Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 lol, "I'm a bigger fan because I pay more money to join the club" reminds me of Scientology.
ampisthename Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 the real fan club? a swindle that the band very obviously don't give a shit about and gives virtually nothing back for the £13 spent apart from a lacklustre forum and a few worthless competitions? yeah, sounds a pretty attractive prospect to me. i seem to be overly dramatic? jesus christ, is that meant to be some kind of scathing insult? what do you even mean by that, because it's a pretty odd thing to say haha and no, i'm not slammin green day; i love the band to bits, or else i wouldn't be posting on this forum, i just sensed a decline in immediate mainstream popularity and wanted to hear other fans' opinion on the matter, you overreactive cunt. If you stayed for more than pre-sales, you would know that it's not a rip off. Yes, I admit that I do have a tendency to overreact, but you pretty much just called what I consider my family, stupid. You should probably admit that you were a little bit over the top calling all of us dim-witted, because we didn't respond right away. You don't know us, and I don't know you. I say we stop judging each other, after all we're all fans
Nickofsuburbia Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 FLAME WAR! in other news... even though 21CB wasnt as big as AI, the two shows that I went to this year looked pretty much sold out to me theyre still very popular even though they arent on the radio or in the news as much and thats just because 21CB wasnt at the same level as AI honestly ive never met a person that hasnt heard a Green Day song literally everyone knows them 21CB was just not as big as AI and thats the only reason GD have "lost" popularity

They have "$20 gets you.....Exclusive photos, video and audio" on the sign up page but that is an out-and-out lie, they're deliberately misleading people and ripping them off by having that lie written there. I see we still haven't got the band's answers to those top 5 questions we submitted either.......which isn't surprising because the band never does anything for the IC. I agree the forum and the forum member/mods are great, I'm not sure why it gets badmouthed on here because there's a lot of intelligent discussion on there. But the IC is a HUGE rip off!
GreenDayRose Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 posted this in IC, but they're all fucking slow and mainly mentally deficient, so time to post it here What an idiotic thing to say. They aren't less popular, just the real fans are the ones that stuck around when 21stCB came around. The little teeny "OMG BILLIE IS SO HAWT" fans have now understood that Green Day isn't a "poster boy band" and they've mostly fucked off... thank god. So, so what if they aren't selling out Wembley, I was just glad that I didn't have any little kids around me screaming "I LOVE YOU BILLIE" and I had some real fans that knew all the lyrics to the old songs. I don't care if they end up playing some small shows with just the real fans, tbh I would rather that than have everyone kissing their ass because they are "good looking" and are the "in thing". If you look on youtube the band did answer fans questions a few years ago for the IC. I have won early entry from the IC, plus met people I now call my best friends. The IC maybe $20 but can you really put a price on being at the barrier? Plus being able to by your tickets first and having other amazing offers? I know they don't update it as often as GDA but I think it's still worth it.

Yeah, but people are paying $20 now and getting nothing from the band. It's really just the fact that they're falsely advertising things they know full well they're not going to provide on the sign up page that annoys me. People who aren't going to the shows that have contests or presales join for the things they falsely promise on that list. I'd still think it was a rip off if they changed the wording so it wasn't a lie, but they could at least be honest about what they're offering. /my millionth IC rant

I guess if you are only going to use it for the chat room it's not really worth it when you can come on here for free but the last thing they did which was good was to give IC members the chance to order front row seats for St. Billie which I think you can only get from lotto or some ridiculous price, so if you look at it that way it is worth it. I must admit it's not as good as it used to be but when the time comes I'll renew, you just don't come across those kinda opportunities on any other site, and it's already given me my money back in the form of winning early entry for Manchester.

I think it's worth joining if you know about a specific presale or contest you want to enter and think it's worth the money just for that, or if you live in New York haha. I was happy to pay just for the presales and chance at early entry. But the fact is people who aren't eligible for any of those things must join thinking they'll get cool things like videos from the band, and end up just getting a forum (which a lot of bands provide free) and literally nothing else for their money. I've paid $40 and had no exclusive video or audio - and I'm pretty sure they're not going to provide it any time soon so they shouldn't be promising it. I just think they should make clear exactly what they're offering instead of deliberately misleading people into joining. But they won't, because then people would see the truth of how little they'll really get and wouldn't hand their money over
GenerationZer0 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Who cares? Now are the teenies are gone and all the hardcore fans are left :eyebrow: No more: " OMG Billy Jo is damn hot" or "The bass player is ugly" Mike is not ugly. Pfft. They are not less popular. They're just less.... aghhh I can't think of the right word, but American Idiot is gone and 21 Guns is considered "extremely old" now because it's a year old (which annoys me incredibly muchly, although I never liked 21 Guns all that much...) and pretty much what everyone else has said that the little OMG!!! people are gone and the real fans are still here. I will admit that I was originally an OMG!!! BOULEVARD OF BROKEN DREAMS! AMERICAN IDIOT! person but then I discovered Dookie, and damn that album is good.
Burnout98 Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 Green day have not lost popularity... i feel sad....this the 87th post on this topic....

I say we stop judging each other, after all we're all fans i agree yeah, sorry, i got a bit angry, peace but i really still don't see how it isn't a rip off. all the videos are available on youtube/the main gd site, it's a pretty lackluster forum and the competitions are pretty useless unless you live in america or have the money to shell out to travel all the way to new york and back for one specific musical. about the main topic, i think that in a way, green day have settled into kind of, elder statesmen legend roles. they're not as immediately popular with mtv/radio 1 type outlets, but they're now a sort of benchmark by which you can measure popular rock music, and a band that a hell of a lot of people still listen to. i really know very few people who've never heard of green day, and i think the whole american idiot era secured them a lasting legacy. that said, they have lost a bit of their "drive", probably thanks to the fact that the marketing for 21cb was pretty poor.
E!!i Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 And yeah, in '04 and '05 they were everyone's babies basically. A lot of those fans have moved on. I had a girlfriend with who I used to write letters and she became a Green Day fan in the american idiot era like me but since...I think it was a year ago...she's not a fan anymore and she doesn't write me anymore
AnnA™ Posted October 29, 2010 Posted October 29, 2010 American Idiot was a huge event in their career that attracted a lot of new fans, naturally. I think a lot of those, however, would get bored and move on eventually. Many seem to think that they're being redundant nowadays with 21st Century Breakdown. That's the impression I've got anyway. And not having as much radio appeal and so on adds to it. But then I never expected them to top that hype surrounding American Idiot. I don't think it's a bad thing at all. More for the real fans that will stick around.
Smoothed Out Posted October 31, 2010 Posted October 31, 2010 posted this in IC, but they're all fucking slow and mainly mentally deficient, so time to post it here haha harsh but anyway I think people temd to lose interest after AI died down because of the wait that was involved between that and 21stCB, also when it was released I think people were expecting more of a AI clone (like most popular artists do these days, churning out the same crap once a year) That put certain `fans` off I think
Axel Posted November 1, 2010 Posted November 1, 2010 Green Day still has a lot of annoying teenie fans
Eighty. Posted November 2, 2010 Posted November 2, 2010 Maybe but I don't really care xD The true fans are the ones who never forget them
The Platypus! Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I don't know why they're not as popular they still have the same good music maybe the singles weren't picked right.

That's a good way of seeing it, and I agree with you. Can't say I'm really bothered by the fact that there are fewer fans this time around, because like many people have said, that just leaves more for us XD The people that don't like Green Day are the ones missing out. Their loss. Though I do agree that 21st Century Breakdown had deserved much more of a hype than what it got.
Nickofsuburbia Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I don't know why they're not as popular they still have the same good music maybe the singles weren't picked right. i agree
BUBBA7012 Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Some people in my school hate Green Day for no reason. And I ask them why and they say their "faggots", and they havent even listened to any of their songs. I'm starting to think its cool to not like green day. -_____-
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 Some people in my school hate Green Day for no reason. And I ask them why and they say their "faggots", and they havent even listened to any of their songs. I'm starting to think its cool to not like green day. -_____- Well, it is tbh, it's never been cool to like Green Day as far as I know, doesn't bother me though as I've never known a band to be hated for the most ridiculous reasons. I judge them on two things: the albums and the live shows. The singles, the videos, the musical, the Warner publicity campaigns don't make any difference to me, people in the know realise that they are a great album band who don't just make albums as back up to 1 or 2 hit singles, and have the best live show in the world. How many people realise this is pretty irrelevant to me as long as they still continue to make great albums and play great shows. If not, well I always have the first 8 albums to enjoy.
Slappy. Posted November 5, 2010 Posted November 5, 2010 I think for all the fans they might have lost over the years, they have gained other fans. Like for example on BIAB when Mike says something about a few new faces in the crowd that aren't familiar with Longview (something along those words) Just cos Green Day aren't on the TV every minute like *cough* Justine Beaver, it doesn't mean their losing popularity.
Red Lights Flash Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 Well they're definitely not that popular right now - at least not for their singles (the live shows are still a success). You'd think that they'll never top AI, but then again I remember all reviews being like "what the hell happened?" when AI came out - cause nobody thought they'd release a masterpiece 10 years after Dookie (especially since most critics considered them dead after Warning, with the compilation albums etc).
anya. Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 They are losing the popularity at the moment, probably because of not so good 21st Century Breakdown.. I like it sometimes, when not everyone is liking them around me, I mean I like that people know me for being a Green Day fan and I hate when people around me are saying they also like Green Day, when they know just that American Idiot exists.. Anyways, they'll always have some fans, the fans that will never ''left'' them even if they do some shitty album noone will like.. American Idiot or Dookie era can come again with another album, I believe that but I'm not very happy looking forward to it. (I would love a new album, but that it won't be as popular as those two, just very good and it's enough)
NoManCanEat50drumsticks Posted November 9, 2010 Posted November 9, 2010 They don't care too much if the popularity it isn't always at the top...they do songs because they want to and hope we like them :-) If we don't, they won't care probably too much...
