Eeefaa.
I think this would fall into the category of Billie being very stupid and not thinking about what he was saying. It was completely unnecessary and uncalled for and just over the top. I'm all for raw emotion and anger and shit, but wishing death upon someone? Wishing someone to go to hell? Saying technology, probably one of the only reasons they're even on that stage, is ruining everything? yeah, thats probably pretty much what I came in here to say And to add to Alan's comment, and just after reading that Q article, he does say that he likes to get "real loose" for shows, I guess that means his mouth too. Maybe he got caught up in it all? Still, the statement about Steve Jobs and cancer was pretty unacceptable. Grow up, Billie.
**nobodylikesyou**
I think before 21 guns he told people if they put their cameras away or phones or something that they would play longer. Sounds like he definitely had something going on that night, maybe he is just ready to go home because he is sick of us. I think they dying part was a bit much, IMO, but then again I don't really care about his opinion so I imagine he doesn't care about mine.

Maru
Pretty cool speech. I was there, and maybe he got pisse doff at the crowd, who were just standing there like assholes. BAD CROWD.

We can all have those moments, where we say things that can be seen to be unacceptable, but Bille said it infront of a stadium full of people unfortunetly Lets hope nobody makes a big deal out of this. GDM
One of the things I've noticed in the South American concerts have been that there are more cameras going than I've seen in a lot of shows. It's something I mentally noted a while ago. I think all in all, he might just be sick of it, as Beth noted before 21 Guns.

They haven't had Green Day since '98 and won't have them again until at least the next tour, as I doubt Green Day would fly down to SA just to play some surprise shows. I don't blame him for being sick of it, but he's gotta consider that for a lot of fans, they've been waiting for a decade or more to be able to see them live. So they're gonna want to remember it. Rosie May
I think it's time for Billie to go home and go to bed like a good boy. I hope he makes up for it and says something nice in the last show, it would be sad if the whole tour had to end on a bad note like this

manilla
He's a walking contradiction, once he plays in a show against cancer, than he wishes someone to die.. I know that he might not agree with some things, he can have his own opinion, but he knows exactly how terrible disease cancer is.. That was just too much. Let's understand it as he didn't think twice before he said that.
Radioactive1
Billie needs to get over this technology thing. God, he's been whining about it for years. He can't change it so why bitch about it like a pathetic n00b?
captain peroxide
If anything, this is a good thing. It's gonna show a ton of fans that he isn't this perfect god for them to worship, he's just a guy in a band. An awesome guy in an awesome band, but nonetheless. So they're gonna want to remember it. he doesnt always hate it. In fact in St Louis he stopped the show to yell at security who wasn't letting someone use their camera. He basically said for them to stop and leave her alone because she JUST WANTS TO TAKE A FUCKING PICTURE. I think some poeple are making a mountain out a molehill with this. I think the point he was trying to make was stop living your life behind your computer/phone get out there and live it for real. The reference about whatshisface dying of cancer, I believe is him pointing out the irony that all this technology causes cancer and won't it be ironic when a well known creator of such technology dies of it and can't live life. I don't think Billie actually wants the man to croak.

Completely makes sense from my point of view. But we all know how the band feels about the camera thing, too. I went to see Bad Religion last night at Irving Plaza play for their 30-year anniversary show. There were only a few cameras out and everyone was enjoying the music and dancing. I guess Green Day likes it that way, too. I understand it from both points of view. I was pointing that out because we do know how they feel about it and I just noticed that there have been a lot more cameras out during SA that other tour footage I've seen. Which, from our point of view is great, but from Green Day's, not so much, as can be noted in BJ's speech. The reference about whatshisface dying of cancer, I believe is him pointing out the irony that all this technology causes cancer and won't it be ironic when a well known creator of such technology dies of it and can't live life. Catsername
Yeah, I think he's really feeling it though...like everything...the tour ending, writing a new album, working on the live album...He probably has tons going on around him and the cameras and technology in general probably just topped it all off. But still, I don't think it was a good thing to say, no matter how pissed off you are. He may have meant it differently but it didn't come out that way. darenmay
the topic of that speech is technology? he says he can't wait for steve jobs to die.. maybe he uses the man to represent technology as a whole, which (and not who) he wishes to die. * as for billie's hatred towards technology, i don't really understand why. i mean, how could someone have so much hate on it. it's indispensable in today's society. Vrock09
All I know is he's scary as fuck when he goes on his rants ...its worse than when he flipped out during GSB when something broke or went wrong or something, i dunno it just pissed him off tho. captain peroxide
I totally get it. I mean, if I was in a band and playing some huge stadium, I'd much rather see people freaking out and dancing and singing, rather than all just recording it on their phones. But at the same time, you have to consider how much people want to remember everything about the night. So I can see both sides of this. Beffy, I dunno about that. It didn't sound like he was making some ironic comment, it sounded like he was just saying this aggressive thought that popped into his head.
