AnnA™ Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 It's not that strange really, if you think about it. As they've gotten older they've wanted to try out new things and put a lot of effort into everything. There's no reason to rush things, it'll have to take a while. They have their families and after a lot of touring they deserve some time off. It may take a few years 'til a new album, but I'm sure they'll be keeping busy in the meantime, to make it worth all the wait. I wouldn't say they're slow making music. With these last albums and all their other projects and bands I think they're just working harder, which takes a bit longer.
Guest Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I only can agree on what you all said, they need time to make fantastic records and that's normal. And I recognized this: 1994: dookie + 1 year 1995: Insomniac + 2 years 1997: nimrod + 3 years 2000: Warning + 4 years 2004: american idiot + 5 years 2009: 21st Century Breakdown + 6 yers 2015: ? after dookie the time of making a record always increased of 1 year, but I hope it won't last til 2015, I think they will release a new record in 2012 or 2013 I think this is right, why don't lack more money for them
BadgerLALA Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 You can't rush creativity. So true. And remember the guys got a life outside the band.
unexplainedbacon Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 So true. And remember the guys got a life outside the band. yeah, they have to have a balance and the guys do a great job of doing so much for the fans and knowing that family matters.
Maddy. Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 yeah they suck so much now no one knows who they are no but seriously I think this is right, why don't lack more money for them you what?
Blood Sam and Booze Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 From the year Green Day formed, 1987, to 1989, Green Day (Sweet Children) released one EP. 1000 Hours. From 1990 to 1999, Green Day released, 2 EPS, and 5 Studio albums, (Slappy, Sweet Children EP, 39/Smooth, Kerplunk, Dookie, Insomniac, Nimrod) From 2000 to 2010 - Green Day only released 3 studio albums. Warning, American Idiot, 21'st Century Breakdown) Also, I'm not counting compilation albums and live albums, since no real new material is released. Also, even on the Shenanigans compilation, most songs were recoded in the 90's. So does anyone have any ides why Green Day seems to be slowing down? If they keep it at this rate they won't be very very popular in a few years, Who gives a rat's ass about the popularity they achieve...that's not what music is about... Green Day as individual members are getting older and are 'maturing'...For what it's worth, they seem to be on a pretty steady track. When bands first start out, they produce albums like crazy...they want to have everybody hear it, they want to have shows, they want to get head first into the lifestyle they have always dreamed about...But as they age, they have families they must be with, issues they must get thru, and personal problems that come up. Creating an album takes a lot of time, especially when they also have the musicals they put out. More time touring equals less time for production of a new album.
YehItsRyan Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I reckon it will be middle of 2012 for a new album, next year is far too early to even consider one. There will be more news as next year progresses, and by this time next year we will probably have a pretty solid idea of when they next album will be released.
-Billiejoezee- Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 Cause they're getting old and it takes them a bit to get to the studio yaknow? No but seriously. I think they're just slowing down because they tour more, and they do more extra stuff. And because they want to move foward and make better music. And better music takes time. Has anyone seen the pattern between the album releases though? Here I'll write it down. It's a bit similar to the OP but different aswell. 139/Sosh (90) - kerplunk (92): 2 years Kerplunk (92) - dookie (94) : 2 years Dookie (94) - insomniac (95): 1 year Insomniac (95) - nimrod (97): 2 years Nimrod (97) - warning (00): 3 years Warning (00)- American idiot (04): 4 years American idiot (04)- 21st century breakdown (09): 5 years So would the next album be 21st century breakdown (09)- ? ('15): 6 years? I hope not.
pasalaska Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 When I spoke to Jason Freese in Canada he said the next album wouldnt take as long as 21CB did. fear not, GDCers. Jason has spoken.

-Billiejoezee- Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 well maybe you shouldnt have put the rock there in the first place no worries Tre put it there. He said it was gonna even out my shoulders.
Killian1212 Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 well they do have other commitments like a family! i think people should give them a break, theyre only home from a pretty kick ass tour and now people have been giving out cos the new album wont be for a while! give them a break!!! to many they may only be 'Green Day' but theyre people and have lives outside music. id rather wait ten years for an awesome album thats so much better than expected than have one coming out at christmas thats only have the qualilty and isnt that good. give them a break, the wait will be worth it
CamCam Posted December 2, 2010 Posted December 2, 2010 cos they put a lot of care into their work, plus theyll always be popular with us so i dont care who else likes them really, in fact i liked them when they wernt popular
