Moffie Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 They could have pre-recorded it instead of using what was obviously the studio version, though. So did Hair and other Broadway shows for NYE. Why? Because it works for people who have never even heard of the show. They have two shows today, two shows tomorrow, fly call, rehearsals, the whole shebang and Billie is joining the cast. They don't have time and they have other stuff to do for paying audiences.

Optimistic Jesus Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 It's lip synced for sure. Skip to 1:30 and watch how hes magically singing with his mouth closed at the last second. It's pretty obvious. It's sad that they wear mics and still lip sync lol. Whats even sadder is how bad they are at faking it. Just saying :/.
Ellenkc Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 And they magically had time to pre-record on the Thanksgiving Day Parade? It's not that hard to understand, they had free time around Thanksgiving to pre-record and they didn't have enough free time to pre-record for last night.
in_your_face Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Not the best quality, but I found this on YouTube: Oh and the new Heather is really pretty! Actually, the whole cast look pretty great. thanks for posting it here.

Thanks so much for posting. It's nice to see the whole thing rather than the minute they showed in my part of the country!
Moffie Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 And they magically had time to pre-record on the Thanksgiving Day Parade? They didn't have a cast member leaving and re-teaching someone else that part before Thanksgiving unlike now. Plus, they get time for that because everyone for Thanksgiving tends to use a pre-recorded live track. And AGAIN, Broadway Casts tend to use the cast album version for NYE TV events. Look it up.
heyohbilliejoe Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 it is a bit unsettling to watch cos of the whole lip syncing thing, but i still think its really cool that they did it they definitely should have pre-recorded, but if they didn't have the time then oh well
Sanity Loan Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I had a dream last night that Green Day played the music while the cast sang. BUT, Billie was playing bass, Mike was playing drums, and Tre was playing guitar.... it looked a little weird I must admit By the way, I didn't get to watch this but I just watched the clip posted above now. And it sounds like they weren't singing... again. What is up with that???
HoneyDo666 Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 The acoustics are seriously bad outside...no one on the Macy's Day Parade sings live for that reason, they wouldn't be heard. I admit it could be better synced, but they are really busy people.
nimrod310 Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 It was cold and loud. Broadway shows sometimes have to do that in public performances. yeah but come on even people like Ke$ha and Nicki Minaj weren't lip syncing
Hermione Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 Yeah but musicals are a different thing to a standard singer/band performing, you can't compare the two. It's a totally different type of performance where it's more about the overall effect than whether it's being sung live. That's just the way musical songs are performed.
Of Rage and Love Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 I loved the way they did Holiday, no Representative of Jingletown part, but Theo at least had his own line xD

I suppose, but it doesn't make it any less disappointing. But they could have at least pulled another live pre-recording out and just not done a medley. That would've been better.

green day is Posted January 1, 2011 Posted January 1, 2011 yeah cause medlys suck! Medleys are cool depending on what it is.
jetsrule128 Posted January 1, 2011 Author Posted January 1, 2011 at least they could sing outside the st james go to 1:03
plaid ducky Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 By the way, my friend was there when they recorded the performance. They had sung it live at 7:30 and then played that performance at 11:30 with the lipsyncing. So when they performed originally they didn't have the music to lipsync to so no wonder the syncing was off. FWIW.
plaid ducky Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Here are the better versions of the performance. Apparently the second time around was what they aired:
Smoothed Out Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Overall I thought it was quite good, but not sure about the lip-syncing
bat-chen Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 at least they could sing outside the st james go to 1:03 They are so cute. Hetter sing the female and male parts like I do and poor finn, he wanted to sing! Here are the better versions of the performance. Apparently the second time around was what they aired: Thank for the video Are they really lip-sync? and why?!
dreaming Posted January 3, 2011 Posted January 3, 2011 Hey guys, I just cut the cast's part of performance from what was aired that night, and uploaded on megaupload. It's 720P, I don't think the quality really matches the size, but it's much better than youtube ones. And it's not convenient for me to upload it on youtube, so I wish someone can help me, if that's proper. If it's not allowed to post it here, please let me know!

Nice work, and I think it's fine to post here. I'll have my own HD clip with some audio enhancement uploaded soon. I think yours is going to win the size battle.
