Gwen Stacy Posted October 26, 2010 Author Posted October 26, 2010 ^^ Ah! someone agrees with me! I'm not crazy... well, I am, but this isn't why
kate_ochoxx Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 Kerplunk You can actully hear Mikes voice and wayyy more raw LOVE IT
Hermione Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I know some people prefer the "raw" sound of the earlier stuff. Just never been my preference. I don't generally prefer the sound of their earlier stuff. But for this particular song I do. It's not only an old song but a song specifically about being a teenager living in rough and ready surroundings - so that old raw sound is SO much more appropriate for the song. Nothing to do with preferring the rawer old sound or the clearer new sound, it's just what fits for the individual song. Which in this case is the fabulous original and authentic version
Isabel Posted October 26, 2010 Posted October 26, 2010 I much prefer the sound of the Dookie version, but only because I had been listening to it for 3 years before I heard the Kerplunk version so it was hard to equally appreciate something of a less polished sound.
-Billiejoezee- Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I like the dookie version because Its after Longview so it goes with the whole "Take me away to paradise" thing. AND it's right before pulling teeth. :eyebrow:
Rachel Nimrod Armstrong Posted October 27, 2010 Posted October 27, 2010 I prefer the Dookie version! But then i also like the Kerplunk version! But i voted for the Dookie version tho lol!
Reberebel96 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 You mean pole* Lol yeah Pole I'm an idiot
LouLou Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Arg! Hard one! I can never decide which one I like better...at the moment, as usually, I like the Kerplunk better
SarahRamone Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Dookie The guitar riff just comes out so much more pronounced on the Dookie version. Not to mention, Tre changes up his fills in the Dookie version, and they are even better than the kerplunk ones!
cityof_lust17 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Kerplunk version...i like to hear it raw like at a show...always better for me.
Burnout98 Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I just think that the Dookie version is better because it sounds a bit better because the sounds come out cleaner other than the Kerplunk! version But i still think the Kerplunk! version is great too!!
6Packofapathy Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 I prefer the Kerplunk! version. Yes, I am indeed one of those people who like the 'raw' sound. But, that's not the main reason I prefer the Kerplunk! version. Some of my main reasons are; It seems so much more upbeat. It's like, when they re-recorded it for dookie, they slowed it down a bit. I don't know. Also, you hear the drums more. I don't think you hear the drums enough in the dookie version. Also, Billie Joe's voice in the dookie one sounds sad and bored, but in the Kerplunk! one, it just sounds so much more adventurous and, as stated before, upbeat. Don't get me wrong, I love the dookie version as much as the next guy, but when compared to the Kerplunk! version, it just seems a little lacking, in my opinion.
porksoda Posted October 28, 2010 Posted October 28, 2010 Am I crazy, or was there a Kerplunk version that had the track starting out with Mike's bass interlude? I seem to remember hearing it a lot way back when and I can't find it now. Maybe I'm crazy
green day climber Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Sounds a tad bit better on Dookie, for reasons most of you have already said; it has more attitude, it's more aggressive, which I prefer with this song. Always best live though. agree with this exactly
Laura! Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 Dookie version. I've always preferred this version over the Kerplunk one.
AndrewW91 Posted November 10, 2010 Posted November 10, 2010 I like the Kerplunk version better. I do like that it sounds more raw, and I like the vocals better.
Hermione Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I like the dookie version because Its after Longview so it goes with the whole "Take me away to paradise" thing. AND it's right before pulling teeth. :eyebrow: Ha! All the more reason to skip it :eyebrow: I do enjoy the double paradise thing though . That's the only plus of the Dookie version.
FiaKels Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 Dookie. For some reason, I always found the distortion to be more muffled on the Kerplunk! version. Like some one's put a bag over the amps. Plus, that's the first version I heard.
Zelda Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 I love both, but I prefer the Dookie version. The vocal harmonies are just better, imo.
BadgerLALA Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 The Dookie version but I still like the Keplunk
GuitarPunk94 Posted November 11, 2010 Posted November 11, 2010 i like the version at kerplunk better because its rougher and mike's bass sounds a bit better than the "cleaner" version at dookie
