well this is my first post... And the first thread I have read here. But I skimmed through what people said, and just like they have said too, I think they are just trying to get the message across that people aren't living in the moment right then and there, instead they are talking, er excuse me, texting someone who isn't even there, and it's especially not something you should really do if you're, oh say hanging out with someone else, or at a concert! a green day one especially! Cause you will miss out on that moment that you could have made really awesome, or that person you were hanging out with. I'm sure they don't mean ban it or anything, I think they are just saying that maybe instead of just putting all your effort into some text conversation, or sitting around playing video games ALL day, or watching tv all day you should make some shit happen. Or something around those lines. That is what I take it as.

I know! I always feel like its a hassle and that it takes away from the actual memory and stuff from the concert. Maybe I will snap a few pictures but thats about it, I'm too busy jumping around and singing anyway

Well if they didn't like technology, Billie wouldn't use twitter.

When they say that at concerts, it's because they want everyone to enjoy the experience, not text about it, or tweet about it every second, and not focus on the show. I would certainly try to take some pictures, but I woulndn't have a camera on my face constantly taking pictures cause then I would miss a lot of things.

and well, in my case, I could never live without technology! I love both my computers and my cellphone too much. And I am always amazed by all the things we are now able to do, if you cannot see the beauty of technology, there's something wrong with you.

I sound like such a nerd lol

Long story short, they are worried that we will all end up like Wall-E space people =)

About saying it at the concerts, It's just so people have lot's fun, without having anything else distracting, and taking away the greatness of the moment.

In my personal opinion, I agree with all that. BUT, I still love how pictures are such a good way to keep a memory with you, It always makes me remember moments, that if I didn't have captured, would have lost. It's just awesome to have those reminders..

Also, I don't know what I would do with myself without internet =0 I'm sure I wouldn't even be a Green Day fan.

Ha. when i was at a concert, my cell phone and camera was sitting in my bag by my feet. It nearly got stepped on,

and at that point i didn't give a fuck 'cause i was freaking out so much

Everyone's said it better already but yeah, I don't think it's about them being anti technology, after all they fully ultilize modern technology themselves. But there's good and bad sides to everything and technology is no exception. By making statements like that they provoke people to think about technology and to be wary of the potential bad sides it has, like with so many of their lyrics they urge people to think critically about it. They're not condemning all technology - just criticizing a particular aspect of it they dislike.

But the criticizism isn't just whinging, it's done in a positive, inspiring way. It's not just "fuck technology", it's "fuck technology, let's enjoy this experience together right now!". I like it :D

Billie just doesn't like getting his picture taken when he's sweaty and his hair starts to frizz up. Don't you think there's a reason they only let the people with press passes photograph for the first two songs?

obviously modern technology has had a huge impact on green day's and usually every artist out there, but i think he means that instead of spending your life on a computer, and enjoying life. billie joe's just watching out for his fans, y'know, to help some of them open their eyes and see the world around them. he just wants to help his fans be glad to live. btw they probably aren't anti-technology since they use twitter lol.

If I was working my ass off to put on an awesome show for someone, I wouldn't want them looking at their phone. :ninja: Personally, I think it's nice of him to suggest that we just be a part of the show. I'm really glad that the only time I took out my phone during the show was to call my mom (yeah....) during WMUWSE because it's her favorite song. Other than that, I was just living.

I wouldn't want to go to a concert, stand against the barrier, to see the whole show through my cellphone camera. No way.

I honestly don't get how people do that. But at the same time, I am grateful for those people, because I get to enjoy the show without worrying about getting it on video, AND I get to download videos and pictures other people took once I am back home :P

When he said this at the Az concert, i'm fairly sure he also mentioned no Youtube

I just thought that was like a hint to not put videos of the concert on there

im totally for it...based on the his meaning....basically who gives a fuck about taping and recording the show.......when i saw them at shoreline i only took one picture and it was before the show even started, I just needed a pick of the stage to post it here....

but besides that, when I go to a show I go to rock out and to literally jump around and go fucking insane...how can you possibly enjoy the show if you've got a camera or iphone stuck out in front of you the entire time? .....

im amazed....I went to the shoreline show and everyone in my area was amazingly boring and glued down.....no jumping, no rocking out, no fun.........I was probably the only one in my area that was moving lol......and everyone was to busy filming the damn thing and snappin shots....unbelievable....

I personally find Billie a bit of a hypocrite for giving his big technology-bashing speech before TSA.

The man uses TWITTER, for fucks sake.

i think he meant only in the concert cause no way someone can live without computer cellphones i think you know that

i cant live without GDC :ninja:

It probably has had an impact to a very large extent... but if I was performing a show I wouldn't want people staring at their god damn cellphone 1/2 the show.

I think he basically means that technology has taken over the world. And what a different place the world would without it all.

I'd drop all of those items just to be at a Green Day concert ;)

I think they pretty much just frown upon the way technology practically takes over some peoples lives. Like when they can't be away from the computer for more than 10 minutes....but then again, I'd be worried about someone like that to....

But, as for the concert, I think they pretty much mean to enjoy what is going on then, instead of trying to take pictures and whatnot during the show

I don't think he's really all anti-technology. After all...he's a twitter slut. ;)

I think it's just the way people are so obsessed with technology now, which I agree with. He wants people to enjoy the show, not watch it through a camera while tweeting "BJ just told me to put my phone away."

I wish people would turn off their computers, go outside, talk to people, touch people, lick people, enjoy each other's company and smell each other on the rump.

I'd love to watch Billie Joe tweeting. I can imagine it would be quite funny.

I can live without others except computers and internet.
