Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Of course you are, everybody can find the whole Cologne-show in the downloadsection, and I'm pretty sure the Manchester gig as well, at least did I download it from there I meant those are the only ones that are allowed, I also used the audio from the DVD and the 21 Guns Live EP which are copyrighted or whatever.
The Snark Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 It's #9 on the Scottish Top 10 Albums. I checked both the Billboard and Top 40 US charts and can't find it, though.
EvanAsFuck Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 just got the album yesterday, listened to it in the car. great track list and im looking forward to watching the dvd however, billie sounds really autotuned. and this is what annoys me. green day do NOT need autotune. so why put it on the whole album? D: so yeah, i'm pretty bummed out about this. Go through the last like 5-10 pages of this thread... Auto-Tune is very scarcely actually used, you're probably mostly hearing the difference in microphones that Billie uses or some sort of effect or just post-production blah blah stuff... At least that's what I think...
Margo 39 smooth Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 im probably really late in the conversation but...STATIC AGE ON THE DVD IS SO EPIC!! i mean they're all good but that one just blows my mind.
EvanAsFuck Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I wanna know about the US! It's not on the charts here at all... We suck! im probably really late in the conversation but...STATIC AGE ON THE DVD IS SO EPIC!! i mean they're all good but that one just blows my mind. Agreed! I love the segway into it from Holiday, something about it just sounds amazing...
Margo 39 smooth Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Static Age is incredible live with Jason F.'s sax solo. I suppose you could say this about quite a few songs on 21CB, but I wish it had been released as a single. Probably would've been a successful one, and then we'd have a much better chance of hearing it again on future tours. ya definitely
November's Storms Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Its not a contest...but at #8 in the album charts Ireland seems to be winning I think the title will probably boost sales. Even if Green Day were just a band that I quite liked I'd probably buy an album with such a promising title
Countrygirl Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Haven't listened to the CD yet or watched the whole DVD. So freakin' busy lately.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Its not a contest...but at #8 in the album charts Ireland seems to be winning We're close with #9, though! still don't know how the fuck it's possible with the zero promotion but oh well.
koolkev Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Seems like they played all the songs more strait-through. Not as many pauses where they screw around etc. Like it better that way, more than BIAB. (still like the messing around though.. )
koolkev Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 ^^very true. I just bought the DVD on iTunes, so the quality isn't wonderful.
Emma H Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Well, I've gotten through my first watch of Awesome as Fuck. First and foremost, don't get me wrong: I enjoyed it. But not as much as was hoping I would. I'm new to this forum, so allow me to share a bit about myself quickly so you know where I'm coming from. I'm a long time fan, I have memories of being four years old and sitting in my older brother's room as he secretly played Dookie on his tape deck because my parents didn't want him to have it. I can't say that I'm a life long fan, because my love of Green Day was only really awoken in about sixth grade when I came across International Superhits! and worked backwards and forwards from there. Probably like many of you, Green Day means incredible amounts to me; more than what I can really put into coherent words. They've been with me through the good and bad times. I can't thank them enough for what they've done. Now moving on to Awesome as Fuck. I had the incredible experience of seeing the 21st Century Breakdown tour four times. It's true that you really never forget your first time. I really don't have to say that they put on an incredible show. It's mind blowing. Every show is special in it's own way and the boys never cease to amaze me. I'm sure that a good few can vouch for me and agree that even when you're in the nose bleed seats, you're on your feet the entire time and feel a connection to the band and everyone else there that's unlike anything else. I was really hoping that Awesome as Fuck would try to recreate the intimacy of being elbow to sweaty elbow with all the other fans and under Billie Joe's masterful command of the audience. I was disappointed in that respect, especially given how much I adore Bullet in a Bible. As a filmmakers, Bullet in a Bible is a concert documentary that is pretty damn well next to perfect for me. Well, let me step back. I can't really call BIAB a concert documentary. It's like it's two separate films, a concert and a doc, married into, what for me was a magical experience. It is, at is heart, a telling of a band's experience of playing their largest show to date and then, of course, the show. Not only was the concert memorable, the 'behind the scenes' footage humanized the band in a way that really proved what down-to-earth people they really are. For me, that gave me an instant connection to them while they played at Milton Keynes. At that point, I had never been to a Green Day concert, but I really got a lot of insight of the experience of a Green Day concert. When I sat down to watch Awesome as Fuck for the first time, after having experienced first hand the intimacy of a Green Day concert, I was hoping to feel and see what I had been through last year. The anticipation, the urge to get to my feet and mosh along with the crowd in my head, being under Billie Joe's control, and enjoying the on-stage antics and anecdotes. I didn't really get any of that. I really can't explain exactly why I feel this way. In short, if I was going to try and convince a friend to come along to a Green Day concert with me, this is not the proof I would present. I feel like the concert performed in AAF is a very run of the mill, any band can perform like this experience. And it pains me to say so. AAF doesn't really show off the real Green Day concert experience. Coupled with that, I really don't think Japan was the greatest place to film this concert. Is it too much to ask to have the an American band film a show in America? I can only really hope that Billie Joe's typical interactions were simply edited out of the film. But if that was really the case, it takes away from the whole show. And isn't the point of a live show to show the concert as it was meant to be enjoyed? Maybe I'm just getting nit-picky at this point. Again, please don't get me wrong- I did enjoy the AAF DVD. From a purely filmmaking stand point, I much prefer this concert footage to that of BIAB. It's much more raw and, for lack of a better word, punk. The editing style made the music. Do I wish it was less of the 'Billie Joe Show'? Yes. As we all know, Billie maybe the front man, but even he knows he'd be nowhere without Mike, Tré, Jason and the rest of the crew. And of course there were moments when I was pulled right into the AAF concert and was thrown right into the memory of being at the shows. 'When I Come Around' is the highlight of the show for me. With the opening chords I was right back in Madison Square Garden going insane. I just wish there were more moments like that for me. Now, the CD is amazing in my mind. I can't even begin to express how much I like it. While the BIAB CD was just the concert without the image, AAF created the global experience of the tour. That, and whenever I listen to both 'Christie Road' and 'Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?' I know that somewhere, deep in the layers of the insane crowds, I'm screaming along with Green Day from the nosebleed seats. And that, to me, is what the Green Day experience is- being apart of something more massive than yourself but still feeling that connection to your favorite band.
idc Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I meant those are the only ones that are allowed, I also used the audio from the DVD and the 21 Guns Live EP which are copyrighted or whatever. oh yeah sure you're right. sorry^^
bollard_11 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Another Review from Ultimate-guitar.com Sound: Warning: the first 20 seconds of buzz from overly excited fans may turn you off completely. As much as Green Day's latest live attempt, Awesome As F--k, excels when it comes to song choices and a disc title, the atmosphere almost seems fake. Not "here's some recorded fan orgasms"-fake, but kind of similar to the crowds you see on television during Jonas Brothers and Justin Bieber concerts. The excessive yelps from females (let's hope) makes the aged punk rockers sound as if they're the kings of everything rock n' roll. Recordings of "Know Your Enemy" and "American Idiot" do justice with limitless momentum, but the latter track proves a fault: the material itself seems unorganized as rhythms flail around at different paces when transitioning from verse to chorus. The energy drives the live release yet fails to channel it in all areas; the band seems unmotivated at times ("She", "Going To Pasa") and only really erupts on the more popular radio numbers ("Holiday"). The lackadaisical approach could be attributed to their punk, I don't-care-what-you-think attitude which drips off early Green Day material like "Geek Stink Breath" and "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?". The question is however, does the shtick work for a live record? Not if you plan on spinning the album regularly and not just at a party when the parents are out of town. // 7 Lyrics and Singing: From a lyrical point of view, Awesome As F--k has the ability to keep the entertainment level at a standstill. The sound isn't as emphatic as other live albums, but the tracklisting can grab your attention, introducing you to Green Day's history, highlighting points when they were a group of nobodies, a rising phenomenon and aging rock stars. Taking content from various years is risky. Taking songs with lines like "Cause you know where I'll be found / When I come around," is smart. The disc's structure overshadows Billie Joe Armstrong's ramblings, cursing and odd shouting matches with the audience and so it should. Awesome As F--k doesn't shove a dozen chart-topping singles down your throat; it sedates you in doses, depending on your preference, and concludes with a blast of acoustic anthems that are hard not to know the words to by heart. // 8 Impression: Similar to most early 2000s' fetishes, Green Day has slowly deteriorated over the years. They provided teens with a personal gateway into the world of punk and lyrics that begged to be etched into anything made out of wood. One musical and one mediocre album later, the alt rock giants have been chipped down to veteran musicians who still have that sparkle in their eye to perform. No matter your taste, the release Awesome As F--k shows both sides; a few tracks remind you of those anti-anything-good-for-you times while others slowly enforce why Green Day is slowly fading into an empty black sea. Most importantly, the record highlights a career and though it doesn't excel as a masterpiece collection of recordings, it's a definitive choice for those days where you just want to lose it to the tune of old-school chaos. // 7 - Joshua Khan © 2011
Beathe. Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Wow. I don't know about the US... I'm kinda surprised. How many non-hardcore fans would really buy it??? It will probably be higher up in a couple of weeks. It was sold out at several recordstores. And it's gotten good reviews in our newspapers. They'll probably make the lists in the US too.
pasalaska Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Another Review from Ultimate-guitar.com he lost me at 'Going To Pasa' and funny how many people on here have been saying that's a real highlight, whereas this guy seems to think otherwise. Oh well, can't please everyone. thanks for posting Glen
bollard_11 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 he lost me at 'Going To Pasa' and funny how many people on here have been saying that's a real highlight, whereas this guy seems to think otherwise. Oh well, can't please everyone. thanks for posting Glen No worries Aska This reviewer seems to me to be the type that would have slated Green Day for going mainstream in 2004. Thats the impression I get from reading it.
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I quite like the middle paragraph, but I have to disagree with most of the rest of it, in particular She and Going To Pasalacqua the band sound "unmotivated"? The best "let's go fucking crazy" of the record is during Going To Pasalacqua.
Bastard of 1967 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I also made an edited version of AAF adding extra songs fro the DVD and the "21 guns live ep" everything is from the 21st century breakdown tour. Here is the track list I have 1. 21st CB 2. KYE 3. EJN 4. Holiday 5. Static age (AAF DVD) 6. Viva La Gloria 7. C&V 8. Murder City (live video from Birmingham) 9. Letterbomb 10. BOBD 11. Nice Guys Finish Last (Manchester) 12. Burnout 13. Going to Pasalacqua 14. JAR 15. Holden Caulfield 16. Paper Lanterns 17. 2000 LYA 18. Geek Stink Breath 19. Christie Road 20. Welcome to Paradise (AAF DVD) 21. When I come around 22. My Generation (AAF DVD) 23. FOD (21 Guns EP) 24. Brain Stew (21 Guns EP) 25. Jaded (21 Guns EP) 26. Basket Case (Manchester) 27. She 28. 21 Guns 29. American Eulogy (AAF DVD) 30. American Idiot 31. JOS (AAF DVD) 32. Last night on earth (Zurich live video) 33. Wake me up when September ends 34. Good Riddance Great setlist...and props for inserting LNOE from Zurich. Something needed to fill the gap where When It's Time from last week's Manchester stream was supposed to go! Good pick. I think the only high-quality songs played on tour that are missing now are BTL, AWTW/St. Jimmy, KFAD, and When It's Time. I can't remember if they played One for the Razorbacks on this tour or not. 21 Guns EP - is that available on iTunes? I think I missed that one......gotta buy a copy if it is.
idc Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 he lost me at 'Going To Pasa' he didn#t know whether it was "Going to Pasalacqua" or "Going to Pasalalacqua" se he just left it there
Bastard of 1967 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 I can imagine he's some sort of grumpy middle-aged man who didn't make it as a rock star, and this review is a pathetic attempt at payback, directed to a band who took his dream. I wouldn't even give him that much credit. If you're so fucking biased against a band that you can't write a review without making those biases come across so blatantly and ridiculously obvious, you should just hand off the review to a colleague who doesn't have an axe to grind. Take a look at his "impressions" paragraph at the end and it tell you all you need to know to justify tossing out the review with the rubbish. Maybe we need to start a music critic site dedicated to critiquing the music critics. That'll teach 'em!
Bastard of 1967 Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 News flash: Looks like absoluteradio fixed their Manchester show stream. When It's Time is tacked onto the end, about the last 5 minutes now. Can't record it 'til I get home later this evening....this work laptop's a piece of sh<BEEEEP>t. [Edit] Good-quality Youtube vid of When It's Time from the Manchester show is here: I'm gonna use the audio from the beginning to try to un-BLEEP the BLEEPIN BLEEP out of the parts of the stream where they BLEEPED out Billie. I think with a little compression and amplification blended in with the stream rip in just the right places, it might just come out sounding half-decent!
Lauralovesgreenday Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 Negative eight million points for bringing this back up. Did any of you guys who keep saying, "The whole thing's auto-tuned" even go to a show? There might be some slight pitch correction on a song or two, but 99.99% of the album, Billie Joe sounds like he did live, and I didn't hear any obvious auto-tuning of his live vocals. Seriously, enough. Definitely. It's particularly noticeable on KYE, Holiday and JOS on the AAF DVD. Look, im just saying my opinion. i'm sorry for 'bringing this back up' but as it happens, i didnt read through all two hundred and whatever pages. And yes, I did go to 2 shows, so dont accuse me of being ignorant and he does sound different, in my opinion.
Laura! Posted March 28, 2011 Posted March 28, 2011 At the very end of Paper Lanterns/2000LYA you can hear him announcing another song, can anyone make out what he's saying? I've tried and can't figure it out.
