For pete's sake Billie's dad died of cancer so I really believe when Billie said that about Jobs he didn't mean it in the literal sense

that some people seem to be taking it as.

Yup pretty much, it's still no excuse. People can make different interpretations out of it.

If the media gets this info, It would be a huge shock to people outside the fan base... And a really big deal ... I just don't want this to happen...

I've heard that the crowd wasn't helping with so many cellphones and cameras in front of them, I know it pisses him off, he was trying to make people enjoy the moment like he always do.

I still think there was no need to say all that, it was too much. kind of annoying. Since people are not going to listen to him anyway loool

At first I was like you, but then I saw it. and while listening to the way he said it it made me think it was just something to make people in the crowd give up the cellphones and stuff.. More than really meaning it, also he said stuff while singing (changing the lyrics)

It just gets a little bit annoying.

I hate being dragged back into this. I said earlier I don't condone what he said but we have no idea what was going on to

make him say that and i am sure he didn't mean that literally. My sister died of breast cancer last year on mothers day

and I didn't take what Billie said personal. Most people that are Green Day fans know not to take what they say at face value.

Green Day has always been like that. I guess being a big Green Day fan I have developed a thick skin over the past 19yrs

I don't take what they say to heart and let it hurt my feelings. I'm sure there is so much more to it that we do not know about.

I am just not the type that passes judgment on someone. We have all at one time or another said something like just fuck off and

die, that didn't mean we wanted them to die. My friend caught her husband sleeping around on her and she said I hope you catch AIDS

and die, even though she was upset she didn't really want him to catch AIDS or even die for that matter. It was something that she

said in anger that held no validity what so ever, she was just really pissed off and didn't think before she spoke. People need to lighten

up and stop taking things at face value. We all say thing in anger that we may later regret. It doesn't make it right but it happens

so we need to let this go and stop over analyzing it. Billie has done a lot more good in this world and helped so many people

in need, he has a big heart and are we going to let one stupid statement over shadow all of the good he has done in this world

for so many people? He worked for Habitat For Humanity in New Orleans after the hurricane, He paid for that prom for gay

teens because that girl was barred from the one at her school because of her sexual preference. He has done countless things to

help save the environment, He worked with his sister to raise money for the Children's Hospital in Oakland, and I could go on and on

about all the wonderful things he has done for people in this world. Take me for example: I am a disabled Afghanistan War Veteran that is

in a wheelchair, after his last performance playing St Jimmy on Oct. 3rd he had me brought on stage at The St James Theater and took time

out of his hectic schedule to meet and talk with me. He took his time and didn't rush off he stood there and talked to me

and made me feel important like he was really interested in what I had to say. I was on the stage for about an hour. He didn't

have to do all that for me but he did because he cares. I talked with him for quiet a while and I found him to be a down to Earth

person and he didn't act like he was better than me or anything like that. He was so gracious and sweet. He even asked me

if he could write his name on me and would I get it tattooed. He gave me a memory that I will carry with me always not just in

my heart but on my arm. He made me feel special and that is something I haven't felt since before I was injured. So I'm

sorry I can't take one rage and anger induced comment and let it over shadow all the good he has done. He is human just

like the rest of us and is prone to make mistakes from time to time. He isn't perfect and neither are we. Green Day has given

us so much and I believe we as fans should stand behind him and be understanding, even if you don't agree with his poor choice

of words. I think we owe him at least that much for all that he has done or us. You don't just throw someone you care about to the

wolves over one mistake. Now thats that and it's all I'm going to say on this subject. Now the rest of us need to let it go too.

it's all I'm going to say on that subject and I hope everyone will just drop it please....

I agree with you, I am pretty sure he didn't mean it, and probably while we are all going crazy about this, he doesn't even think back, or remembers what he said lol I have myself said these kind of things, when I was really angry. But then I felt really guilty because I didn't mean any of it.

He kind of lost his mind there... That happens to everyone, but 'course I am not saying this defend him, or agreeing with what he said.

I love Billie, I know he is a really nice person, this didn't change anything about the respect I have for him in any way...

And yeah... Let's just leave it alone.

Eighteen pages. Mother of fuck. I think there's nothing left to be said.

Wow, I just watched it.. I feel a little shocked. I actually found the "Do you wanna live...Do you wanna live....Do you wanna live" bit the most shocking, so much rage!

Technology is fucking ruining everything-technology is ruining everything! well he's right. and steve jobs is as much to blame as maybe bill gates

haha, agreed. It's starting to get boring now. Billie said some stuff, not everybody is going to like it, it doesn't matter cause I'm sure he doesn't give a shite, the concert looked awesome, end of story. :pinch:

I think that's what bothered me so much about the whole thing. My step-dad is recovering from cancer, my uncle recently died of cancer, my cousin is fighting cancer right now and we aren't sure if he's going to make it, my grandfather is dying in the hospital right now from cancer and there's nothing I can do about it. How could someone wish something so terrible on someone else?

Oh my god, I'm so sorry you and your family are going through that.

I agree with everything you've said in this thread, Dawn. You're always so dead on! I agree with you 100% about everyone being told --- And compiling --- To just sit down, to just shut up, to just 'keep thoughts to ourselves' nowadays. Everyone's so concerned with political correctness and the fear of 'OMGZ WHAT WILL OTHERZ THINK!?!!1'

And personally, the thing I find most shocking about this entire escapade is that people would actually 'lose respect' for Billie because of it. I simply cannot wrap my mind around why they would consider something as freeing and as liberating as Billie Joe spitting out exactly what he was feeling at that moment to be a bad thing.

He was exposing a wildly raw side of himself, and fans, instead of embracing this in realisation that they, too, have that wild rawness inside, and that occassionally it's okay to expose it themselves, fans are instead denying, denying, denying. Acting as if they've never had a violent thought or an angry word spew from their own mouths.

And that, I think, is what bothers me the most about all of this ... The hypocrisy.

I think this discussion is getting a bit further 'cause I don't think someone demands to know what Billie was thinking ar demand to think that he can do or not...and moreover no one is judging billie's values...it started just as an exchange od opinions....people can think he was right or wrong but if we are in this forum is obvious that we all think he's a great guy...but this doesn't exclude that it's possible to disagree with him...anyway I think it's time to close thi topic...

Lots of people with lots of opinions and the conversation just flowed from there. It was quite interesting to read.

Whatever... He's always been a bit of a Jekyl and Hyde person between his on and off stage personas... Alas, Billie Joe is human just like the rest of us - which is probably the reason he writes music that hits home for so many of us. Just like a marriage, gotta take bad with the good sometimes. We've all "been there" before - no reason for me to think it's my place to say "bad Billie" and slap him on the hand... No more than it would be his place to point out I've said/done something inappropriate...

I think it's interesting as well, I just sort of thought people would hae run out of things to say by now

He said a great absurdity...

front of the great crowd...

why can be for him a great twinge of conscience...

and now he gets scolding from great crowd !!!

( I absolutely agree with dawn71,..

and a very quiet note: I know this isn't an excuse, but who has a diet- often huffy ...)

People were going nuts over this on twitter (not in a good way) =/

He's entitled to his own opinion, but personally I think he kinda went a bit too far especially saying it while onstage

Me too! So intense, he really ran away with himself. And Jesus Of Suburbia afterwards too, it's gotta be the most intense performance of that song I've ever seen. He was on fire.

I kind of feel bad now about going to see Green Day at the cinema after watching his rant about technology =/

It was a heat of the moment thing I think, plus he's probably burnout seeing as it's the end of the tour. If he really meant it there wouldn't be GDRB or Green Day's twitter
