

So, they do, in many ways, practice what they somewhat preach.

Personally, I'm not tired of it because they don't really talk about it too much, but they do endorse NRDC, which is a great organization. On the other hand, the Minority confetti, I hope, was all recycled paper...

Sorry... I was supposed to give a +1 to that, not a -1 =/:(

As many people said before, I don't think they're being promoted as a eco-friendly band.

I do think they care about the environment, but just like any other person that cares about it but maybe doesn't have the money to help organizations like NRDC.

I kinda agree with what you're saying, it does annoy me a little. I just don't think Green Day really care that much, yet they're being pushed out there as this mega eco-basher group who are spending loads of time trying to promote the earth or whatevs. And I don't think its what they're about.

But I don't really care, I suppose it should be seen as a good thing any publicity they get as helping the environment and all that. It just, in a way, puts me off when I see the press going on about how eco-friendly a band are. But they couldn't put me off Green Day, so its fine. I'm just rambling now.

I never got the impression they're being pushed as eco-friendly band... or not more than half the other bands or artists that exist are, anyway. They occasionally get a mention about being eco-friendly, but every half famous band/artist/person gets that. And it's not like they do nothing about/for the environment, so that occasional mention isn't a bad thing either.

So... I don't think they're being pushed out as a massive eco-friendly band, so I'm not annoyed by it either.

not bothered. :)

I don't think that they're really being pushed as an eco-friendly band. I've never really heard anyone saying that. I mean, they are a little bit, but then they do DO a little bit more than the average band. Yeah, they have huge tour buses and trucks and whatever but they sort of HAVE to, you know? If their priority is putting on the best live shows they can, then they need that sort of equipment, and I think that their excellence as a band is their highest priority.

That being said, they DO care about the environment. That thing in Rolling Stone just talked about their involvement with NRDC, which I think is great that the band did that, and they should be credited for doing that. The article thing didn't say anything that was an exaggeration or untruthful. There was a quote in that article from Mike, "You don't have to be an environmentalist to have an appreciation for clean water." That's basically what I'm trying to say. They're not hardcore environmentalists, but they do care for the environment and I think they should be credited for that.

The only thing that pisses me off is people misinterpreting the band name. But I'm really not bothered about the whole environment thing.

I totally agree with what you're saying. It doesn't really bother me what they get compared to, although I would be first to put anyone straight if they thought that the name Green Day was to do with being economic.

eco-friendly bands also have eco-friendly cd cases. They don't.

meh

haha, true. good point.

though wasn't the fbht album eco-friendly?

I don't remember.

I can see it happening, those eco-friendy packages are much cheaper than the normal cases. Perfect for low-key or thought-to-be low key artists

I wouldn't say tired because it doesn't really happen that often, but when it does I do find it a bit lame yeah . They put out a good eco friendly MESSAGE with their support for the NRDC and that's great, but I think describing them as eco friendly is a bit silly. Each one of them produces more carbon in a year than I will in my entire life not just with (mostly) unavoidable things like tour buses and private jets but also in their free time driving around in polluting classic cars and motorbikes etc. Nothing wrong with that, but describing them as eco friendly just isn't accurate.

It's not an issue that really concerns me. And; aren't all concerts 'pyrotechnically' harmful to the Earth? I don't think any kind of band could be economically friendly tbh. The NRDC thing is good I guess.

I'll just throw this in:

In June last year Billie was complaining about the BP oil spill or s/t [which really made me cringe idk stuff like that at concerts always does] and all the people in the mosh around me were like 'FUCK OFFFFFFF IT WAS AMERICA'S FAULTTT!!!!!' *middle fingers up*

I have not really thought about it. I guess they do their small bit like most people do without giving up their quality of life.

Yes it was eco friendly. I think they rereleased International Superhits in an eco friendly case. Hold on let me go check on GDA.

EDIT: Yep it was re released in an eco friendly case. Here is the GDA post about it: http://www.greendayauthority.com/news/1575/

I haven't really noticed them being promoted that much as "eco-friendly," they are a bit but not really, it's not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Green Day.

Posted

Besides seeing it on GDA that they won the award thingy...i haven't seen anything about there eco friendliness.

I honestly haven't really noticed them being "over-exposed" on the whole issue, but if they are or they do end up being the "eco-friendly band", its not necessarily a bad thing.

I highly doubt they will become that. But I look up to them and give them a lot of respect for speaking out about the environment. They are making a younger generation, that has maybe never thought of the issue of the environment, maybe at least curious about what their favorite band is active in, and possibly could get involved and make a difference.

Good idea for a thread tho

I used to get annoyed with this, but that was before 21st Century Breakdown. When 21st Century Breakdown came out I thought the "eco-friendly" label they had sort of went away. Maybe I just stopped noticing it after 21stCB because I was excited for another CD, finally. I dunno, I've definitely complained about it before, but not any time lately.

Well, I also see what you mean... don't think they're too invovled in this whole eco thing...idk They surely do care but not more than anyone else...idk =/

Posted

I think I heard Billie mention in an interview that his wife is more Green minded and he just kind of goes by that...so i guess in a way he's just pussy whipped

Funny as hell

this feed just reminds me of that pisstake green day forum "they're obviously environmentally friendly... why else would they have a name like that??"

it doesn't bother me too much. if people say they're really environmentally friendly i just say "errrrrm. no..."

I just like to think they are mindful of the environment, which is probably more effort than a lot of bands out there...

But Adrienne must be pretty into it...

But, I don't think that Green Day are advertising it wherever they go...
