anya. Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 amm, i don't care that much.. whatever it is, just quick please, 'cause i don't feel like waiting 4 years and a half again
Rosie May Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 I can't imagine it being like their older stuff, it would just feel as though they were moving backwards as a band I'm the same. I don't think they should "go back to their roots" because I think if they did it would just sound forced and there's not much point in trying to recreate something that they already did really well the first time. I don't they should do another concept album either, sort of for the same reason, AI and 21cb worked really well, but I think they need to move on to something different now.
Hermione Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 Green Day moves forwards not backwards. They're not going to go back in time. I dont where some of you people are getting this, "going back to roots" quotes. The only quote I remember was Billie, which I think he was kidding, saying the next album will be a Foxboro Hottubs influenced opera. Once again, I think he was kidding. It's because a while ago Billie mentioned being at the very beginning of starting to write new stuff, being "back to the basics" of starting to think about a new album. Some crappy article decided to take the quote totally out of context and pretended he said the next album would be going back to their roots. Because of stupid articles like that people think the band's told us things about the new material when really they haven't. So yeah Billie never said they'll be going back to their roots on the next album. It's false information. All he said was they were at the beginning of writing new material - he said nothing about what the material will be like.
farley drexel hatcher Posted November 21, 2010 Posted November 21, 2010 He has said many things about how he would like to do things in passing but that doesn't mean they will. He's said he would like to merge Green Day and the FHT sounds on a few occasions, though. I know most recently he has said about having the new album be a 'celebration' or something like that. I dunno if I can see another concept album in that there are obvious characters, though.
NickD Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I think the next album will have common links throughout the album linking song to song, but I don't think it will be a full blown conceptual album. Billie Joe is too good of a writer to write simple songs at this point of his and their career. I think they've noticed some backlash towards Breakdown, from people thinking that they only wrote a concept to keep their American Idiot popularity, which will lead them to try to write a "normal" record with common themes throughout it all
biwic Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't think it will be. I think the album might have a theme of some sort, but I doubt it's going to be another story. At least one not so serious.
-Billiejoezee- Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 If it's another concept album: http://i56.tinypic.com/2uhmmgj.png http://i52.tinypic.com/al6zit.jpg http://i56.tinypic.com/2ivgu1z.jpg Damn jill how I wish I can 1+ this. But I'm on mobile. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ my thoughts: I don't give a flying fuck what they do. I just don't wanna wait another 5 damn years. Plus, I love everything so even if the album did suck, eventually I'm gonna love it. Didn't billie say it was gonna have alot of tubbies influence? I'm sure it's gonna be good.
Tiffx Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm hoping it's not another concept album to be honest. Something similar to Warning would be fucking amazing.
Burnout98 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I hope that Green Day don't make another concept album because it will be like, oh no not again... but i would love it to be something like Insomniac or even Nimrod. But i support Green Day in everything they do, even if i don't like it.
Zero. Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I feel like it will be both.... I know it makes no sense, but I feel it would be like warning with a few songs like East Jesus Nowhere... but who knows really?
keefe Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Dookie on steroids with a twisted love plot mixed into the lyrics, subliminal messaging with big stadium rock sound but totally simplified, either way I'm going to enjoy the fuck out of it!
Desensitized09 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't think that they can re-create their Dookie sound, even if they wanted to. Our boys have evolved musically and it's really hard to go back to something like that 15 years later. Whatever the next album is, I'm sure we'll love it because we're devoted to our band! "Green Day is like sex. When they're good, they're good, and if they're bad, they're still pretty damn good!!" Lol that's my thought on that
Fuzz Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Green Day moves forwards not backwards. They're not going to go back in time. I'd argue that they went back in time for 21CB. The style of it is not that different than American Idiot. Sure it was different, it wasn't an exact replica, but I still think very relate-able. I hope we hear more stuff like Cigs & Valentines. I don't mind the story-arc of AI and 21CB, I just think they don't necessarily add anything extra to the album since they've already been done. I want some of those songs from the heart that talk about their lives from a personal point of view. Yes, i realize we still get that in the new stuff - but it's distorted through this view of the world from the characters eyes. Less so on 21CB, but I think there was just less story overall in 21CB. I prefer the music where the individual songs tell a story, not an individual part of the story. Those songs, I feel, have more meaning to invididuals.
jacknovella Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I'm really hoping for a non-concept album with more of their old sound I loved American Idiot because it was different, and 21st Century Breakdown was great but I dont think it was as bold as American Idiot, and like others have said if they go for another concept album it might wear a little thin. Not to say that it would'nt be a great record, but I'd much rather hear something like their older stuff.
fadi_7 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I don't think that they can re-create their Dookie sound, even if they wanted to. I can't remember where this quote comes from, but I'm rewording it. "Green Day is like sex. If it's great, it's great, and if it's bad, well it's still pretty damn good!" Lol that's my thought on that that quote is from mike dirnt lol
Alan86 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 "Stay the night" sounds very like the style of the songs on kerplunk, and "dreamcatcher" is more nimrod/warning style, those two songs might at least give some indication of the direction of the new album. Then again those songs might not even make it on to a new album. I don't think it will be a concept album but if it is I think they'll leave the political and religious themes out and focus on completely different topics.
Francois Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I can't imagine another Green Day concept album. Personally, I also hope that it's not a concept album, but I wouldn't mind if it was.
E!!i Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I think they won't do another concept album but I also don't think that they would do something like the older albums. I think it will be something like maybe american idiot, speaking about the sound not the story but I don't really know what to expect. EDIT: yeah, I know this message isn't really a statement and doesn't say anything
Desensitized09 Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 that quote is from mike dirnt lol DAMN! How did I not know this?! >.< Major fail on my part! Thanks
kods (: Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I wouldn't mind another concept album, I quite like the idea of listening to the album and working out the story and stuff. But I personally hope they don't do a concept album, just a wee change would be nice.
CzechIdiot Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 Haha, new warning would be awesome, but I think something new would be also cool . But y know, Its Green Day, It´ll be totally amazing!!
Kilgores Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 I hope we can hear something from C&V how Andres said, but I don't mind a concept album, if the whole album is little bit stronger than 21st CB
TaylorKlinke Posted November 22, 2010 Posted November 22, 2010 No, I don't want another concept album. American Idiot was awesome but it's time to move onto something else new Can't wait to hear what they come up with!

I agree with that, for those who think they couldn't write in the same style as Dookie, She is the best character song he's ever written , they've had character songs like The Grouch and Misery also so nothing wrong with character songs, Bruce Springsteen has made a career out of them and he's basically the best rock star the world has ever seen. But none of his albums are really about the one character so maybe they could take a leaf out of his book.
