GDM
Maybe everyone should back off of their emotions right now. Everyone has said their piece for the most part. Now, maybe there is really nothing else to be said. I looked at the video again, and saw the part where he asks for the lights to be turned off during JOS. Too many cameras and he just got pissed about it in the end. We can have our varying opinions about it, but it just may be too emotionally charged at this point. It was a good conversation while it lasted, though.
StevieT
I will lose immense amounts of respect for him if he apologizes. And you are wrong. When Rage Against the Machine (rightfully) said Bush should be hanged (in America), the crowd didn't turn on them. Lol thats totally different did steve jobs send people to war or whatever? And also hanging is something that is done to someone bad cancer can be caught by anyone.
Mellyboots
The people who are using the 'He's not perfect!' excuse need to shut the fuck up. We know he's not perfect, nobody is saying we thought he was perfect. People have the right to be mad about the cancer comment, it was out of line and tasteless. I don't care if it was in the heat of the moment, if he was drunk, or whatever else. I'd be offended by anyone saying that, Bille Joe included. Personally I think it's the people that are defending him with the 'he's not perfect' excuse are the ones who seem to put the band on a pedestal. If it wasn't a member of Green Day that had said it I doubt they'd be as quick to defend such a horrible comment. That said, I haven't lost respect for him or anything like a few others have said. He has the right to say whatever he likes, whether other people like what he says or not. I'll always love the music that he has made, regardless of any stupid shit he says that I disagree with now or in the future. Being a fan of the music doesn't mean you have to defend everything this band does....After all 'they're not perfect', so how could you be expected to agree with and defend every move they make? Well Bush getting cancer wouldn't exactly be a lack of karmic justice either since he gave it to thousands of our soldiers via depleted uranium tipped bullets. SetOnOverdrive
At the end of the day. He knows that there is going to be a whole load of cameras there. Maybe this is his point. He can say whatever the fuck he wants when he wants. Due to the internet and technology etc. the stuff he says will be posted online etc. This is just his way to piss people off. I mean back on the AI tour where he would make shitloads of redneck comments etc. He's proving a very important point. Did he go to far with one of his comments, yes maybe but you have to go far if you want to make a point.
StevieT
Also can i just say the bit where he goes hide behind your fucking screens. There now doing a cinmerar presentation of the tour surley the band would have had to give the go ahead so isnt that being a bit hypicriticle (yes i cant spell)

Precisly thats why im saying that no1 would take offence to saying he should get hung because being hung is a death that is known to happen to "bad" people. As i said cancer is a well known desease that everyone can get.
Teenage Kicks!
He lost cool points for saying this south america instead of North America. I could care less about what he says anymore, he's him ya know, totally unpredictable.
Nimrod2309
I'm just having a hard time with people deciding when someone has gone too far with their comments. Why is anyone's opinion of someone else's opinion valid?

At the end of the day, yeah it was stupid, no he probably didn't mean it, not everyone's gonna like it, but what are we gonna do? Nothing. But this thread is just going round in circles now. Trotsky
Btw does anyone no what the coca cola thing is about now eveverybody do the coca cola? Coca Cola is a symbol of American globalization. Another example would be "Amerika" by Rammstein We're all living in Amerika, Amerika, Amerika We're all living in Amerika, Coca-Cola, sometimes war." Sanity Loan
Not to add to the "fire" but... his comments were totally ridiculous and unnecessary in my opinion. He stepped over the line. Jobbs is not destroying the world with technology... he's improving it. I can't agree with Billie's opinion on how "technology is ruining the world" until he gives some facts or some proof. And I think its actually pretty funny how Billie was riding the Obama train two years ago and now he thinks he can go to hell. I'm not for Obama but he did inherit a terrible situation and things weren't going to go "back to normal" in the 21 months (or so) he has been in office. Give him a break Billie... for goodness sake..

Give him a break Billie... for goodness sake.. When you're putting on a very, very crowd focused show and you've got half the audience standing there, not moving, holding up their phones and cameras, then you might be able to see just how bad technology can be. I don't excuse what he said but I do fully agree with him being pissed off at a rubbish crowd because they're letting their phones and cameras distract them. It must feel like, well, what's the point?

Sanity Loan
This kind of makes me worried about the lyrical content of the next album... I hope this doesn't foreshadow that the album is going to be overly-political.... (this may be a bit of a stretch on my part)

Its not really a stretch considering he is writing the songs for the next album now, and since thats what he seems to be obsessing about now.. its likely. Give him a break Billie... for goodness sake.. Let me explain something. A lot of us, me included are discontent with Obama. I supported Gravel in the primaries. No one thought Obama was going to be perfect. But when his opponent is a guy who is going to die soon and the most fanatically right-wing and dumbest woman in politics who could be the President, you sort of have to ride the Obama train. This kind of makes me worried about the lyrical content of the next album... I hope this doesn't foreshadow that the album is going to be overly-political.... (this may be a bit of a stretch on my part) I don't think Green Day will turn into Anti-Flag, don't worry. I'd like more songs in the lyrical framework of "East Jesus Nowhere" though.
