jos_whatsername Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 wow, if cigs and vals wasnt stolen -or whatever it actually is- and american idiot wouldn't exist, i'd be a totally diffferent person, seriously. i would have never gotten into green day and my life would be less .. happy, i guess . edit : whoops the question is where green day would be
Axel Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Thats a bit rich coming from someone with 86 posts. Be a patronizing ass elsewhere >saying how many posts you have decides how big a fan you are >I've been a fan for almost 18 years.
November's Storms Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 >saying how many posts you have decides how big a fan you are >I've been a fan for almost 18 years. Maybe not but so much for humility. 18 years? Impressive, but it doesn't give you the right to think you're better than fans who're around since AI
anya. Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Where they would be it's hard to say.. but definitly no as high in music as they're now. They got many new fans during the American Idiot era, which probably wouldn't happen with the C&V album. C&V was stolen and that's the fact, God wanted it to be like that, and I hate questions what if..
November's Storms Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 C&V was stolen and that's the fact, God wanted it to be like that, and I hate questions what if.. Eh, what?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I don't know if it was the IC forum or the website itself, but back in 1999-2003 Billie Joe used to put out messages. Most of them talked about GD news and where they were at the moment, but amongst those they played a bunch of demos and three Christmas songs. They played What About Today, Things I Heard Today, Minnesota Girl, Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree, Santa Claus is coming to Town, The First Noel, and they also played a little bit of "Outsider" but I'm pretty damn sure it was just a shit-for-quality version of the studio version we have today. They also almost played Poprocks and Coke (before IS of course) but they didn't for a reason I can't remember. I could upload the zip file with all the messages, if you want. That's what I thought! And those were phone messages. And then I read some stuff on the internet and you said they weren't phone messages and I got confused and thought they came from some other place and source. But they are from those messages! Damn

Damn The messages themselves were from a phone, but the songs weren't. Quality is too good, even for the shit it was.
November's Storms Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 The messages themselves were from a phone, but the songs weren't. Quality is too good, even for the shit it was. Were the instruments in the song actually played by mike and tré?
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 The messages themselves were from a phone, but the songs weren't. Quality is too good, even for the shit it was. Yeah, but it came from the same "series". I thought you also meant they were from an entirely different something.
green day is Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 Were the instruments in the song actually played by mike and tré? Not in Minnesota Girl, that was just Billie and an acoustic (and may very well have been a phone recording) but the others all had bass and drums which I assume were played by their respective members. It would make the most sense. Yeah, but it came from the same "series". I thought you also meant they were from an entirely different something. Yeah.
Hermione Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I still find it doubtful that the songs were played in the phone. They were too good quality for phones. Try playing through an amp onto a phone sometime. Pretty sure they were. This was 2001 when the internet wasn't as huge as it is now so doing something like that wouldn't have seemed so ridiculous then. Billie's said he didn't even own his first computer until 2005 . He phoned from his house and left a message every week or so, and played the songs down the phone.

P3AC3MAK3R Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I think they wouldnt have the understanding and wouldnt be as careful as they are now. Unfortunately it happened but they definately learnt a lesson over it
Eeefaa. Posted December 17, 2010 Posted December 17, 2010 I'm not sure... but they probably wouldnt be my favourite band. Sure I love their stuff now, but if you compare the song C&V with the song American Idiot... for me, there is no comparison. American Idiot is just a much better song for me. I just love that entire album, I love it's style, I love every single song. While I really like their "unreleased" songs right now I know deep down its because I cant fault anything they do now.

He probably posted those few from somewhere else or something, because there is now way in hell those were recorded in a phone. Not these day, and especially not in the early 2000's. Oh sorry no i was talking about the christmas songs they recorded I'm not sure if there were drums and bass in those.... Never really listened.
November's Storms Posted December 18, 2010 Posted December 18, 2010 I'm not sure if there were drums and bass in those.... Never really listened. There were drums, I can hardly hear bass anyway, forget about over a phone
Vaso.Of.Suburbia Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Well this is a question that has no answer... But thank God, somebody "stole" the master tapes (did somebody really stole them or the guys wanted to make them disappear, nobody knows)... And then, we had American Idiot
SetOnOverdrive Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 Can we change the title to "Stolen" (With quotations)
Insomniac186 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I don't believe they were stolen for a second. Albums get scrapped all the time. When they wrote the "American Idiot" song they ended up getting on a creative high and decided to start over. How do you explain the track "Favorite Son", which was not recorded for American Idiot yet was produced by Rob Cavallo (I doubt they went and recorded just one song), and how about all of the American Idiot B-Sides that weren't even produced by Cavallo or the same studio personnel, it was the crew that recorded the Network album. There are many, many, many holes in the story. Also, remember that Billie Joe once said that "Too Much Too Soon" was supposed to be on C&V. I've said all this before. Regardless, I would still be a Green Day fan if it came out, I have been a fan since Dookie.

With your logic, we could say that songs like Scumbag, You Lied, and a bunch of others were supposed to be on albums that were scrapped. I agree with your ideology, but your reasoning sucks.

green day is Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Where did you get this info from? There was a radio interview where Billie Joe mentioned Too Much was going to be on C&V. I'm not really feeling like tracking it down right now, but I'm sure someone else could do it.
November's Storms Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 I was talking more about knowing how the Network crew did the C&V album. Personally I think that whole post was just bullshit

Insomniac186 Posted December 22, 2010 Posted December 22, 2010 Favorite Son is about George Bush. Y'know, kinda why it was on the "Rock Against Bush" compilation. With your logic, we could say that songs like Scumbag, You Lied, and a bunch of others were supposed to be on albums that were scrapped. I agree with your ideology, but your reasoning sucks. The 2004 tour program shows the list of songs they recorded inside the studio during the recording sessions for American Idiot, including the intro that they scrapped. Billie Joe even said somewhere that they recorded all the songs in order, except for "When It's Time" which was done separately with Rob Cavallo. Favorite Son has a different mix and overall sound that differs from the American Idiot album. And if you read the lyrics to the song, it isn't specifically about Bush although it can be interpreted that way. If it is about Bush, that doesn't necessarily mean it has to be from American Idiot since he was in office when they recorded C&V, so it could still be about Bush and not be from the American Idiot recording sessions. All you have to do is read the studio personnel credits. If they were all recorded at the same time, they should all be the same, right? All the Dookie, Insomniac, and Nimrod B-Sides have the same credits as their respective albums, Warning does not because they were recorded during a separate session at Catbox studios. The credits for American Idiot (minus the producer for Favorite Son) and the 21CBD B-sides were fully recorded at Studio 880 in Oakland, while the albums themselves were mostly recorded at Ocean Way Studios in LA. Call BS all you want, but the credits don't lie. Perhaps they aren't from C&V, they could have recorded the songs for simply no reason other than because they were written and wanted to have them on record.
