jensername Posted December 7, 2010 Posted December 7, 2010 I love his vocals from all eras of time. It has changed, but it sounds amazing on every album.
darenmay Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 i think billie's vocals can be distinguished from 3 different eras: kerplunk, dookie, and AI/21stCB. versus the transition of the vocals from Dookie to AI i think can be best heard in Redundant. it's like a mixed-up of those two distinct vocals.
Boston Posted December 10, 2010 Posted December 10, 2010 I love his voice on every album, because, as was said in the first post, it matured with the music and therefore his vocal style on each album fits with the style and maturity of the album. 21CB is not my favorite album for any instrument or vocal sound because of its production quality. They need to go back to Robbie boy.
CamCam Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 i love his rawness and ragged voice he does live on songs like american idiot, especially the 'aaaaaaaaaaalllllllriiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiite!' which is so amazing he really has a beautiful voice and i like all his styles, but its funny how he changes it half way through live shows for the old stuff which i think i like just that little bit more
Red Lights Flash Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 Yeah, I like the AI era, everything he sings on that album actually sounds like a bold statement, even in the ballads. 21stCB might be a little too soft-sounding (on the album, his voice live is still AI-style I think)
HoneyDo666 Posted December 11, 2010 Posted December 11, 2010 21CB...it's actually a voice, his range is gorgeous. I don't think the vocals were given their due before AI. He sounds better live now than he ever has. When he doesn't push it, it's heavenly <3
nikki0995 Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 His older albums i think his vocals were alot different. But in 21st century breakdown i dont this his vocals were over produced because i saw him in concert during the summer and he sounds the same way he did in his albums. I personally like 21st century breakdown, his newer albums becuase thats how i really got introduced to green day. but im started to like his vocals in their older albums. its a tough call def a hard question to answer.
Guest Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 i love his voice now, it's beautiful live which is what is important. he's always had a great voice but he's really improved as a singer over the years.
The Platypus! Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I don't really have a favourite, but I would say now but only because live it sounds really good with old and new songs.
bluejoberry Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 every album has its specific climate. Billie's voice on every record sounds different too. for example, compare Dookie and Insomniac. in a way, they're different. it is normal that for kinda much mature songs he has to sing in a different way. but after all I don't like the way he sings nowadays. it's too... ehm, let's say too high for me. nimrod an American Idiot are the best times for him.. for his voice. XD it's unavoidable that his voice changes. sometimes in a good way and sometimes not.
addictedjamie Posted December 12, 2010 Posted December 12, 2010 I like being able to hear so understand the vocals, which makes AI better for me. His voice has got better.
Marki. Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 That video in the opening post is one of my favourites I like Billie's voice on every album. It's a little bit different in each one, but it's always Billie - it always has that special sound that I can't really define, that always makes me all amdnqhč;hfrqjavn He has such an unique and beautiful voice, you can never confuse it with someome else.
Boston Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 After reading this thread, I've been listening to songs from different eras and comparing them a bit. Aside from the differences I've noticed, its been kind of cool listening to the songs with a purpose and without singing along. Focusing to Billie's voice kind of gave me that thrilled feeling that I got seeing him preform live this summer. Its always wonderful to rediscover music.
21st century idiot Posted December 13, 2010 Posted December 13, 2010 I can'rt decide i like his voice on most of the albums
Isabel Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I love his vocals from the earlier days, they match all of that raw emotion compiled from those wonderful songs.
Vespertine Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 His voice has always been amazing, really. I guess people think his voice has improved due to the fact that in their old songs, it wasn't really "explored" a lot.
green day is Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I never thought about that.I guess between Dookie and Nimrod.I don't know why but I like his vocals during these eras more. You mean Insomniac XD Also, my favorite vocals are both The unique ones on Brain Stew, with the slurring and odd pronunciation that somehow made "delirium" and "dull" rhyme and the Longview demo, which is better than the studio version, IMO.
annimaria Posted December 14, 2010 Posted December 14, 2010 I prefer his vocals on AI and 21stCB, but I do love his sound on the earliest albums, his voice fits the songs, they're young and fast, and that's what his voice sounds like aswell if that makes any sense.
LinziLetterbomb Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I think his voice sounded great in Warning, especially Jackass! And Nimrod too, but i do have to agree that he sounds overproduced in 21CB. His voice seems to be getting more powerful all the time though. http://http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XDK0BrqTQAw
IlariaIDIOT Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I really don't know which I prefer. I love his younger, youthful voice though I think he does sound better these days with a more mature, clean voice. More perfected in a way. It just depends on what mood I'm in, but I love his voice no matter what, there's something about it...
beejeezee Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Personally I love his voice no matter what. Something about it just, I don't have a word to explain. Like in American Idiot. On some songs like American Idiot, parts of Jesus Of Suburbia, St. Jimmy. his voice has a hard edge to it. While in songs like Boulevard Of Broken Dreams, Give Me Novacaine, Whatsername. It's more smooth. 21st Century Breakdown, in my opnion, is the album that really shows how beatiful of a voice he has. From Song Of The Century to See The Light. Going from Dookie to 21st Century Breakdown was like going from drinking nothing from water all your life then all of a sudden getting completetly wasted. Just a "holy fuck!" moment for me. iViva La Gloria!, Restless Heart Syndrome, 21 Guns. I've never felt the need to say it but, he has the voice of an angel. Like the end of 21st Century Breakdown, just beatiful still with that hard edge to it. And Working Class Hero. If Billie's voice could have gotten any more gorgeous I wouldn't have believed it until I listened to this. Thw first time I listened to it I swear I had goosebumps. If anyone understood what I just wrote congrats for you
toomuchtoosoon Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 Honestly, I think I like his vocals from Nimrod the best. That was really a transitional record to the newer style. His voice retains the really good, semi-out of control punch it had from before, but it also has a lot more clarity as well. Actually, when I stop to think about it, it's amazing how much his vocal style (and the band's style) changed between Insomniac and Nimrod. There's only a two year difference between the two.
Sanity Loan Posted March 3, 2011 Posted March 3, 2011 I like AI/21CB vocals more than anything... more vocal range. And he can either make it soft and soothing or hard and edgy with a bit of "scream-o" in there. Its great.
