Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 The title from the article is kind of misleading, as well. Like they wrote all their songs drunk or something. And it sounds generally quite bad.
xjernpqvrnbfv Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I never got the impression they were drunk live
Alan86 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 As an Irish person I'm more proud of them than ever "to alcohol the cause of and solution to all of lifes problems"
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I'm not sure how I feel about it. I don't think I like it, but then again, I fucking LOVE their live shows... So, I guess if that's what they do, it works.
Laura! Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I don't think they go on a drinking spree before shows. They just don't look all that drunk to me. Yeah, they probably have a few drinks, but I don't think they have enough to make them completely drunk. I'm sure a lot of bands drink before going on stage.
Empty Laughter Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 If they still go on stage drunk so their inhibitions are gone, it's pretty fucked up. I wouldn't be proud of admit something like that, I mean... need drinks to make things better it's just.. not right for me :/
Lindsay Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 This kind of saddens me to be honest. If you get to the point where you have to rely on alcohol to put on a good show... I just don't know.
justcause Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Given the energy of their shows, I'm sure most of that would be burned off pretty fast.
Abstractication Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I'm sure a lot of bands drink before going on stage. Yeah that's what I was going to say. At least a lot of the bands I've see around here drink/are drunk. Hell, I was drunk right along with them when I saw them (if they were drunk at all). Now I know a lot of people would say "I'd rather be sober and remember the show/It's sad that you need to be drunk at a show/etc., etc." But that's not the point. I don't think there's anything wrong with being a bit liquored up. I think the article could be misinterpreted as "Oh, Green Day needs to be drunk?" But people are always going to blame someone else for their own mistakes and younger kids can be more easily influenced, especially if it's something they look up to. But like someone else said above me, if you're old enough to listen to Green Day, then hopefully you should have enough common sense to make good choices too. Same with the acid story, or even Billie Joe's story about beating the crap out of some guy in a car on the strip. "Oh, someone pisses you off? No worries, just dive into their car and start beating the shit out of them at a red light. After all, it's cool man!" I don't know if any of this makes sense, I hope it does. I'm never up this early.
Empty Laughter Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 This kind of saddens me to be honest. If you get to the point where you have to rely on alcohol to put on a good show... I just don't know. this. But I think he was talking about the past, and how they got to do all the weird and funny stuff they do -well, I hope so. And I think they may have drinks before, but not to get all wasted... idk :/
Trotsky Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I don't think they go on a drinking spree before shows. They just don't look all that drunk to me. Yeah, they probably have a few drinks, but I don't think they have enough to make them completely drunk. The thing is, I can drink like 5 Smirnoff Ice's, not stumble around or anything or show any physical signs of being drunk, but I'll still be much more aggressive and outgoing.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Well, they're not wasted, if you compare Green Day shows to Tubbies shows there's a VERY big difference, haha. Not saying that a six-pack before the show is good. But it's not like they're completely off their faces during their shows. I just don't like the thing that the article gives the impression that they need alcohol in order to make a good show. It would explain why Billie mumbles so horribly
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 I do have to say this: The best show I've ever seen in my life was Foxboro Hot Tubs, and those shows are all ABOUT being drunk. So, if the boys have a few drinks before going on to play Green Day gigs, it works. Because the 21st Century Breakdown tour were some of the most amazing shows those boys have put on in a LONG time.
Empty Laughter Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 if they have drinks before, people that go on stage and kiss Billie would feel the smell, right? just.. lets ask someone that had kissed him if she/he felt the smell... ok, maybe not
luvgirlcl Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 The way it's written gives me the impression that at one time it was the case, but not necessarily now. At my show, they didn't seem drunk, so it's that or they are very good at pretending.

Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 maybe, but it's really unhealthy and doesn't make any good for them this Since, as alot of people have said, it sounds like they're talking about at one point, how these ideas came about, I don't think a drink or two before a show is unhealthy. In fact, a little bit of alcohol is actually good for the body. So, if they have a drink or two or a shot or two before the show to get them amped up and pumped, I'm not seeing that as an unhealthy thing.
luvgirlcl Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Oh, and also (and this is from experience)...I think that getting on stage (by itself) it acts as some sort of catalyzer (or like a drug)...
Metanoia Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 mmh...idk its weird....because i personally always thought billie idk drinks only private or at club/foxboro shows...but then a lot....but before green day ahows..idk it sounds weird to me
Eeefaa. Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 But they're not saying it's okay for kids to get drunk. They're adult men and they make their own choises. I understand your point but really, I don't think they should stop drinking in order to be good role models. Besides, it's not just Green Day. If they were total saints, there'd be another "role model" who gets completely trashed every week and will influence youngsters. That is a little . . . . . if your Irish Sadly... so true Also, from being Irish, the more and more you drink, the more and more you need to get drunk maybe that's why he admires us so much Edit: Okay, so maybe I'm sounding like a little bit of a hypocrite here, but I hate drinking in general. Mostly because when I go out at night people my age will drink A LOT more than a six-pack of beer and a few shots each, dont eat before, dont drink water, etc, and can still be fairly stable. I generally dont drink that much, and it infact has put me off. But as long as the guys know what's in their limit, and also that drinking can have horrible health effects like weight gain, I'm okay with it.

Alan86 Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Did people honestly think they were going on stage without drink taken. They are a rock and roll band who every night they play try to put on the best performance they can while also having a good time themselves. Of course they are going to have a few drinks before they come on stage just to be relaxed. They are not coming out on stage completely drunk to the point where they can barely hold their instrument. One of the times I saw them in the last year I had a few pints of beer while watching the show and it made me more relaxed and more willing to join in during the crowd interaction parts of the show. Alcohol is not that bad once you know your limit
Mommy's Little Nightmare Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Besides, it's not just Green Day. If they were total saints, there'd be another "role model" who gets completely trashed every week and will influence youngsters. Demi Lovato
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 In fact, a little bit of alcohol is actually good for the body. Not true. That comes from the "a glass of red wine every day is good" thing, and while as far as I know that is true, it's mainly good because of some of the things in wine, not because of the alcohol. Wow I am annoying. Did people honestly think they were going on stage without drink taken. They are a rock and roll band who every night they play try to put on the best performance they can while also having a good time themselves. One of the times I saw them in the last year I had a few pints of beer while watching the show and it made me more relaxed and more willing to join in during the crowd interaction parts of the show. Alcohol is not that bad once you know your limit Yes, but this article gives the impression, whether that's exaggerated or not, that they have quite a few drinks before hitting the stage, not just two or three beers. They've said on multiple occasions that they have something to drink before the show, but that was like a beer and one or two shots or something like that, not a six-pack and a couple of shots. And it's not really clear whether they mean that they're doing that now or that in one point in their career they did that. Demi Lovato Mental image of Billie in a dress singing that "this is me" song in that Camp Rock movie. Dying.
