Kaddi.
Kinda crazy. I really love the "THIS IS ALIVE! WE ARE ALIVE" - part though, it's awesome and it's exactly how I felt at the shows I went to.

**nobodylikesyou**
I totally get it. I mean, if I was in a band and playing some huge stadium, I'd much rather see people freaking out and dancing and singing, rather than all just recording it on their phones. But at the same time, you have to consider how much people want to remember everything about the night. So I can see both sides of this. Beffy, I dunno about that. It didn't sound like he was making some ironic comment, it sounded like he was just saying this aggressive thought that popped into his head. maybe so, but in the context of the whole spiel and the other comments made during the concert that's how I am looking at it. Job represents technology. I could be right, or I could be wrong, but thats how I see it.

IscoredWaddlesgoals
That whole speech is just ridiculous. It was completely unnecessary and uncalled for and just over the top. I'm all for raw emotion and anger and shit, but wishing death upon someone? Wishing someone to go to hell? Saying technology, probably one of the only reasons they're even on that stage, is ruining everything? If he wants anger, he's written plenty of angry songs he can perform. Unpopular opinion, but stupid speeches or rants or whatever just like this one were the worst part of both GD shows I went to. I like the music, and that's what I want to hear. I don't want to sit through some rant about how much the world sucks. In the time it took him to make all of these ridiculous comments, he probably could have played another decent song. I don't care how angry, pissed off, or emotional he gets. He has no reason to single out people who have never even done anything to him and wish death upon them, and he sure as hell has no reason to blame all of technology for the problems in the world. I still respect his music, but lately I'm having trouble seeing him as the same great person I used to see him as. We all say shit we don't mean sometimes, I get that. But he gives this exact same speech all the time, at every single show. Why that night would be any different, I don't know. If I find a reason to believe that Billie had a legitimate reason to say these things, maybe I'll rethink what I said. But after saying this so many times, he should have it planned out and memorized without having to call out certain people. And sorry if I don't make any sense, I just woke up. Exactly. He comes across like some petulant little teenage boy. In the words of Hit Girl: what a douche.
Holly Ann
“I can’t wait for Steve Jobs to die of fucking cancer! Barrack Obama can go to fucking hell too! Technology is fucking ruining everything! Technology is ruining everything! Technology has destroyed civilization! Do you want … Do you wanna LIVE?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna fucking live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna live?! Do you wanna fucking live?! Do you wanna DIE behind a fucking screen?! Is that whatcha want?! Or do you wanna fucking LIVE?! This is ALIVE! We are fucking ALIVE! We are ALIVE! VIVA LIMA!!!!” My opinion of him has just been extremely lowered.
Empty Laughter
I think that he didn't want to attack anyone, just trying to make a good point. Yes, the 'die pof fucking cancer' part was too much, but the rest is pretty awesome. "We're fucking alive" stop living your life by yourself in front of a computer, you need other people, you need to feel alive. I don't think he was just saying nonsenses or being stupid, neither attacking people at the concert, I think he was trying to give those people something to think about their lives in general, and not only to them, but just to everyone too. Maru
ok. whatever. As a peruvian fan who went to the show: so WHAT!? Maybe he got pissed of because most of the people were DEAD, just standing there like idiots. I swear, I think he was desperate at seeing most people like: ok, I don't know that song. sad
Holly Ann
Here's what I put in the Peru thread: Billie's kinda annoyed me with that speech. I mean, his own dad died of cancer. Why would you wish it upon somebody else? I mean, I know he was only speaking his mind; which I respect, but I bet there was a good handful of people at that concert that have either experienced cancer, or know someone who has died from it, and that probably really hurt them. It made me cringe and I've luckily never had to deal with cancer.

kelly42fox
What he thinks and feels may be completely different than how he is forced to live... We're all tethered to tech now... A person needs it to get along and function in regular society... Doesn't mean you have to like it... A lot of his comments are unwarranted. But Billie has always been that way. He doesn't pull punches. A side note to those who are talking about how GD supported Obama... A lot of people who voted for Obama are disappointed with what he's done this term... He was supposed to be the savior of this country and economy, remember? haha. That's hard to live up to... (I say it this way because I KNEW people were expecting too much for any ONE person, even a respectable, smart man in the White House). Some of his policies people didn't see coming either... I didn't. Back on topic... With all the 'angry' that Billie's been dumping in SAmerica... throwing guitars, rants like this, etc... I hope we're not seeing him slip toward one of his self destructive, anti social periods... I donno... his general demeanor is different now than at the beginning of this month... Maybe his St. Jimmy comes out when he's nearing the end of a long run, I donno...

Maybe I'm just an insensitive asshole, but my mum's been fighting cancer for the last two years, and his remarks didn't offend me especially because of the cancer thing. I just think it's lame to wish death on anyone else.
greenbear
I don't think there's any big deal with this "speech". Its just like the Billie of old. When he gets on stage he gets super-hyped up and anything that happens makes him react in a happy, silly or angry way. He just says what he wants. He opens his mouth and out it comes. Reliance on technology does annoy him even though he knows he has to live with it. Doesn't mean he likes it because he uses it. And the Steve Jobs comment was to get a reaction. It was the worst thing he could think of so he said it. Its in a live show on the spur of the moment, not in a recorded or written interview when I'm sure he's much more careful what he says. I actually love angry Billie. It shows him as a real person with whose not afraid to let his emotions show.
