Mar Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'd much rather have American Eulogy and Viva La Gloria instead of another live version of King for a Day. Very true.
Hermione Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 ^ I'd rather have those cool rarer songs too. But I'd rather have King For A Day than of some of the other 'regular' songs like Jesus Of Suburbia. My best memories of Green Day shows are the silliest - watching badly sung versions of Longview, Billie going crazy and breakdancing during St Jimmy or Jaded, hilariousness during KFAD, silly metal medleys before Brain Stew etc. Unfortuately if you list the silliest songs they play, you have a list of the songs that were cut from AAF. Of course all the other songs are amazing too and there's still silliness shown on AAF........but it's less than there is in reality. Why don't they wanna show off the awesome silliness that's one of the best and most unique things about Green Day shows as much as possible instead of minimizing it? I'll never understand You guys have music down there? Seriously, Warner barely promoted it here. I saw two airings of the same commercial, both on Adult Swim, but no radio play of the tracks that I've heard and very little advertising in general. If they put that little into it in the United States, I can't imagine they're promoting it heavily virtually anywhere. Maybe Europe because of how big Green Day is over there, and I'd guess they had some advertising going in Japan because the concerts were filmed there, but in light of recent events, I doubt they're doing much promotion in Japan. Dunno about the rest of Europe but there's ZERO promotion for this in the UK.
solongfromthestars Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 My copy finally arrived, if I'd have known it'd take that long I'd have gone to the shop and bought it but still, it's very cool! It brought back some awesome memories listening to it. I haven't seen it promoted anywhere in England. No ads or radio play or anything
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Dunno about the rest of Europe but there's ZERO promotion for this in the UK. No promotion whatsoever here either. Also apparently it's #9 on the Dutch album chart.
idc Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I'd much rather have American Eulogy and Viva La Gloria instead of another live version of King for a Day. that's what I've always been saying, but people didn't seem to agree ... KFAD is amazing at the concerts and in BIAB, but that's enough we can watch it on BIAB and still saw it during the tour

Whereas KFAD was so much bigger and better on this tour
Katarina. Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Dunno about the rest of Europe but there's ZERO promotion for this in the UK. I haven't seen any kind of promotion for AAF here either..
Kaddi. Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 AAF isn't even in the top 50 album chart in Australia. surprise, surprise. It's on #83 here. Doesn't surprise me, I haven't seen any promotions for it at all. I'd much rather have American Eulogy and Viva La Gloria instead of another live version of King for a Day Same here! To be honest, KFAD started to annoy me a bit. Yes, it's funny and all... but I think it's been done too often. I'm glad it's not on the CD and to be honest, I wish they'd stop playing it live and instead played 2 or 3 other songs like Homecoming, Peacemaker or Misery.

I love the whole King for a Day and shout/medley performances so much cause it's almost like a little show on itself. You know, we're all going crazy, Billie wearing weird hats/glasses, stuff like that. Now, if they stopped doing all that, but like you said, play Homecoming, Peacemaker, Misery, and personally I'd love Letterbomb or Waiting instead, I wouldn't mind it at all. But they should still dress up..
idc Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Yeah but we can watch JOS on BIAB and it's exactly the same on AAF. Whereas KFAD was so much bigger and better on this tour JoS is still very underrated in my opinion I think the major problem is that, to catch all the awesomeness of KFAD's live performance you have to put the hole thing on there. but that would be like 30 minutes, which is 1/3 of the hole dvd xD

Obviously they should've consulted me before they decided on the setlist to make sure the silliness level was acceptable

But they should still dress up.. Yeah, the whole show and dressing-up and all is funny. But I've seen it too many times, I think. I watched BIAB a hundred times and they already did it there. I couldn't wait to see it live and it was awesome for the first two times... but then it got kinda old. It's an awesome idea and a great show, but they've done it for a long time now, I think it's time for something new. I really love how Billie always told little stories during the shows, I think that was a lot more funny than KFAD. Not as entertaining, maybe, but really funny.
November's Storms Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I think its been posted already but currently AAF is #8 on the Irish album charts, and is set to rise a little higher still. I don't know how well its been promoted, I'm not the perfect promotion target cos I rarely listen to radio or watch TV. But it is very visible in music stores that I've been too and I've seen quite a few posters around. With a name like that I can't really see how it wouldn't sell. I've bought Linkin Park and Fall Out Boy live albums in the last few years, even though I'm not massive fans of either.
The Snark Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I finally got it!!! Now I just have to wait until tonight to watch it.
Jacob. Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 You guys have music down there? They don't have any music, they only have Kangaroos. But, today I'm going to watch the DVD after having it since Wednesday.
GreenRanger Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 It seems to be the case that there's always something cut from live albums and DVDs. What would be really cool is if the DVD gave you a wealth of songs to choose from and you could put them in any order you want. Like, there'd be a default concert edited the way it was originally meant to be, but as a bonus they have other songs that you could watch alone or thrown somewhere into the setlist. Of course, you could go even bigger with Longview and KFAD, and make them into mini-films of their own. For Longview, you could have a few versions of the same song with a bunch of the guest vocals cut together in a few big montages. I understand that in a typical concert DVD setting they couldn't do that, but seperate it as a feature on its own and you have all the freedom in the world. Same thing with KFAD, you could put a wide variety of Billie's little cover snippets into it and make it the longest KFAD Spectacular ever. I did kind of miss seeing it. Even on the 2009 tour when I saw them last I noticed how different it was from Bullet's version. Given the album sales, lack of promotion, and some of the more obscure songs being included, it seems like Awesome as Fuck was a love letter to the fans and tourgoers from the very start. If that was the intention, it makes sense to look at everything possibly notable (read: everything that got its own news post on GDA).
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I've spent most of my afternoon making Awesome As Fuck into a giant-ass setlist, all pro recorded and played in the order of one of the gigs, I'm currently on 32 songs I love the album by itself (with the bonus tracks mixed into the set) but as soon as I heard that they had the Nice Guys Finish Last recorded in Manchester I decided to put as many songs as I could find in there to make a full gig's worth.
yourmumgoestocollege Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Havnt seen one peice of promotion in the uk! And the blue ray is for some strange reason at the bottom back shelf of my hmv store?
saraHsunshine Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Today is my first chance to watch the DVD! Yay! As far as the CD goes I am in love with Who Wrote Holden Caulfeild Christie Road is super pretty and Letterbomb is UH-MAZE-ING
koolkev Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Watched the DVD SO damn good!!! Was singing along the whole time, and loved the footage. I think it was nice without as muck backstage, for it's easier to focus on the concert itself. Overall, five-star performance. *much*
AlexaRebel27 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Yeah, that part is hilarious. It's little things like that on the DVD that made me smile even more. Like, how they react during welcome to paradise when the 21 Guns pyro goes off too early. Just great. I couldn't resist. I just like making gifs.. haha omg that icon is awesome thank you
Jacob. Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 I saw an ad for the album on Adult Swim while watching Family Guy last night. Unexpected.
GreenRanger Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 My Dad reported that he saw an ad for the album on TV this morning. Dunno what channel it was but they've been watching cop shows on G4 all day so it might have been there.
AlexaRebel27 Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Haha, yeah I keep laughing at that every time I watch it... He seemed to think it was funny! lol, check out my ava! Katarina on here made it for me.
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted March 26, 2011 Posted March 26, 2011 Someone should count how many times Billie says "right now". He does that an awful lot as well, usually stuck to the end of one of his other gig catch-phrases
