To be honest, i don't think he is serious. He always speaks about not wanting to become preachy. Well, we know he's against the modernization of the music industry, and depending on technology.

I read this as an intended example of proving to people that "don't just follow me, think for yourself". Because sometimes people tend to have the same opinion as him, not because they have put themself into the shit he is talking about, but because they look up to/are obsessed with him. I mean, who in there right mind would want a guy to die of cancer purely because he contributed to the music-download industry. Also, he supported Obama during the election, and haven't said anything negative about him, only that he needs to move fast. So why would he condemn him to hell? When people start to follow him blindly, then Green Day's ideals become everything they sing against. Think people, think!

This rant seems to be based on Platypus. That song is all about hating someone and wanting them to die of cancer. Billies definitley not saying the right thing, but i dont really think of them as always right. there awesome people and awesome musicians who have always been slightly out of their minds. (:

I'm pretty sure he was serious. Infuriated, but serious. It would make no sense at all for him to speech like that just to, if they look deep into things, people might realize that it's *actually* about thinking for yourself. There is no sign whatsoever he meant it like that. And I doubt he would've thought something like that out in a fit of rage. I completely agree that people have to think for themselves, but I don't think that was the point of his speech.

Also, he supported Obama during the election, and haven't said anything negative about him, only that he needs to move fast. So why would he condemn him to hell?

Well, it's been nearly two years since Obama got inaugurated, and he has been slightly disappointing, considering what he's done so far, or rather, what he hasn't done.

When people start to follow him blindly, then Green Day's ideals become everything they sing against. Think people, think!

Am I the only person who found this fucking hilarious?

ok, seriously.. Green Day has teached me many things.. But the main thing they stand for is to have a mind of your own and question everything..

I do agree with most of Green Day's oppinions... But I am not going to blindly follow whatever Billie says..

I belive it is extremely wrong to wish death upon anyone..

I think the entire speech is just over the top..

Eventhough it is probably just a heat of the moment kind of thing.. Billie really need learn to think before he acts..

I feel like I'm just rambling about nothing...

No, you not. I was laughed when I heard him saying that... not that I'm agree with him. it's just that I learned not take it's so serious when rock stars talking bullshit on the stage in the middle of a song, and it's happen alot.

I actually snorted I was laughing so hard.

I'm not looking deeply into it, I'll probably forget about next week.

did anyone else notice that after he gave this rant he stopped using twitter. On Oct. 26 he posted "Tonight! Lima Peru! Let's celebrate!! Xoxo El Presidente billie joe" and then there isnt another post on their twitter account till Nov. 2 when someone posted "Green Day and MTV present a World Stage Event - http://wbr.fm/gdscreen2" which really doesnt sound like billie. do you think hes quit for good?

Nah, I think he needs a few weeks/months away from it (and the fans). Touring for two solid years is physically and mentally exhausting -- I know *I'd* want to go into hibernation for a bit afterwards, anyway.

I've never heard Billie Joe sound this frustrated before, he's seriously enraged.

It's not cool to wish on Steve Jobs to die of cancer, it's a long painful death, car crash would do just fine.

Billie's looking down at a sea of camera phones, there's too much screen lights coming from the audience that it's really starting to get irritating to him, if you look at it from his point of view; he must be missing the normal view of a live audience enjoying the show.

Billie's anger is never a bad thing for his music, I thought they were going through the motions for the last couple years but this brings some excitement, new problems, frustrations and concepts, I don't care what it's about as much as I care what it produces and in Billie's case it always produces great musical ideas.

I think the next album is gonna have what 21stCB lacked, a purpose.

I disagree with your final statement about 21CB but +1 rep for you anyway -- many, many good points you raise. Especially about what it must be like for Billie to be looking out at a whole floorful of flickering screen lights. On the one hand, it was the first time Green Day brought a tour to Central and So. America so you've got buckets of humanity wanting to capture the moment....but the thing about Green Day concerts generally is that Billie doesn't just perform. He makes himself a part of the crowd just the same way he wants the crowd to be part of the band, no matter where your seats are...and he plays every show like it's the last one he's ever going to do. Too many flashbulbs, cameras, iPhones, yada yada, and it breaks the moment for him (even if it doesn't break it for the people who are deploying them). Too much of that and -- tada -- we're treated to the "rage" side of Mr. Rage'n'Love. I'm not thrilled with or proud of his Steve Jobs comment -- I wouldn't wish a death from (urk) pancreatic cancer on anyone -- but in larger context I can at least get his point.

i thought that might be true but it seemed strange that he didnt say anything about the last show. if he had said something about that and then stopped tweeting for a long time i would have thought that, but maybe your right and he was just to tired by the last show to tweet about it.

I thought this was pretty shocking at first, giving everything that's happened in his personal life, BUT really, it's not that big a deal at the end of the day. He was being passionate aboot something but it just came off in the wrong way.

Yeah I agree, you'd think he would've had a goodbye tweet of some kind for the end of the tour (would've been nice :D). But then again he's not exactly consistent when it comes to twitter so who knows - he didn't tweet after the last show of the US leg of the tour either.

Well he actually did tweet a couple of days after the end of the U.S. tour on the 9th, so I think that's why everyone's been wondering about it.

"Don't ask me for shit! Ha! I'm home. Adjusting.sad the tour is over. Happy to be home at the same time. That was the best tour of US tour!"

"Seriously thank you for this memory that will stick w us 4 a lifetime. One day we will all get naked and have a million person sex party-bj"

Ahh you're right. Hmm maybe it did have something to do with it then.

OR maybe Green Day's management or whoever was nagging him to tweet but they've stopped now the tour's over

That's what I'm thinking. I think Billie would get a lot more shit if he tweeted after that rant, you know? Not that he'd give a shit, but that's just my thinking.

Fans pissed him off with cameras so he is pissing the fans off by ending the tweets :P Just throwing that in the mix lol

His dog just started tweeting the other day. Follow @CleoArmstrong for the laughs, tho I'm 99.9% sure it's an imposter. Funny as fuck though. :)

Hahahaha, I love that

if you compare the profile pic with the Billie chillin' with Cleo pic and compare the noses, it's indeed fake.

which doesn't make it any less funny. :D

WELL, that was soo rude of him to speak against the co-founder of Apple.

Okay, I think in some point he's right, I mean it's not nice to see everyone paying more attention trying to record the song perfectly in their cells instead of living the concert, I kinda sympathise with Billie cause they put up the show for people to freak out and interact and so.. I'd lose my temper too.

But I think wishin death to somebody was crossing the line.

I'm not taking this seriously at all...

He's openly talked about drinking (heavily!) before/during shows, and so my instant reaction was "wow, someone's had a bit too much" haha. I don't know, maybe he didn't, but that's just what I'm taking it as. People tend to say/do weird things when they've been drinking, and maybe something happened to him that day that pissed him off regarding technology or whatever, and then he starts drinking before the show and all of a sudden he's really pissed off and decided to get a rant off his chest?

That was my initial conclusion anyways... this didn't really bother me too much. He seemed genuinely pissed, whether drunk or not, and people say shit they don't mean in the heat of the moment.
