in_your_face Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 pretty interesting read. Calling American Idiot 'weird synth crap' is like saying Taylor Swift is a rapper. i laughed soo hard at that!!
711_Disciple Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 There's a difference between staying true to your roots and being completely irrelevant. As someone already mentioned (just read through this whole thread pretty quickly, sorry), the demographic of their fans changed completely between "waves" of their popularity, so to speak. And not only that, but culture changed, America as a whole changed. Personally something I love about Green Day is that they had the balls to step up and say something about what was going on (be it media culture, the wars, political squabbling) rather than ignoring it and reverting to their self-centered teen-angst songwriting. Excuse Billie Joe for being able to see past the end of his own nose and address something bigger that was going on. Do I love Green Day's early stuff? Absolutely, because I can relate to a huge portion of it. But because I've decided to make an effort to be a more informed person, to know what's going on in the world, I can also relate to American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown immensely. Saying that Green Day needs to stay in the 90s says a lot about the author and his worldview, IMO.
Lost Dog Posted January 11, 2011 Posted January 11, 2011 well this guy has probably never hear the word evolution people get older and of course they change.....green day didn't become worse (you can see that at their lyrics, the things they care about, the music and so on...) they just changed.. i think it's great to be part of the process as a fan of the music and maybe you can develop together with it and love the old stuff and also the newer stuff....but if you don't like it anymore it might be sad but this is how it is and it's not the band's fault.....green day didn't become any stupid conservative idiots or something like that....:D whatever..:DD
