Isabel Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I was on the barrier for the Halloween show in Manchester and during Minority, Billie came right over to my side of the catwalk and sang the "Blinded by the silence of a thousand broken hearts" line while looking at me. Well I, thinking I was being fairly class, decided to do the hand over the eyes thing that he does in the video when he sings that particular line. So anyway, the moment came and just as I was about to do it, he got there before me. Well it threw me off and I ended up doing it too late, on the "For crying out loud" line. And when I took my hand away, he was still looking at me. I thought "Ohhhh my god Isabel, you idiot!!"
xjernpqvrnbfv Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Ankward? Hell no. When Billie looked at me, he looked sooo happy and smiled at me, cause y'know I was screaming the lyrics to 2000 light years away. haha
Hermione Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 YESSSS. During the Foxboro show in April I was standing really close to the stage, with only 1 person in front of me. Anyway, at one point Billie was standing at the edge of the stage, kind of bent forward, and he was like right in my face. He was starting at me and singing at me for like 30 seconds, and i was like "uhhhh...this is cool, but ummm...stop? " Same exact thing happened to me , but as he had a beer in his hand I had the bright idea to stop singing after a while and open my mouth wide instead . The eye contact stopped when beer went in my eyes. The singing part was just the most surreal thing in the world though, I'm sure you'd agree!
Guest Mia Joe Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 When I had eye contact with the Rev it wasn't awkward because we were both singing and then he was pouring beer in my mouth. So it wasn't just eye contact, other stuff was going on that prevented any awkwardness. And we'd both been drinking haha. And then with Billie at Wembley it was just a spilt second glance so there wasn't any chance for awkwardness there either. But if it was eye contact without a "purpose", like you just happened to be looking at each other, I can imagine it feeling awkward. For me anyway . I can imagine if it was me in that situation with Tre I'd feel all shy and look away. I kind of felt like that when Jason White was right in front of us at the O2 and my sister and I simultaneously waved at him and he smiled and nodded at us. We went all silly and giggly Man that must've been an awesome experience, I want the Rev's beer too!
Satan Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 what did you wear? a black tank top over a lime green shirt, a blue and red plaid skirt with tights and black converse with blue and yellow laces XD yeah, it was my first concert, i thought everyone would dress crazy ah well it was damn fun
Opezi Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I was too busy freaking out to notice, to be honest Didn't you pass out?
Micky Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Didn't you pass out? As a consequence of freaking out too much, yes I did But the first time I didn't
Pedestrian9394 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 a black tank top over a lime green shirt, a blue and red plaid skirt with tights and black converse with blue and yellow laces XD yeah, it was my first concert, i thought everyone would dress crazy ah well it was damn fun xD that's awesome. I was a total wimp and refused to wear my brand-new neon orange converse with blue and green laces to the show. I was like, fuck it. Not gettin these dirty. Hahaha. Speaking of people wearing crazy things to concerts, we saw 3 girls who must have been 11 or 12 at the show who had written "I want Billie Joe in my pants" on their arms and legs....
Opezi Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 As a consequence of freaking out too much, yes I did But the first time I didn't Lmfao Micky. but still, you're very lucky.
Marlee Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 If i ever made eye contact with the band, i doubt i would ever think of it as 'awkward'
NothingButYourImagination Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I think I might have for a split second at the FBHT show at Don Hill's with The Rev. But that night was such a blur to me from all the excitement I can't say for sure.
Maura99 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Mm yes, it felt kinda awkward... I'm still quite convinced Mike yelled something in my direction at some point. I didn't respond to it, since I didn't understand it. That was a weird moment for a second there. But it felt nice when he pounded on his chest with his fist, like he does, and looked at us. Mike's such a sweetheart. He winked at my friend; it still makes her smile to this very day. O, and my friend yelled 'Adie!' once, when Billie was about to play 80, and she pointed out to us. Lovely huh? I don't remember making much eye contact with Billie... I don't even remember a time that he actually stood still in front of us... that man is always running around on stage like he's on fire.
EvanAsFuck Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 haha, has happened a bunch of times to me... but they've never been awkward! Just amazing!:
Crazy Zombie Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 lol, some awesome stories! Mine wasn't really akward either XD 2 weeks ago i went to see AI again while Billie was there, and towards the end of it as they were all bowing (just before Good Riddance) Billie was looking around and i was wearing a fluffy hat with ears for some reason and he looked up and me and laughed, so i waved, and he waved back.
kristinsinferno Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I was watching afi opening at the Virginia show, and for a solid five seconds I made eye contact with davey havoc. Then I gave him this awefull fake smile and a sarcastic thumbs up. I felt so bad because after I did it his voice broke.... A lot. Also during the first song of green days set, I looked at Billie for the whole two lines of "I was made of poison and blood. Condemnation is what I understood." amazing, in itself. But while he sang it I gave him this spazzy wave and crazy smile and he cracked up laughing! Oh how I love Billie.
TheSaltOfTheEarth Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 damn, I WISH I could make eye contact with the band, awkward or otherwise
greenday801440 Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Actually, this happened to me a lot during the shows the Hartford and Mansfield Shows I went to. The first time happened when I was at the barrier and I happened to look at Tre while he was playing and he was staring at me...(and I agree to whoever said Tre makes creepy faces while playing...because it was so funny I just made a funny face back at him) The second time happened during Viva La Gloria and Billie practically serenaded me with "She is the saint of all the sinners" and I was just singing the words back at him and he wouldn't break eye contact XD The third time wasn't really awkward, just memorable, I was the first onstage during One For The Razorbacks and I ran over to Billie and he just gave me a huge smile and was just like, staring at me while shredding on Blue. All in all, I don't really think these experiences were awkward...just amazing! OHHHH!! And I totally forgot since I spent the whole show in front of Jason W. I kept staring at HIM because he's always so serious while playing! So I tried to loosen him up and I kept like, staring at him on purpose so he would smile....But I think he feels that the band is mostly Billie, Tre, and Mike, so he, like, doesn't interact as much with the crowd, y'know? By the end of the night he FINALLY smiled at me XD That's what I get I suppose! It was great!
misslyssx Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I made eye contact with Billie at 2 shows this year when he asked for my glasses and then gave them back. Nothing about it was awkward, more like amazing. It anything was awkward it would be trying to high five Jason while he was playing but in return getting a fist bump from him
Hermione Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Man that must've been an awesome experience, I want the Rev's beer too! It was amazing! I REEKED of beer the next morning, he soaked my hair from root to tip. But wait is that you being serenaded by Billie on his knees? I wouldn't mind some of that!
farley drexel hatcher Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I did have eye contact with Billie last year XD I can't remember what song it was in, but it wasn't a singing part because he was standing in front of me doing some kind of solo, and I was grinning like an idiot and so was he. And then I realized he was grinning at me and I grinned even more, then so did he XD it was brief but awesome. It was that proper goofy grin he gets. And then I saw Jason Freese in London with his wife and baby and when I looked back he was looking at me, lol.
Fanny. Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 None of the eye contacts I've had with the band were awkward When Mike came to our side this summer singing Shout he looked straight at me and smiled. (: And when we were screaming to hear Jason White sing during Shout, Billie looked at me laughing. At the show last year, during Are we the waiting, Billie came at the end of the catwalk, sat on his knees and looked straight at me while singing! I'm sure to make eye contact with Tre is something amazing Didn’t happen to me yet though. haha, has happened a bunch of times to me... but they've never been awkward! Just amazing!: http://img121.imageshack.us/img121/9303/staref.jpg You spent an awesome time up on stage Evan, am I right
lastnightonGDA Posted October 17, 2010 Author Posted October 17, 2010 I know it sounds weird when i say awkward. but you know when you and some stranger make eye contact for a few seconds and then you both look away quickly. And after you think "what the fuck just happened?"....that's what it was like. but I didn't expect that to happen with Tre because he's not really a stranger.....thats why it was weird and after i was thinking to myself "wtf just happened?" as well. y'know?
*Maria_Laura* Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 I'd love awkward eye contact with Tre me too !
Nickofsuburbia Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 i would end up trying to have an awkward contest with any of the members but unfortunately the times ive seen Green Day I have been to far away to have an awkward moment
Holly Posted October 17, 2010 Posted October 17, 2010 Haha, seems so weird to describe it as awkward Although I can kind of see where you're coming from. I've never made eye contact with Green Day but when I went to see Arctic Monkeys I made eye contact with Alex Turner and at one point the drummer (shows how much of a fan I am.. don't even know his name) and it was a bit awkward I guess. Like, you just stare at them because thats what you do when they're the band and you're the fan, but if they're looking back at you its just strange. I don't think it would be the same with Green Day though, if I had their eye contact I definitely wouldn't look away, I'd probs try and get their attention properly or something. At Leeds I made eye contact quite a lot with Frank Turner and I had met him earlier in the day so I think he seemed more like a normal person to me, every time we made eye contact I just grinned at him as if he was my friend or something He is just lovely though
