I really wish I'd been at one of the shows where they'd played this song, I second everyone saying the lyrics are amazing, lol. And of course the drums at the beginning. It's a great intro.

I was just discussing the name of the song the other day... we were looking it up in the dictionary because we didn't think it could possibly be anything to do with the toilet people, but now I can see how it's a metaphor. I'm sure the sink in my old house was made by Armitage Shanks

Sorry, what?

In KYE, Billie Joe sings "do you know the enemy, do you know your enemy, well gotta know the enemy rahey". Just like the rahey or wahey or whatever the fuck he sings isn't really a word, just a sound, I think the same counts for the sound in Armatage Shanks.

I'm 99.9999% positive that in KYE he's singing "right here". Makes sense to the extent that it completes the call-forward/call-back between KYE and RHS (and sometimes when it's performed live, Billie points at himself when he sings that. KYE asks "Do you know your enemy", RHS replies "you are your own worst enemy", and KYE acknowledges with "right here". "Raw ham" is a helluvalot funnier though. :)

Interesting theory. It definitely fits. I've never seen Billie do that, but if you say so, haha. Although I don't think he really sings "right here", it really sounds an awful lot like "rahey", but that's just Billie's mumbling, there's a good chance it's meant to be "right here". Never thought of that!

Another thing on that matter, in the musical they clearly sing "wahey" (with a w, instead of an r, which is what Billie does (both on the album, live, and as St. Billie). Dunno if it has anything to do with what the lyric is (or whether it's a lyric or just a sound), but I noticed it.

mmmm this would be a brilliant song live. I love everything about it.

I love Billie's little "Tsuu" thing

Such an amazing song

The song got it's name when Billie went to the toilet during a session for Steve Lamacq's radio show (BBC)- he saw the name Armitage Shanks on the toilet, and the rest is history-misspelling and all. i'm sure the story is in a book written by Steve.

I'm a bit late, but anyway, I just have to say that this was such a great opening song for the Insomniac album, It sums up the overall mood of the album in just that one 2 minute song. The music and words to this song fit together perfectly.

I like this song. It's a great opener to Insomniac, and highly relatable.

I really like this song. It's probably my favourite off Insomniac and is up there as one of my favourite songs of theirs. I always think of it when i see an Armitage Shanks sink/toilet and get excited when i do so.

J'net - after you finish recovering from your CR trip - new song please! :)

I've always thought this song would've made a really good single. I remember someone saying that this could've been the next Basket Case and I completely agree.

Yes, I haven't forgotten. But this has been a difficult recovery. I was traveling the week before I went to Costa Rica, then went straight there. Altogether I was seriously sleep-deprived for about 10 days straight. When I got home, I felt like I'd been hit by a truck. I'm slowly recovering as I get a few more hours of good sleep each night.

I've got a new song planned for Monday, so stay tuned :).

I never liked this song until it was the Song of the Week, then I really got into it. Great to drive to.

I must insist on being a pessimist

I like this song a lot... Some would even go so far as to say that I love it...

I love this song so much :) great choice for song of the week! It's one of the best openings of one of their albums. And also love the random name! Haha, toilet theme! :)

To be honest, I've never been into that song, but that doesn't mean I don't like it at all. It's good.

Agreed with this song's amazingness. The lyrics are so perfect, they're so poetic in a pretty fucked-up way.

And we have Armatage Shanks sinks at school
