E!!i Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 OH SHIT HERE COMES JOSIE. YYEESSS FINALLY PULLING TEETH so long of voting for it hundreds of times. but unfortunately it's not "Broken Bones & Nasty Cuts" I loved this song before but now I realized how awesome this song really is. I almost cried when I read about that song. And it was so awesome when Billie played it in Mainz. Most people must have thought "what the fuck is this?" and I thought at first that it's Burnout I'm dumb I know but then a few seconds later I realized that it's Pulling Teeth. Now I even love this song more than before. God, I have to listen to it.
Katarina. Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Wow, J'net, what made you decide to use Pulling Teeth.. while nobody nominated it? Ahaha. I love this song, the music and lyrics are great. Especially the music. Just the beginning.. Ah, whenever I hear this song coming up on my iPod, I can't press the next song button, I have to let the song finish. I love it. It's one of my favorites off Dookie as well!
whatsername343 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 It was so freaking amazing live *_* I completely freaked out because I love this song so much
Princess Consuela Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Thanks for choosing this song and this particular video, J'net! This was totally unexpected and even though I was calling for 'Paper Lanterns' when Billie came back for the acoustic encore, I was absolutely thrilled when I realised what whe was playing. It made this show even more special
grlcalledkill Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 This is one of my favorites from Dookie. I love to sing this one on GD Rock Band. My husband is a dental hygienist so whenever it comes on I say "it's your song!" even though he doesn't pull teeth intentionally. The recording you posted is great quality. I would love to have an all acoustic Green Day album. I suppose we might get something like that when the live album & dvd come out since there was a good variance of acoustic encore songs. I think this particular song showcases one of Green Day's great gifts of taking an unpleasant subject and making it sound happy or positive. I love their ability to lighten my mood, even if it's by getting my bad thoughts "out" of my head when I'm screaming F.O.D. I always end up feeling better..
Punx89 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Pulling teeth is one of my favorites dookie songs.I like the lyrics and the music soooo much
Nimrod2309 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 This has always been my favorite track from Dookie. I can't believe how many people think it's JUST ok. Pulling Teeth is a little jewel. It has always reminded me of the film Misery, with the twist that the person in this song loves his "captor". It is a love song, the upbeat melody represents that perfectly. But it's a love song with lyrics about the dysfunctional love which so many people experience but no one ever bothers to write songs about. No one except, that master of social commentary, Billie Joe Armstrong. It always amazes me how much Billie can say in two and a half minutes. I had never heard the back story about this song before I read it here. It will be interesting to find out if knowing who the song is actually about will affect how it makes me feel when I listen to it from now on. I always knew it wasn't autobiographical(not sure how I knew, just had a feeling). I'm so impressed with Billie Joe's insightfulness at age 21! I'd love to get into that mind of his and have a look around! One particular lyric seems so poignant to me: “Looking out my window for someone that's passing by. No one knows I'm locked in here; all I do is cry.” I think many people feel this way every day – that they’re locked inside themselves and no one recognizes that or notices. They go through life pretending that everything’s okay when it really isn’t. You could say they have a bouncy tune, but if you listen to their lyrics, you’ll find them quite dark. Lyrically and musically, my favorite part of the song. J'net, I think you are spot on with this interpretation. Also, thanks for the video link....though I enjoyed watching it, I prefer the original version. It is just too heartbreakingly sad this way. I would LOVE to hear the whole band play the non-acoustic version live.

sampy Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I like this song pretty much, I used to listen to it quite a lot this past summer.
bollard_11 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I always hear an Anchorman reference in this song When Billie sings "I better tell her that I love her" I always think he is saying the line "I love lamp". Listen to the song tell me if you hear it too But seriously this is one of my favourite songs off Dookie
Nitza_martinez Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 i loved this song as soon as i heard it. somethin bout it was just....ummmm...ooo hard 2 explain

Bastard of 1967 Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 We havent had a song from Dookie in a while, so even though NO ONE wants it, this weeks Song of the Week is Pulling Teeth. Please use this thread to discuss your thoughts and feelings about the song. . . . Billie was inspired to write this song when Mike broke both his arms in a pillow fight (with his then wife). The story goes that Billie and Mike laughed all the way to the hospital. . . . I'll leave you with four little words for now: PILLOW FIGHT, MY ASS!! :eyebrow: Will be back with more substantive thoughts about the song later when I have more time to write.
GDJonny Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 Having this as my least favourite Dookie song sounds weird because its a great song! It's just that Dookie in general is so good
ThisIsNotNora Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I love this song I listened to it all summer haha. I remember the first time I heard it. I laughed so hard, my dad got an headache
colour_me_stupid_ Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I remember going absolutely MAD when I heard the guys played it in Mainz, I was so jealous I still am really, cause this is definately my favourite song off Dookie and pretty close to my favourite Green Day song in general
Isabel Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 I always wondered whether that crack about Mike breaking both his arms was true. Guess it is
-Billiejoezee- Posted November 23, 2010 Posted November 23, 2010 but unfortunately it's not "Broken Bones & Nasty Cuts" Pfft screw that song. This ones better. I'm gonna write my essay for this thread after I'm done eating, but I'd like to say a few things before: THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU J'NET. for paying attention to my cries for pulling teeth. and thank you everyone who started voting for it aswell. it really means alot to me that this is song of the week. I'd see all these songs up here and wonder "why isn't pulling teeth up there?" and I just needed to do something about it. It makes me SO DAMN HAPPY that this song is FINALLY getting the credit and love it deserves. It's the best green day song (in my opinion) and it makes me happy that there's a thread for it now because now I can see what everyone loves about it and I can finally realize that I'm not the only one inlove with it. actually maybe I'm the only one that has licked the PT lyric page on dookie. :eyebrow: Oh and I just finished listening to it. It's my daily routine needs to be the first song I hear. I remember going absolutely MAD when I heard the guys played it in Mainz, I was so jealous I still am really, cause this is definately my favourite song off Dookie and pretty close to my favourite Green Day song in general I almost hanged myself. I was really going bonkers.
