I'm a fan of NOT seeing a near-40 year old man naked on stage.

but hey, that's just me.

it was sarcasm.

Honestly, in this day and age, we should applaud the kids that choose Green Day over stuff like Justin Bieber and other stuff that is in mainstream today.

Totally agreed. Besides, I wasn't even MENSTRUATING when I got into Green Day. I was maybe 12 years old and I thought it was the shit compared to what some of my friends were listening to back in the middle school days. Green Day is not directing their music at any particular age group. The band is simply playing music that they like and if kids like it, then that's fine with them.

Actually, my Intro to Mass Communications textbook mentions one of the reasons for Green Day's particular success is because they were able to appeal to such a diverse group of people over decades.

I started to listen Green Day when I was 10.

I can't find anything wrong with children seeing Green Day.

I just get kind of pissed off when little kids who only know some of Green Day's singles get pulled up on stage.

And long time Green Day fans who know EVERY song sometimes don't get that chance.

At the time, I can't help but to think of how freakishly awesome it would be to be that young and get pulled up on stage by a band you like.

Imagine being in high school and being able to say that you were on stage with green day when you were four?

I really wish green day didn't just pull up young kids. :(

Now this I totally agree with. :(

They don't just pull up young kids . Anyone of any age can get pulled up for Longview, Are We The Waiting, Know Your Enemy, the bit before Jaded, and (recently) 2000 Light Years Away. Little kids only get East Jesus Nowhere. And sometimes they even bring up older people for that :P

I think its good that Green Day are appealing to youngsters and getting the youngsters interested in rock music which means in turn they are being protected from the Justin Beibers and Jason Derulo's of this world. :D

As has been said previously Green Day are allowing kids to make choices and get into other rock bands, they may not have a clue what the lyrics mean, (although some young kids will be fully aware as to what Green Day are trying to convey with their lyrics), they will get them in future years. With bringing the kids up on stage it gives the young people who go to the show who are lucky enough to be pulled up, a chance to meet their idols and a memory they will never forget.

I don't think anything at all needs to be changed. The way Green Day have got their live show set up is perfect it has got the perfect mix of crowd involvment, its not too over the top, just right :). I just hope they keep pulling up people to sing Longview, thats one definite part of the show that has to be kept. :)

"Family-friendly pop rock" might be good for the band it is just that I hate it being called that and it is the kids that influence those kind of statements.

I know other parents on the forum may and probably will have different opinions, but my 3-year-old daughter isn't going to hear a PEEP of "Horseshoes & Handgrenades" in the house, car, etc. until at least she starts hearing F-bombs dropped in public, and can understand why "we don't use those words around the house, sweetie." Billie writes potent, powerful lyrics occasionally riddled with language that my wife and I both feel is fine for older teens and adults but just isn't appropriate for tweens or younger -- and some of them, Billie brings up on stage at the shows. It's all up to the individual choices of the parents, but we don't want our daughter to get the kind of exposure to swear words and sexual innuendo that she'd get at a Green Day concert til she's much older -- and that's despite the fact that we personally LOVE their shows and have had a blast at every single one we've been to.

Great show, yes. Evolving, maturing band, yes. Can play anything they put their minds to, yes. While bringing the house down and giving the fans an awesome time, absolutely. But if the shows were a movie, they'd get a rating of PG-13 to R and unless "family" means parents bringing their mid-to-older teenagers, I don't think "family friendly" is the right term to use to describe them.

A rock concert with constant F-bombs, and a 38 year old man humping the floor and showing his ass to everyone is NOT family friendly.

I agree with everything said before, I just wanted to say that I got my cousin who was 10 at the time into Green Day, so she downloaded the lyrics to Holiday and my aunt saw them and told me that I couldn't show my cousin that kind of things, that she should be listening to Jonas Brothers and that kind of stuff. I really didn't know what to reply. But I'm proud that she likes some good bands now, regardless of what her mother thinks about it.

I was more pissed off when some drunk guy who, yeah, did know Longview got up on stage at Camden and totally failed it when Billie gave him the mic. Guy was so lit he could barely stagger, he was off-key, off-beat, and left us all going "what the f*ck is this, the Gong Show"? It's not the age, it's not the knowledge of the back catalog, it's how much the people who are there are actually enjoying being there, focusing on the band and feeding them their energy -- so they can shoot it right back at us and give us all a good time.

Exactly. people need to stop thinking green day is turning into a kids band just because kids listen to it. In reality kids are not suppose to listen to all of this. But the kids choose to. They rebel against what their parents have taught them about not listening to songs like that. and luckily some parents go easy on it. But even on the goddamn Green Day albums it says "Explicit." and it says that parents should hear it first. They put that for a certain reason you know. So since little kids listen to it, then does that mean that all the music from the rappers that talk about sex, gangs and shit like that is family friendly? because I sure as hell see so many little kids listening to that crap as well as their parents.

I too had a concert experience when a drunk person got pulled up for Longview.

She could barely even walk straight and screwed up all of the lyrics.

You explained this perfectly!

I don't think that Green Day need to change at all. I don't think that they're aiming at the kids at all, what with all the swearing that goes on in their songs and live shows. I am personally glad to know that there are at least some kids in this world who aren't listening to Justin Bieber and The Jonas Brothers. I got into Green Day when I was 9, and I really have them to thank for saving me from all of that bullshit.

Hah, they are not in a children phase. Just because kids go to the show doesn't mean Green Day aim their material at them. I also do not believe for a second that the majority of their audience (at shows) are for people 12 and under.

Nope. Don't see a reason for it to be closed. When people don't want to talk about it, it'll fall off the first page.

Must be very embarrassing for the OP though.

well, the next album will come out in like 6 years, if they keep with the pattern, so they need to get kids so they will be teens in the future!

As it should be.
