GreenDayisAmazing Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 I really love both. It depends on the day sometime I'm more into Dookie or Kerplunk or 1039, but sometime I'm into AI, 21st Century or Uno, dos and Tre'. I love it all everything from 1039-Tre'!
greenday_jlb Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 I like bits from old and new school but if I had to pick I would say new, the days of dookie and such didn't really draw me in
greenday_jlb Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 New, old, who gives a shit? its all good Nods in agreement
DannyDirnt Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Someone people should stop saying there's no old or new. You all get the point so pick one.
IsaGreenDay Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 Both, but I don't think there's the "old" and the "new" Green Day, it's just Green Day.
Slave To The Network Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 I really love their old stuff and I really love the newer stuff. Green Day is just a top quality band all around no matter when their music is made! They're the best!
Marko Knezevik Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 I love both old and new Green Day... I love them because of their energy they have when they're on stage, because of their sense of humor, habits, opinions, I actually love their brains (not in a zombie way)! It's obvious that their music has changed through the years, as they grow up as a band, but there's nothing wrong with that, it's still amazing, creative and powerful as it was, and always will be x) (I'm sorry if there are some grammar mistakes, my english isn't perfect :/)
The Governator Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Wait, American Idiot is 9 years old now. Is that "old" Green Day?
dangreenday Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Old Green day is the best but i still give everything they have ever done 10/10 I love it all !
SmoothedOut Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Now I know Green Day is just Green Day but if you want to be more specific now then: MUSICALLY: I think both of these eras share that same powerful sound. That Green Day sound. They were great, and still are great in creating their music and playing it live. LYRICALLY: As much as I care about the world, I'd leave it to politicians, and Green Day and Green Day only to teach me about politics at a rock concert. However, I'd probably lean to their older songwriting because the way they used to write about the things they used to write about is just very appealing to me. There's no "She's an extraordinary girl" or "He hit the ground running/at the speed of light". But there's a lot of "I'm taking, all you down with me" and "Sometimes I give myself the creeps" and "Bite my lip and close my eyes/take me away to paradise/I'm so damn bored I'm going blind" and I guess it really feels awesome inside to sing along with lyrics like that. I do understand why they sang in third person during the rock opera days though and they're brilliant poets! INVOLVEMENT IN THE MEDIA AND ELSEWHERE: I know in 2004 there was talk of them growing up and all that and so they released the ambitious and the more mainstream accepted 'American Idiot' which really dealt with serious matters. During that time, they got a lot of media exposure as well. They were all over MTV doing interviews and stuff like that, Nickelodeon, playing with Snoop Dogg at some New Year's Party, Billie playing with Slash, Bono, Steven Tyler, and etc., doing a lot of TV stints. The band DESERVED all these achievements and step ups in their career but quietly, I will have preferred them to stay the way they were back in the 90s. They didn't seem to like getting exposed and kept things short and tidy during interviews and stayed out of the public. Also, they didn't get any 'fake' fans. You get so many people listening to Green Day now and not all of them are share the same ethics as you do. Not that no one has the right to listen to anything they want, and that every person should agree with the other, but there is no doubt a common ground between the hardcore fans and that's something to appreciate and to look forward to. The band deserves as well to have a following of people who share the same views as they do. Does anyone think that anyone who was at that iHeart Radio performance would take their time to go down to a place like, say, 924 Gilman and mingle among the crowds of outcasts who came to know Green Day by going their initially? There's a lot of people out there right now who categorize Green Day as just another band and add them to their list of 'other bands and artists that have no substance'. Okay no wait. There's just too many dumb people out there who do dumb things and listen to dumb music and lay their filthy paws on Green Day just because they're 'popular'. Luckily, we're all hardcore fans here at the GDC. I'd be fine if we were Green Day's only fans in the world. The Ramones, are one example of a band that has kept an exclusive fanbase. There's no in between with them. One type of person thinks the Ramones are great and the other type of person just really hates them. And the people classified as 'dumb'? Well they just don't bother listening to the Ramones just because they don't know them or would probably never, ever hear them ever.
kathhh8 Posted June 13, 2013 Posted June 13, 2013 Older Green Day.. but the era changes depending on my mood
Insomniac85 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 Everything from 39 Smooth to American Idiot is golden to me. so yeah I would say old Green Day.
ThibautDookie Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It depends for all the fans. I like the new Green Day but for funny interviews and awesome live shows with young members of Green Day on speed and playing soo fast, i would say old. New Green Day is still here to show that the members take and play still together. Old Green Day is the nostalgia with the young members, the completely mind-blowing shows and punk attitude.
Ross_19 Posted June 14, 2013 Posted June 14, 2013 It's all amazing, the older material, and the new material. All of it is fucking awesome!
