Billie Joe during AI in Peru

I'm sure if Billie Joe or a member of his family was dying of cancer he'd use his money to get a transplant. Just like Steve did.

In fact I'm pretty sure most of us would.

Sure its a little over the top, but I fully agree with everything Billie said during that song. Fully.

FULLY? if you could have steve jobs die right now, you would?

i doubt even billie joe FULLY agrees with what he said here.

Interesting point, whoever raised the Platapus comparison.

It makes me think- how exactly is this different from that?

That was me

I really don't think it is. I feel like as far as his public personality goes, the things we see from him shouldn't come as a surprise or be seen as anything new. Whether its hurling his guitar across the stage or smashing it or saying something idiotic when he's totally wrapped up in emotions..this is Billie Joe. He basically offers a huge disclaimer to his personality by being the first to admit that he's an asshole, that he says stupid shit, and that he is the American Idiot.

The only reason I can't get behind his anger this time is because of the content of his rant. I can't call it anything but stupid to wish death on a cancer patient, especially less than a month after playing a benefit called "Stand Up to Cancer." I find it reprehensible that because Steve Jobs has money he could cut in line on the waiting list for a new whatever, but I still can't wish death on the man. But I still don't condemn Billie Joe for being human.

Yeah but have you honestly, never ever not once in your life, blurted out something like "I wish they'd die" in a fit of anger?

It's not that you would mean it, it's just an impulse. You're angry, you say the vilest things that come to mind.

sure but it isn't really nice to say that someone should die on cancer, and even his dad died on cancer

I'm sure if Billie Joe or a member of his family was dying of cancer he'd use his money to get a transplant. Just like Steve did.

that's true but the thing is that it's shit that something like this can happen

Well like I said he was a little over the top wishing him dead from cancer. No I don't wish him dead, but I do hate the man.

Let's face it, it would be if more people knew. :ermm:

I doubt it. Not too many people in this big world hang on every word billie joe says.

(this is random guesswork, i wasnt there)

i think at least the technology part of the rant was due to the unusual amount of people who were filming everything (and you know how much he hates that...), the fact that the tour is nearly over, a generally dead audience, etc, etc... that and his time of the month coming around.

i really don't see what the big deal is. i didn't pay any attention when he told everyone to stop using facebook, why would i pay any attention to this?

he says stupid shit all the time, i just don't see what's so different about this.

Just because they dont care about everything else he says doesn't mean they wouldn't have a lot to say about THIS. to quote Andres, people love to bitch.

In answer to an earlier question, I think it was partly because of all the cameras taking pictures that he got so angry about technology. He made a comment about them earlier in the show, and at the end of American Idiot he shouted "take a fucking picture of that!"

Except in this case the desired consequence is someone's death, not the cancellation of their facebook account.

when i was watching the video before the rant started i was like holy shit theres a ton of little screens in the audience and not a lot of movement....wtf....

billie (and tre and mike) came from the background of small all ages shows where everyone is going crazy and moshing and singing a long and rarely take pictures. the people that take pictures are off the to side, not really interracting with the show.

i know this because ive recently become involved in the 'underground' scene or whatever you want to call it in northern california and i have seen it for myself. if someone is in the front and taking a lot of pictures people will pretty much tell that person to leave so that they can enjoy the show.

of course, green day has been playing huge arena shows for a while now, and dont play smaller shows that often at all besides the foxboro hot tubs. but their roots are still from that small venue/club scene.

i wonder if they miss being able to play small shows.

If I would have been at that show I probably would have been like 'Well, fuck you too, Billie.'

Idk, this angry, little man phase he got at the moment doesn't suit him.

I know everybody says things they don't really mean, but that first comment was just unnecessary.

This types of speeches are getting old. I bet he went online with his MacBook a few minutes after the show.

it's just silly to get so upset about. i know there have been quite a few times when i've been mad enough to say i wish someone was dead, and i'm sure that's happened to almost everyone. of course i didn't actually MEAN it. it's just something that comes out in the heat of the moment. if you all actually think that billie really and truly wants someone to die of cancer, when his father died of cancer...then that's just stupid. he was mad. people say shit like that all the time. get over it.

he shouldn't be put up on a pedestal and expected to never get angry and to never say anything that his fans don't agree with. he's not perfect either.
