I really hope sites such as Perez Hilton don't get whiff of this because it will give Green Day such a bad rep =/

Then maybe we should all stop talking about it... eek. :ninja::whistle

and your avatar...double no.

I'm no mathematician nor an English major .. but a double negative is positive right? ... so I must say ...

"Thanks! .. you are too kind!"

Even if that WAS meant to be insulting to the shirt? ... Sorry the badges on Billie Joe's shirt deflect all such comments.

Because when I was chatting with Tré this summer, he approved of the my shirt, in fact he actually started the conversation with "Hey, NICE shirt ..." somehow I think his fashion opinion would tend to supersede anyone's opinion here :)

Agreed?

Maybe I'm just an insensitive asshole, but my mum's been fighting cancer for the last two years, and his remarks didn't offend me especially because of the cancer thing. I just think it's lame to wish death on anyone else.

I don't think you're insensitive at all, I just think he's insensitive for not only hoping someone dies, but for hoping someone dies in such a terrible way. If I didn't know anyone who had cancer, I don't think I'd feel as strongly about it, but seeing people I love have to live through it really cemented how awful it is in my mind. If he doesn't like Steve Jobs, then I don't really care. He just could have handled it better, in my opinion.

Do you want ... Do you wanna LIVE?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna fucking live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna fucking live?! Do you wanna DIE behind a fucking screen?! Is that whatcha want?! Or do you wanna fucking LIVE?!

This is ALIVE! We are fucking ALIVE! We are ALIVE! VIVA LIMA!!!!"

I really like this part! But no one deserves to die, and technology hasnt destroyed everything. If there were no technology they couldnt make concerts...

I think this is one of those times when you say something in the heat of the moment without thinking it through and you regret it afterwards. The cancer thing was not cool but I can see his point about the cameras. I think maybe he just got caught up and said some things he didn't mean.

Here's what I put in the Peru thread:

Billie's kinda annoyed me with that speech. I mean, his own dad died of cancer. Why would you wish it upon somebody else? I mean, I know he was only speaking his mind; which I respect, but I bet there was a good handful of people at that concert that have either experienced cancer, or know someone who has died from it, and that probably really hurt them. It made me cringe and I've luckily never had to deal with cancer.

but, nobody understood what he said at the moment xD

I'd really like to know Billie's thoughts on this.

Amen. If i could hear him explain this (or express his regret for saying it) it would make things a lot easier to understand.

THIS !

My father had cancer too and it didn't offend me in any way.

I think everyone is overreacting on this now just as much as he may have overreacted...

You shouldn't wish death upon someone but damn he is only human too !

And i know i've done it before because people say things they don't mean all the time while having a fit jeeez

Like : The person who's free of sins throw the first brick eh ?

Before everyone jumps on my back i don't think it was okay :D

I think for some reason Green Day seem to get away with stuff like this somehow, I don't think much places will really pick up on it. At least I hope they don't. :ermm:

jus' sayin', i personally think your shirt is A to the WESOME :)

i dont think people understood you were joking when you said about steve jobs & obama apologising... it was a joke right? ;)

I don't even want him to apologize. Heat of the moment or not, he was fully aware of what he was saying. I just want to know what was/is going on in his mind.

there is a 100% negative correlation between tre's fashion sense and good taste. it has been statistically proven.

but you are correct, the billie joe badges DO provide you with the powers of deflection against snarky comments on the GDC. hold on tight to those badges yeggster...youz gonna need em...

love ya!

Yeah, it was a pretty thoughtless comment just to get a reaction.

Exactly :/

It was a silly thing to say and very insensitive but then he's a whole bucket of crazy at the end of the day and WE all know that, but from an outsider's point of view ... he'd get slaughtered for it.

Hmm... I see positive and negative aspects to this.

Negative is obviously the Steve Jobs can die comment. Plain distasteful really. But..... I have said horrible, horrible things along the lines of that to people. And I didn't mean what I said AT ALL. I was so caught up in my anger when I said them. So I can see how Billie might have been caught up in the moment when he said that. I'm not defending him at all though. He's nearly 40 years old, he should know better. Plus saying he can die of cancer, in my opinion, was... Stupid.

I did really like the do you want to live or whatever it was bit. It was just pure emotion coming out of him, I thought it was pretty cool.

Everything else I have to say has already been said so..

Billie is a person I respect and look up to in many ways. But there are times when I wish he'd shut up about certain things or at least think twice about what he says. He has every right to express his opinion, as he always does but this is just way too much. That cancer thing is just not okay, I don't care if he's in a mood or gets a little extreme in the heat of a moment. And wow, that screaming voice of his I haven't heard in ages. He really seems pissed. I'd rather see him calm down a bit. I know there's an important message behind these speeches he's holding, I mean, parts of it are really urging and inspiring. But sometimes I feel like it's getting a little old.

He might regret it later on, I don't know. We fans obviously know what he's like, and I don't think I'll give it much thought later on. But I just hope that this won't blow up to something huge.

This must be what Kanye West fans were like after the Taylor swift incident, although wishing cancer on someone is much worse then ruining someone's award speech =/

Steve Jobs is a piece of shit, I can't believe everyone got so upset.

I'm not too bothered by this speech, I don't expect Billie or anyone else to be rational 100% of the time. I like it when musicians get pissed off onstage, I'd rather they freak out than fake their emotions. The cancer comment was a bit harsh but it's not as if he's never expressed something like that in a song before, I think maybe because he gave a name to the insult, it seems worse.

Wasn't it this show that had a bunch of reviews saying that the crowd were concentrating more on their cameras than the show? I can see how that would piss him off when there's only 1 show left in the tour, it's his last few shows in a while and I'm sure they want to have the best memories they can of them.

I didn't read that review about the cameras, but yea, i can just imagine after a while it getting to Billie. He's got a temper, that's for sure.

People need more vitriol, it makes the world a goddamn more interesting place. Just like I loved when I turned on the news a few nights ago to see Joy Behar told Sharron Angle "Bitch go to hell!" on The View.

I hardly think that is a fair comparison

 thats the first I`ve seen or heard about this. I emailed a rant a couple of days before this.

I`m gonna dig myself a new bunker. :ermm:

yeah, seriously

I'm also going to take 2 guesses here, and the answer may be a combination of these.

- He may have been a little drunk and therefore feeling a little more aggressive than usual.

- Or, being in Peru, he perhaps was trying to make a point to the people there that all Americans are not spoiled rabid consumerist whores.
