He obviously didn't quite mean the cancer thing, he was just trying to make a point.

just because the guy deserved it, doesn't mean it was right on my part.

I don't know, I just think that some people need to be wished death for their actions (murder, rape, pillage, genocide), etc. and not for making a computer. Sure it is doing crazy things to society, but just because Jobs would die of cancer doesn't mean that the computer would just cease to exist. And again, if Jobs hadn't just overcome cancer and could actually potentially die of it, and if BJ just hadn't done a telethon... ack.

Seriously this means actually neither here nor there to me, truthfully, but I just think that people do have a point about the comments, pro and con.

but people shouldn't use those reasons for saying it's wrong and saying if he didn't do the telethon and Jobs didn't have cancer it's okay. It's like saying you can't insult someone because they died or because they have some disease now. It shouldn't be okay if the person is in one state but not okay if they're in another.

He's not saying Jobs did anything wrong, he's not saying if he dies it will fix everything. I don't like Paramore. If I say I hope Hayley dies, that doesn't mean their music will go away and people will stop listening to it. You're absolutely right about that. but Billie is not intending for him to die. Some people say things in a figurative way, and if anyone uses that, it's Billie. a LOT of his songs aren't meant to be literally taken. He uses a lot of symbols and metaphors.

well i got a sony ericsson w810i and a ddr2 desktop with w7 ultimate. and dc schoes, and a penis.

damn. you beat me with the whole penis thing. but i have boobs, so ha!

What's with all the commotion? If he said that Pre-American Idiot no one would care. What happened to freedom of speech?

I admit I'v been so pissed off with some-one that I wished they'd die, almost everyone has, its just that Billie Joe had a microphone at the time :)

haha, so true about the microphone thing.

people get mad when celebrities say stuff.

I think this doesn't matter because I know Billie doesn't actually want him to die.

I really like Billie's metaphors and symbols. That's why I love their music, and I use those techniques in my songs, too.

Okay now this thread is getting kind of stupid. Try to stay on track, please.

What I don't get about this argument is that it seems like you're saying "because of these circumstances, it was wrong." Say his dad didn't die of cancer, he hadn't just done a telethon, and Jobs never had the disease, (just pretend for a second) then would it be okay for him to say it?

I mean obviously, I know you disagree with it and think it's wrong regardless, but that's just what it sounds like from my perspective. And if that is your argument I have to say, that's a load of bullshit.

Agreed, well I guess these "people" are gunna have to MAN UP. :)

We are having a conversation, not a commotion. Believe me, the commotion happened much earlier in this thread. I think it's turned into a really good conversation, frankly.

Lame speech. Don't wish/want people to die.. Thats just stupid.

Thank god most people won't find out about this because that gives more ignorant haters more hate reasons.

And I never said anything about his dad.

This thread will go down in GDC history.

Hell, this moment of his words.

I got so worked up once I yelled, "I hope you die of aids!" to some person. I didn't mean it, but you know... sometimes your mouth gets the best of you.

Yeah, you're right, my bad. I guess I just lumped that in their accidently because it's been mentioned so much.

For pete's sake Billie's dad died of cancer so I really believe when Billie said that about Jobs he didn't mean it in the literal sense

that some people seem to be taking it as. Billie would never disrespect his father like that. I mean come on people it was something

said in anger and not meant to be taken so literally. Do you really think Billie Joe would disrespect his father like that? Just take it

for what it's worth, words said in anger not meant to be taken so literally and blown out of proportion like they have been. Just get

over it and move on. Billie is a truly a a good guy & would never actually mean that in the literal sense. Just listen to his music

he use lots of metaphors to get a point across. That's just Billie, that's who he is & how he thinks. This has been way blown out of

proportion and was never meant to be taken at face value. Out of all the crazy things that Billie has said and done over the years

are people really going to single this one incident out and make it into something that it was never meant to be? That's just silly.

I agree. Did anybody hear him say we should all stick together? I think that was the overall theme of what he meant. He's right technology is ruining everything and who wants to live behind a screen for the rest of their lives... I WANT TO LIVE! I value that more than anything else.

agreed.... at one time or another we all say things in anger that we do not mean. When you're pissed off you don't stop to think about what you're

going to say or if it's politically correct, it just comes out in anger and never meant to be taken at face value. I just can't get over how people

are blowing this up into the end all to be all. People need to go put on a Green Day album, enjoy and get over it....

I love iPods and Billie Joe.

They can both do whatever they like.

It makes me shudder when my position is shared by Mallory and Lauren.

I didn't realise it originally, but Lauren holds the opinion that Billie didn't mean what he said. I, on the other hand, think he probably did, but I really don't give a fuck.

In fact, I love that he said it, because more people need to learn to show their true, animalistic emotions instead of masking them with political correctness or reining them in for fear of what others'll think.

Most GDCers defense of Billie: He didn't mean it!

My defense of Billie: It was funny.

That's the difference.

This is exactly what I meant!

We are having a conversation, not a commotion. Believe me, the commotion happened much earlier in this thread. I think it's turned into a really good conversation, frankly.

Ugh, would you let it go, already? Jesus fuck. I was the first one to call out the hypocrites in this thread, but I wasn't the last. Harp on them for awhile instead, would you?

Mallory, your guilt is funny. And what makes you think I'm only talking about you? There was was plenty of commotion in this thread. I am not harping on you. Get over yourself.

What the hell did I miss? Lol.

My reaction is eh. Billie Joe is not the brightest or most censored guy. We all know that.

I mean, Christ, the man was one of those textbook Bush-bashers who couldn't really explain why other than "he's stupid and sent us to war." He also became the standard follow up to the Bush-haters by evolving into an even stupider "Obama is going save the world" person. It kind of makes me laugh that he, like tons of other democrats hate Obama now that they realize democrats are not magical superheros.

As for the cancer jab, I'm not bothered by it and my dad died of cancer recently. Not many things offend me. Still it was a dumb thing to say considering how sensitive a subject it is for many. I'm not surprised or anything though. The guy's got a lot of anger in his tiny body. Not exactly breaking news. He just sounds like a ranting old man to be honest and I am more amused than anything.

I'm going to go read a science fiction novel on my Kindle, Billie. Peace out.

I don't really think what he said was very appropriate (even for him). Saying you can't wait for someone to get cancer is an awful insult and pretty uncalled for.

I do somewhat agree with what he is trying to say but the message is getting a little confused with his anger.

Who's willing to bet Billie went back to his hotel room and switched on his iPod that night? The man does not travel with a vinyl collection.

Guilt ...? I think you need to go back to your little college and write another thesis or two, because you clearly don't understand the definition of the word. I am feeling many things when I post in this thread, but guilt is not one of them.

And please. You've been harping on me all day, how am I supposed to realise that you've suddenly decided to whistle a different tune?

Because you think the world revolves around you? Like I said, get over yourself. Apparently you are feeling something in order to think I was talking about you. And like I said earlier, if three people have suggested you calm down, we might not all be wrong.

Once again, just because he supported Obama, I never saw unbridled adoration of him from Green Day, more like, he's the best we've got available.

Not if his headphone jack is broken like mine and all my friends. Wretched devices. (though I still play Tower Defense on it)
