armatage Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 yes I think so too cause it wouldn't be a great album cause they made American Idiot cause Cigarettes and Valentines wasn't so good well maybe not only that. after all, it's a NEW album, not 'let's put out some old material' like Shenanigans was. I doubt that Green Day would put out anything like Shenanigans soon.
Hermione Posted September 22, 2010 Posted September 22, 2010 I've made myself a CD of all the most recent Green Day things like this and the soundcheck songs etc. Love listening to this song the most! Can't get enough of it.
Cym Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 I was so psyched because they played this at our show in Phoenix, in both the actual set and during the soundcheck! We were standing outside the gates waiting for them to open, and we heard the chorus coming through. I was curious as to what it was and my sister got this ecstatic look on her face and said "Cigarettes and Valentines!" I had never really heard it before, and honestly it sounded really good, it's keeping with their whole "unreleased love ballads" theme they've got going on so far ^_^... they played it during our show too, and though I felt like a tool for not knowing the words, I still cheered for them as loud as I could because it was still a really great song to hear live.
Heather! Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 Dear lord, my heart skips a beat just thinking of the Denver show. When he said, "we're going to play a new song" my mind immediately jumped to Stay the Night or Dreamcatcher, and I could not believe it when he said it was called "Cigarettes and Valentines." and wow, it's such a great tune too :')

I was so stunned I didn't even catch much of it the first time they played. I'm convinced they played it twice just for me.

I (sort of) came to my senses as soon as he said, "let's play it again!" but it was still so incredible.
Desensitized09 Posted September 23, 2010 Posted September 23, 2010 This whole thing is just weird for me... I've heard a few rumors about the whole "stolen album" thing. Also, when it was first "stolen", they wanted to re-record the album, but they said that it "wouldn't be the same." Does this mean they've changed their minds? If they're just going to release the "stolen album" then it shouldn't be too much time until the new album is released! I love the song though. Good stuff!

My theory is that they decided to scrap what they'd recorded and started over, resulting in American Idiot. Nothing was really stolen. So they essentially have an entire album of material that they've been keeping from us

Shame tho that they kept C&V hidden from us for so long, that and TMTS I think are two of the best songs from their before-AI creative efforts. And let's not talk about When It's Time hanging out there for 15 *years* give or take before they finally let that one out of the bag.

I really hope we'll get a studio version of C&V sometime soon--of course the live version is brilliant too!

Yeah, but an artist has the right to both quality control and timing. When It's Time - I feel like that's such a personal song, something that was just between two people and a place of the heart, and it's beautiful to me that it was kept 'secret' for so long.

Agreed. I'm just glad that (apparently?) Michael Mayer talked Billie into letting him have it for the show -- heck, I'd have been happy just for that taste of it alone. But then the whole band tracked it for the cast album..... Sweet and special in all three respects if you ask me -- as a private, secret expression just between Billie and Adie for so so long, then as a way for MM to illustrate Johnny's internal conflicts, and then as it came out in the studio version. I have yet to hear Billie's voice sound more wonderful than it does on that song.
Cym Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 ^ I agree, I absolutely love that song. While it is extremely personal, I like having this insight into his character; the insecurities and outright devotion he feels for her. It's just lovely.
Zero. Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 Love this song, it is awesome, I really wish I was at the Denver show to see it live!
Rock Tie Posted September 24, 2010 Posted September 24, 2010 this song so nice ... "Let us paralyze this moment till it dies" <3 i want to hear original version of the song

murdercitykid Posted September 25, 2010 Posted September 25, 2010 This maybe sounds sick, but i actually think that the "lost" CV album exist, the only thing is that they didn't wanted to release it. That's what I think, Oh, hope you understand. Sorry for my very bad English.

foxboro1234 Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 So is this the never ending song of the "week?"
Daughter.of.Rage.and.Love Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 It's Song Of The Whenever J'net Comes Back (I don't mean anything bad by that )
J'net Posted September 29, 2010 Author Posted September 29, 2010 It's Song Of The Whenever J'net Comes Back (I don't mean anything bad by that ) Hahaha - sorry! So much travel ... so much TRYING to travel (this week) and recording podcast (tonight). So much encouragement to procrastinate (someone - I think it was Bastard_of_1967, whom I affectionately call "bastard," ... at least, he thinks it's affectionate ... said this should be the song of the month, and I took that literally). But seriously, I'm working on a new one right now. It'll be posted later tonight or early tomorrow . It's special .
