JHyena86 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 My pre-order just arrived and I'm about halfway through it. Love how it's edited to feel like one show, despite being clips from others. It adds sort of the Green Day connects people all around the world feel. I don't know if it's what they were going for, but I like the idea Breakdown from Wembley and Gloria! From Dallas made this album totally worth it for me. So many good memories.
The Snark Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Finally listened/watched the whole thing! My mom and I listened to the cd three times on our way to and from Chicago today. She really liked it (and I caught her drumming on her legs a few times). I love Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?, When I Come Around and of course She. Hell, I just love live cds and are quite sad that they aren't put out more often. I started tearing up a few times and had to keep blinking cause I didn't want to have to explain myself to my mom. I just finished the DVD and have to say that I love that it's not like BIAB at all. Sure, interviews and bits of backstage action is always a good thing, but I think the lack of both helped make it seem more like a full concert. Did anyone else catch themselves replying to the Hey-ohs like I did? Again, certain songs made me tear up and couldn't stop grinning during the entire thing. A lot of the songs bring back memories...either of concerts or hearing them during different moments in my life. Plus, Mike makes some pretty entertaining faces when he's playing. The sax solo in The Static Age was great. Actually, all of The Static Age was great. And I absolutely LOVE how they put My Generation in there. The only things that really bothered me were the color effects used. It was ok when an entire song was a different color, but not when a second or two of sepia was thrown in. How the image switched from envelope to square screen really bothered me too. It's like the editors figured out how to do something new and just threw the effects in.
MidnightMuffin Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I was sort of expecting some Letterman or Leno TV performances/ interviews for promotion I was looking forward to Billie explaining the meaning of the title to non-super fans
The Snark Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Shit. I just caught the typo in the liner notes...Jaff Matika. Also, can someone tell me what font they used. It kinda looks like my handwriting and I want it!
Krusties Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I got it the day it came out, but I just now decided to sit down and watch it.
Monica. Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 After watching AAF a bunch of times, it never gets old! I finally came to a conclusion that my favorite performance on the DVD would have to be The Static Age! It's just phenomenal to say the least! Especially when Jason F just comes out with the Sax and plays his heart out! I was like this-- The overall performance was hands down amazing!!
saraHsunshine Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Ok so now I have watched the DVD I can fully comment. I love the way that the CD is edited. I think that the way it sounds like one concert speaks to the fact that, no matter where we are as people, they have reached us all with a universal experience. The DVD however, is not really edited that well. I enjoyed watching it, but it is no where near the quality I expected. Sad day. The content of the DVD is wonderful however. I just dislike the editing.
Laura! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I love the part where tre slams the drumstick while playing and it goes flying like twenty feet away and hits Mike, he then turns around like WTF??? When did this happen?
GreenRanger Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 When did this happen? American Eulogy I believe, I know it's towards the end so either that or JOS. My Dad caught it the first time but I didn't see it until the second time, when I lol'd.
Bubbles. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Mine arrived this morning! I ran outside in my pjamas to get it Listening to the audio just now...
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I love the part where tre slams the drumstick while playing and it goes flying like twenty feet away and hits Mike, he then turns around like WTF??? Haha yeah, I liked that too. And Mike reacts a little late too, the first time I saw it I was like "did that drumstick just hit Mike or what?" because it looked like it did but he didn't react, and then he turns around and stuff.
Bubbles. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 It says on the HMV website "A deluxe DMD album will also be available with the extra tracks 'Letterbomb' and 'Christie Road'." ... Has it yet to be released or?
dmg04 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Can't stop listening to Letterbomb. Went to the Chula Vista show with my [ex] girlfriend. Kinda shitty, though. I keep tearing up because i remember how happy she was to see them up close and personal. I do recall us kissing like mad when everything goes silent for the 'eeeeeeeeeeeyyyyooooooooooooooo's... Loving the CD.
Bubbles. Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Can't stop listening to Letterbomb. I'm so confused. Are the bonus tracks only available to download or something?
dmg04 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm so confused. Are the bonus tracks only available to download or something? I think so. I got mine off of Itunes. You can even buy the 'bonus tracks' by themselves for 1.25 each or something like that
Laura! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I'm so confused. Are the bonus tracks only available to download or something? Yeah, you can only get them off of itunes or amazon. But amazon doesn't have Paper Lanterns/2000LYA.
Psycho Britney Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 OMG this AAF package was so much better than I anticipated! The dvd was really cool, though I have to confess I'm not keen on the sepia effect (nitpicking I know!!). There was some really funny moments with the masks and stuff. Cigarettes and Valentines makes me laugh aswell "We're gonna play a new song now...Excepet it ain't that brand new..." or words to those effects! The cd was brillant aswell. I listened to it in my bedroom, laying on my bed with my eyes closed just listening to it. It really captured the atmosphere, and brought back some great memories. I could actually just visualise watching them at a gig and I felt as if I was actually in the crowds at the different shows! *sigh*
saraHsunshine Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Also, I love how random it was for them to put My Generation on there. Awesome
Laura! Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Also, I love how random it was for them to put My Generation on there. Awesome I love that they did though, it's probably my favorite part of the DVD. It's a tie between that and Static Age.
koolkev Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 I love that they did though, it's probably my favorite part of the DVD. It's a tie between that and Static Age. Love the Freese sax solo

Love the Freese sax solo       YES! Static Age rocks!!!!! I also love that Tre acts out 21 Guns at one point.
Sarabeth Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Also, Billie's fake ending to Good Riddance was so funny It would have been awesome and hilarious if he just ended it like that and walked away. Love the Freese sax solo       Me too! that was probably the best part!
digitalgetdown3 Posted March 27, 2011 Posted March 27, 2011 Hey, just a quick question, does anybody know where the bonus tracks were recorded? Letterbomb, Paper Lanterns/2000LYA, Christie Road, Good Riddance. Those four are the only ones I can't seem to find a recorded city from them. Thanks anybody who can help!
