Of Rage and Love Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 My favorites are: Jesus of Suburbia Hoiday St Jimmy She's a Rebel Letterbomb Homecoming Not that the others are bad or anything, but the rest are either overplayed or not my favorites. So I'm going with non single songs.
accountdeleted1203 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I love the album american idiot, the lyrics are so awesome and the music is amazing Jesus of Suburbia means so much more than you first think Are we the waiting & St jimmy are epic Homecoming is such a good song to listen to American Idiot is awesome Letterbomb is one of the best Every single song on the album single or non single means something different to me and changed my way of seeing things, and in a way changed my life XD XD My favourite is probably homecoming or jesus of suburbia XD
Cameron. Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I personally do prefer the non-album singles over the singles in general. I love Letterbomb, St Jimmy, Homecoming, She's a Rebel, Whatsername, and I adore Are We The Waiting. But then again, I love American Idiot, Holiday, and Jesus of Suburbia. I also like BOBD, and WMUWSE is tolerable, but you have to understand why these songs were chosen for singles and why they were so popular. Think - American Idiot is a direct in your face hard anthem blasting through the radio airwaves bashing the very own country it's being played in. And same goes for Holiday, except it's bashing our ideas of war. Then you have BOBD - the insanely popular song that makes some Green Day fans sick to their stomach when they hear because it's just played so damn much. It's seems as if it's written just for radio play; it's definitely the most radio friendly song on the entire album. It's slow, it's catchy, and fans related to it. And same with the other singles. Not to mention, the use of profanity in the songs, I mean kids loved the idea of listening to music that said "fuck, fag, retarded, shit," etc. I mean come on, you were only cool if you listened to music with that kind of language. So for me, I'd personally choose the non-album singles. But from the standpoint of the general masses - the singles are better because they're easy to relate to, they're fun, and you can sell yourself as the "biggest Green Day fan EVURRRR" because you like those songs.
Kayfabe Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 No. I think they are all pretty much equally as powerful but some like American Idiot and Bobd are way more easy to sell.
Hermione Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 There's only a couple of songs on AI that aren't ten out of ten brilliant. So with SO many amazing songs on there, they couldn't all be singles. All the singles are amazing, most of the non singles are equally amazing, and they didn't pick any of the slightly weaker songs as singles - a job well done I think out of all their albums they made the best single choices with AI. Looking at their great AI single choices next to the shambles that is their lame 21st CB single choices, there's no comparison!
ReturnTo86 Posted November 26, 2010 Posted November 26, 2010 I like the singles just the same as the non-singles, although homecoming is my favourite song off of AI. I think why people prefer 'the non singles' is because they dont hear them as much as the singles (you know with being played on the radio etc all the time). I for one got bored of BOBD when it was realeased as i heard it like everyday, but now i only hear it once in a blue moon and get all awwww over it. (its getting late and im trying my best to make some sense here )
jos_whatsername Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 I think every single song on american idiot is brilliant and amazing because the whole record is just a masterpiece. but i also think they did a good job picking those songs for singles, who are most likely to be loved by a huge amount of people and not only by green day's fans. are we the waiting for example is one of my favourite songs and i really love it but i cant imagine it being played on the radio or on mtv, you know? its just.. they need to think of what the whole world is gonna like, especially people who usually dont listen do green day. and with BOBD and holidaay for example, they took the most catchiest songs and there was no doubt about them becoming big hits.
vegandrone Posted November 28, 2010 Posted November 28, 2010 It depends on what songs are released as singles in most cases but with American Idiot I like the non-singles better.
Guest Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 the whole album is great, but the songs that were released as singles are just as good as the rest of the album, just a bit overplayed now. but they were perfect songs to release as singles to get people interested in the album. i'm pretty sure the main reason why 21cb isn't as popular as american idiot is because they chose some of the worst songs on the album (at least in my opinion) to release as singles, so people just kind of wrote it off.
mechanicalman Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 If Jesus Of Suburbia was a single then your argument is ruined.
Holly Ann Posted November 29, 2010 Posted November 29, 2010 In my opinion, they're all as good as each other. But with singles, they're played A LOT. So they seem to loose tune. But when you listen to the other songs on the album, you don't know them inside out; so they sound better. That's why pop music moves along so quickly, because it's shoved in your face at every angle.
