Billie Joe during AI in Peru

Except in this case the desired consequence is someone's death, not the cancellation of their facebook account.

Oh come on, I really really REALLY don't think he truly meant what he said and that he actually wants him to die.

It was in the heat of the moment, people say stupid shit all the time, I don't think he MEANT it. He was just probably just mad that instead of getting in to the concert experience, people were just standing around videoing it.

If I would have been at that show I probably would have been like 'Well, fuck you too, Billie.'

Idk, this angry, little man phase he got at the moment doesn't suit him.

I know everybody says things they don't really mean, but that first comment was just unnecessary.

This types of speeches are getting old. I bet he went online with his MacBook a few minutes after the show.

I really disagree with this.

He wouldn't have said it unless he meant it. Listening to the emotion in his voice, it wasn't just one of those "peru is my favourite country in the world" kind of meaningless speeches.

I think its brilliant that Billie can still get pissed off and not be afraid to show it. It's not just for show, its genuine.

Wow, after reading this thread I realized I didn't take what he said the way so many on here did. Sure the Jobs comment wasn't nice, but it certainly wasn't the point of his rant. He was truly trying to get people riled up for the concert. It was mentioned in the tour thread that the Peruvians in front of the stage didn't know most of the old songs and were just standing there (probably just taking pix and videos). So he got pissed. Typically Billie Joe Armstrong really.

It just feels like we're making a moutaing out of a molehill.

I imagine he's especially hating technology today as everyone gets to read comments he made at a concert.

Concert Billie and everywhere-else-Billie always seem different to me. He seems to wear a different personality (not really the right word but close enough) on stage. All the adrenaline and everything excites a person, so I suppose he got carried away in his rant. Definitely insensitive and not a cool thing to say. However, I can't see him ever saying something like that in a controlled, quiet interview setting (where he often comes off as shy!). I don't think he planned to say something like that, and my guess would be he regrets that part of his 'speech'. I'm not trying to excuse what was said, I'm just thinking about the circumstances.

Yeah, I've noticed that personality change (so to speak) too. He does say anti-technology stuff in interviews, but not like THAT.

it's just silly to get so upset about. i know there have been quite a few times when i've been mad enough to say i wish someone was dead, and i'm sure that's happened to almost everyone. of course i didn't actually MEAN it. it's just something that comes out in the heat of the moment. if you all actually think that billie really and truly wants someone to die of cancer, when his father died of cancer...then that's just stupid. he was mad. people say shit like that all the time. get over it.

I'm not upset myself about this, because i sure as hell have gotten mad and screamed and said things i dont mean to friends/family. I'm just saying this is not like the facebook thing, no one had a problem with that at all, they just didnt do it. It's not comparable, other than the fact that... well, billie said it.

Anyway, everyone slips up and says/does something they regret later - often immediately after :pinch:.

maybe he will apologize on twitter^^

and we have the right to say that he talked shit

he shouldn't be put up on a pedestal and expected to never get angry and to never say anything that his fans don't agree with. he's not perfect either.

this

people put him on a REALLLYYYY high pedestal.

locally, hes known a little differently.

Well, yes, but some people are just blowing this completely out of proportion.

Neither do I, it would be stupid to think so. I just meant at face value, what he has said here isn't comparable to his "quit facebook" tweet, and thats why people are responding to it.

they play a lot more big shows than small shows.

Yeah, but that's their choice. The fact that they do play small places sometimes shows that they're able to play them if they want to. If they miss it they can do it!

Just because they dont care about everything else he says doesn't mean they wouldn't have a lot to say about THIS. to quote Andres, people love to bitch.

but its kind of pointless if nobody cares isnt it?

he said both things to get a point across. people just want to get all pissy over nothing, but whatever.

Well, I didn't really mean he didn't mean it, but more that his speech went over the top, it was too much imo. Yeah, so genuine that he'll probably tweet about it in a few days. Really, he can't say stuff like he did and update his twitter all the time and like to do stuff like GD Rockband. It doesn't make any sense to me.

people really do seem to think he's perfect for some reason. i mean, he's a great musician and i'm sure he's a nice guy but i can guarantee he's no better than the rest of us.

i mean, after this video surfaced people all over tumblr were talking about how they didn't respect him anymore and blah blah and i'm just like really? because of one stupid comment said at a concert most of us weren't even at?

LOL he built a career on being an angry little man XD

Im just glad this didnt happen at one of the really high profiled shows like Wembly.. he would of gotten in trouble if it hit the media the wrong way or something =/

Nobody cared about st Jimmy, i guess thats why he killed himself

also, what's MOTSO?

My opinion is that the Steve Jobs part was disgraceful, and being someone who has lost someone close to me through cancer I am pretty disgusted by that.

But having said that I completely agree with what he said about technology. People waste so much time behind computer screens, watching tv or playing video games, too much time in my opinion. I am definitely one of these people. But I have done without video games for almost a year and I was in a way addicted to them. I was the type of person that would stay up playing video games until my eyes were bloodshot. But since I was forced to give them up when my console broke and it has been such a relief, I have so much time for other things it is great for me personally.

But my point is I agree with Billie on the technology aspect
