i'm sorry but that's why i'm calling you emo. i don't care about your curses, because you don't have the level of intelligance to be cared of. even answering a person who is so sensitive about being called an emo is not hat i usually do. but yes, in a punk rock concert, you CAN say that you are waiting for someone to die. and you usually think the same about what that band thinks and i agree... BJ. i also think that steve is an idiot, i also agree that technology is stupidand killesmany values. so fuck off and cry in your room you little cumslut.

Wow guess what your using technolagy now to talk to me so if u think its so "stupid" then why are you on here. And cant u question thats it not a punk rock concert?

I honestly don't know how people can be so offended by this. Are the same people offended by Platypus (I Hate You) then? That's about a real person too, there's very little difference between this and that song. Billie's always expressed over-the-top anger on stage along with over-the-top every other emotion and he's said some pretty outlandish things in his time. I really don't see how this is either surprising or shocking, it's nothing new. This has been blown out of all proportion

Yes but playpus was writting in there more punk age where they were known as a punk band and kids didnt go to there concerts. Look im gonna leave this thread alone (if i can) as i dont see why i should be argueing with other fans of the greateast band in the world.

No way. My goal isn't to try to get the guys in trouble.

Exactly.

And thanks for adding some sanity to the thread

I think most people had only issue with the Steve Jobs comment, but then that got conflated with so much else. The technology comments... blah for me, and I am not even upset with the Jobs comment, but it's just amazing that no one can disagree about anything that BJ says. Thanks for putting it all into perspective, good job, that's why you're head honcho.

No dude. No. Nimrod was 2 albums after Dookie, and Green Day were mainstream stars after Dookie.

If you can't argue with someone without trying to personally insult them, you shouldn't be trying to argue with them.

Didnt they bring out nimrod to show that they could be punk again? (i could be mistaken)

Billie's been acting a little... strange lately.

only since the south american tour started.. i mean did you see when he threw blue down and ripped his shirt off for no apparent reason? :ermm:

I love the guy but, fucking strange...

i think St. Jimmy is coming out of him

There's such a big difference in writing a song about some unknown guy, but using your music as a venue for those feelings - and going off on a rant during a song about how you wish someone would die of cancer. People are pissed off about this because that's not the side of Billie Joe we ever see. Sorry, this specific rant doesn't fit into the same box as the others he's gone off on.

Doesn't matter. The point is, they were playing sold out huge venues, not street corner bars, long before Platypus was released. And kids go to punk shows too, especially if their parents or siblings are into punk.

That was insomniac.

So true, Andres. <3

I really don't care what Billie said if he wants steve jobs to die of cancer its his oppinion let him think what he wants.

Maybe billie's having a bad week after all he threw the blue replica and he seemed pretty pissed off during his rant.

Theres something in there about Barack Obama can go to hell...he seems a bit over the top there but hey, its just his opinion I guess.

Over the top?!?!?! He wrote a whole ALBUM about hating a president! One sentence is not over the top.

omg this was only 5 pages last time i checked  . talk about people over dramatisizing things. beej let out an angry rant, who here has never said random shit when they're mad? i just wonder what mike and tre were thinking during billie's wacky outburst :D

Oh please, he wrote one song specific to the president. And the Obama line is hardly the "over-the-top" part of it.

Um...I just assume most people don't go around saying they'd wish people to die of cancer when they're angry.

There are people who say "Man, I wanna kill that guy!" and no one takes them seriously, so I don't see how "I hope he dies of cancer" should be taken seriously.

It's just a fucked up thing to say considering the guy almost did die of cancer. Not to mention that as someone mentioned, Billie just participated in the Stand Up 2 Cancer thing. All I'm saying is that it's a fucked up thing to say. Plus, tone of the statement is also worth something.

Alright I'm just gonna post what I posted on Facebook so I can save time and put everything in one post.

YOU GUYS ARE GETTING IT ALL WRONG. THIS IS THE 290483TH TIME I HAVE TO SAY THIS SO EXCUSE ME FOR THE CAPS.

Billie has been doing this his whole life. Listen to his songs! Platypus. Haha You're Dead. Half his songs are insulting people.

Watch live videos from the American Idiot era. Almost every show he says something along the lines of "Fuck George Bush!". Why are you all so shocked?

It's one thing to call him a jerk or that he's being stupid, but another thing to say he's not like himself. He's not hating on anyone. He's simply saying politics and technology are "ruining" our lives.

No, not that they're bad. He can't say that of course because he uses technology all the time for his job. He's just saying not to let politics and technology take over our lives. He says that we are ALIVE, but we are not LIVING.

That's what the whole show is about. He wants to show you what living in the moment really is. He wants us to stop worrying about the world and to enjoy ourselves for 3 measly hours and watch the band perform amazingly as they always do.

You people are seriously hypocritical if you cheer along when Billie says bad stuff about Bush or someone else you hate, but then go crazy when he says something bad about Steve Jobs and Obama. Do you HONESTLY think Billie would wish cancer on someone else? I highly doubt he's like that at all. By saying he hopes he dies of cancer and saying Obama can go to hell, he's simply stating that we should FORGET about them every once in a while. Stop worrying. THIS IS THE SAME MESSAGE HE SENDS OUT AT EVERY CONCERT. He's just being more upfront about it at this one.

Of course not everyone should feel like they have to agree with Billie. but to disagree with him on this, or to even say (as I heard some people say) you lost RESPECT for him by saying this, but you agree with all the other bad stuff he said about people and suddenly think he's being ridiculous is completely ridiculous of you to think.

This is nothing new. He's done this many times before. The people he's talking about may change as time changes, but the message always remains the same. Think about what he's saying before you jump to conclusions. Think about what's going through his mind. What he really wants us to do. I'm really happy he decided to be braver this time and say something a bit more riskier by using people's names. It shows he really believes in what he's trying to tell us.

what i mean with technology is being bad is the way that people use it. green day uses technology while recording and performing but sometimes technology is in our lives so bad, we don't even leave our houses. there is people who believes everything what they see on tv. there is people who uses the technology to make kids believe in what they want them to believe. People stopped moving.... i don't think that BJ ment "Throw your iPods from the window and stop using fridges." he ment that stop being a slave of the technology. he wanted us to close our compuerts for an hour and go out, have real fun with friends, not by liking their "stauses". BJ is angry because the fans used to have real fun at the concerts. now there is all those cameras, recorders, phones... I don't think that a fan who records the whole concert, and I actually know that they do, is not having a real good time. i think that's what BJ thinks. remember the thing that AFI lead singer told the fan who wanted a picture. He said taht it was about living the moment, not being a brat showing of that you meet a famous person, as i remember. he wants to have the time of our lives. not showing of that you went to a Green day concert. i actually miss these days that I could see the stage without trying to avoid all those cameras infront of me. and serioulsy do you think that a Green Day fan is going to kill Steve Jobs tomorrow? Or is Barack Obama gonna get pissed of about him? Just the lyrics from Platypus. I mean, it's a recorded song on an album, right? he can be agressive about lyrics but can't be agressive about what he is saying on stage? That's the part I don't get.

And they don't find it acceptable - no wonder he needs all those alter egos. Y'know, all this stuff about putting him on a pedestal, when what I get from this thread is the opposite - people don't want him to be someone with violent passions, they want him to be someone they can relate to. He's a fucking artist, and his art comes from a place of ferocity - a ferocity that ignites people and knocks them off their feet, and that doesn't come along with being 'nice'.

For the record, I loved what he said, and even more, how he said it - so full of passion and pleading, it just echoed around me everywhere I went today, like, is technology making people uncivilised? On my bus ride home tonite, people were on netbooks, on cell-phones - most of them would obviously rather be somewhere other than where they were right then, which is obviously their right and their choice. But fuckit, if you're at a Green Day show, don't you wanna be fully there, fully engaged, and if you're Green Day, aren't you entitled to be fucking heartbroken that people are making another choice?
